Nah I just need those explanations in the screen. So everything would make sense. We still can't ignore the most basic things even though this drama is not realistic enough to begin with.

I think the original ending was so tragic. So many death codes in everywhere. XH was surrounded by enemies alone. His eyes were telling everything that he would not comeback alive. Also the tree that they planted before was very HUGE in the last scene. It means XFF is waiting XH in her whole life for years. The tree is like the story's metric for time/years.
From the reddit that I read, the last scene is like XH was saying goodbye to XFF in the dream, or it was the scene of their afterlife. The director made it open ending and let viewers intrepreted the ending themselves.
But they suddenly got scared that people will murder them online so they shot the extra ep to please the CP fans. Maybe they didn't expect the drama will be a big hit so they wanna play with the open ending at beginning.

Well, what I asked above is the most basic of logical thing. I still can turn my brain off when XFF crawled her way up after she was buried alive. But how about noble people who can't recognize an official's daughter that lived in capital?
I haven't watched ep 1 fully when I asked this question. Because i was so curious about this thing so I asked them first. It's a serious major plot hole if there is no explanation why people failed to recognize her identity as XFF, Xue family's daughter.

If that WAR happened in main episodes, then i am sure he died in the battle. I guess the production team prepared the extra ep for certain fans who just wanted happy ending. So they released the alternate version for instant happy ending. Because there was no solution after the war scene. How did he come back alive? We can't see the process into the happy ending they showed in the extra ep.

Lol yeah i guess. But for My Journey to You I also love Zhang Linghe as Gong Zi Yu. So basically Cheng Lei didn't steal the spotlight for me. I just like them equally. They are different character in nature. GZY for warm person, GSJ for cold person. Hehe.
I have another question. XFF disguised herself as Jiang Li. But they all lived in the same dynasty and it was in capital setting. Then she will be recognized by many ppl soon then? Because she was known as the daughter of Duke Xue. Especially she met her husband in the capital as Jiang Li.
It was different with Princess Wei Young who take over noble aristocrat daughter identity for revenge her fallen kingdom. So basically she was from another kingdom so people won't be easy to recognize her true identity immediately (the story setting when China was divided into several kingdoms). But for The Double, I am sure the setting was in the same one united dynasty like Song Dynasty (from the hairstyle, costumes, buildings, etc).
I watched everything from that talented writer Zhao Lin. He wrote his own original screenplay for short dramas. I watched them all except provoke 🤣 not yet bcs it's more like a love affair story in republican era. But ppl said it's so damn good. And yeah Zhao Yi Qin again as ML. He is the current favourite of the writer i guess. From provoke, butterflied lover until Hard to find.
Oh have you watched Story of Kunning Palace? Bcs i will describe more of Xie Wei personality for comparison. But from your watchlist, I can tell that you prefer to watch green flag ML than red walking flag ML like Xie Wei or Murong Jin 😁
I think i will love the Murong Jin in the novel also. Basically I love cruel crazy cold ML (but must handsome) 🤣
For drama version? Yes. Xie Wei (Zhang Ling He) drama version is also a lighter version than novel darker version. Even someone from novel page said :
"Xie Wei is a true psychopath and also has yandere tendencies towards FL."
"Because Xie Wei is actually a lot darker. The drama tenderised him quite a bit."
Maybe the drama ver will justified more Murong Jin's behaviour so he will get more audience sympathy. Otherwise, viewers will hate his character (well, not everyone is like me who loves dark ML) then the drama would be in danger. However, anti-hero ML is a challenge for every production + actor. But i LOVE this kind of ML. Cruel, crazy, cold, handsome but miserable. Oh yes.
I also love Gong Shang Jue (Ryan Cheng) from My Journey To You even though he is a SML in that drama. He is obviously darker than ML and his love story is full of cruel schemes and bittersweet feeling.
Helian Xi from "Hard to Find" (Zhao Yi Qin from Butterflied Lover) is also a dark character. He can be so crazily cruel and vengeful to his woman in the story. But after the misunderstanding was cleared, he became more tender and gentle towards his wife. And yeah their cruel love story is a royal feast to me 🤣
