I agree with you somewhat, case in point... When it came out last year that Sabrina Chen is playing Shi Mei, she was bashed on social media. Meatbun just placated the fans that the script is following the novel as much as they can. They can mitigate the damage if they minimized her role as Shi Mei like in the novel, where Hua Binan plays the bigger role with no excessive interaction.

True, in the most strict sense of the word, 'rebirth' is a misnomer. In Douluo Continent, they remove the reincarnated aspect and I ended only watching episode 1, I'm really disappointed. From messing with the plot as well as not seeing Xiao Zhan falling off a cliff again, that's practically iconic for him!!! Come to think of it, Wei Wuxian dying from falling off a cliff is probably inspired by Douluo Continent. We all know Wei Wuxian died from the most excruciating way from being eaten alive by his own zombie hoard in the novel. But gore is not gonna pass the censorship. But they easily accepted him being reborn on another body! If we have to be technical about it, that's the very epitome of 'rebirth/reincarnation' to me, but since MXTX called it possession, then possession it will be... If you get my drift??? If they will change the name of the technique in immortality, it would probably also pass censorship.

If we have to be technical about it... It's not actually rebirth??? I don't know why reviving Chu Wanning is called forbidden rebirth technique. All he did is fix the body and attached the soul??? He didn't reincarnated or anything. Mo Ran:s circumstances is also far from rebirth. Mo Ran just ASSUMED it was. When in truth it's parrallel world travel. (Hopefully there's no ban in parrallel world travel) Chu Wanning travelled the parallel world during the first year Mo Ran was first infected. Chu Wanning chose that time because as time passes, the flower became stronger and more good memories and conscience gets consumed. As an unexpected side effect though, he also got the memories of Mo Ran 0.5. it's NOT rebirth because heck, on the later chapters... They even confront each other face to face, they're clearly two separate people. Mo Ran just made assumption that he was actually 0.5, when in truth, he just got some memories.

Hua Binan is older by a decade or so than Shi Mei, but they look the same. He wanted to plant that flower to Wanning because he's got the potential. He needs a strong cultivator who can master the forbidden techniques. And as a bonus, Chu Wanning would be I love/obsessed with him too. Just like Mo Ran is. The difference is that unlike with Mo Ran, Shi Mei is disgusted by the necessity of pretending to hold some affections to Mo Ran to reinforced his obsession. The thing is, when Mo Ran begged him to plant the flower to him instead, he made a very compelling argument. Yes, the flower can magnify hatred and negative thoughts 10 times, but are they even sure that Chu Wanning being the generally good person that he is actually hold even a sliver of hatred to magnify in the first place??? The it will be a waste. He only have one flower and one chance and if it fails, there's nothing he can do.
