Title Glory Spoiler
First, the beginning was already confusing as hell. But that't sort of part of Cdrama beginnings. Just, to me,…
My major issue is that most of the plot seems disjointed and not smooth, at times the changes in his personality or his priorities were so sudden, that it seemed to me as if they had cut out some scenes in the editing process. For example, as I mentioned, he decided to approach Shanbao because he assumed she would know about his prior identity. But after that he never again mentioned anything (or thought about) regarding his real identity - I watched up until around ep 13 or sth. To me, that seemed like a plot hole or as if they had cut out a few scenes. Because it made little sense as to why he was suddenly more interested in marrying her than finding out who he really is. Even if it was because he fell in love, he'd still at least wonder about who he used to be. It's just badly written in my opinion.

As to the amnesia trope, it's been done hundreds of times and definitely has been done MUCH better than here. Again, the jump from him being naive and a bit "childlike" to being cunning was too sudden and disjointed, and it felt like they had cut out some build up scenes. One good example of a well done amnesia trope was Shadow Love. There we had a very cunning character who becomes very naive once he loses his memory, but then gradually regains his original personality. The point being it was gradual and not from one scene to the other. In the end, when he regains his original personality, he turns back into the cunning person and again slowly regains his memory from the time when he had lost it, and it was a smooth process and not so sudden as in Glory. It just made much more sense.

ANother example of sudden changes in Fushengs behavior that were utterly confusing: when Shanbao chooses the He guy to marry, Fusheng is extremely upset about it. But in the next scene, he's fine and reacts normally to Shanbao without any tension. To me, it felt like a very sudden and weird change because he had been really upset but next thing we saw was that he simply calmed down and accepted that she had chosen the other guy.

And about his attitude issues, to me it just feels very illogical because since the Rong family has such a high status and no one knows that Fusheng is an official, they only know he's a stable boy without memories, it would be highly inapropriate for him to mingle in the Rong business and give advice or say his opinion. They were from a completely different social class after all. To make this more logical, they should've written something in the storyline to make it seem less weird, for example, if Shanbao had officially hired him as her personal guard or her steward or whatever, something that gave him more authority in the household. But she never did, he was simply a staff member for her cousin without a real function - but for some reason, he received an assistant too ? LMAO. So it just seemed all pretty messy and illogical. And that's also why I found Shanbao at times a bit "stupid" with regards to Fusheng because she just let him do things the way he wanted to, even though he had no grounds to do them. ANd that makes no sense for a character as smart and as strict as her.

Okay, so I know the Rong family has to treat Yang Ding Chen and He Xing Ming with a level of respect because they're…
the writing is absolutely awful. I've watched so many Cdramas where I had to overlook some illogical plot holes here and there, and I'd say I'm pretty tolerant to that at this point. But Glory is over the top... the writing went all over the place, making no sense at all. Not only what you mentioned with the villains acting out in a way that would get them jailed in any other Cdrama, also the ML being a servant but at the same time bossing these "esteemed guests" around and acting out with the FL without any reprimanding-- it makes no sense. In serious period dramas, servants weren't even allowed to look the lords and ladys in the face! Let alone talk back...

oh no :( I'm really considering dropping it...maybe if the chemistry between them were stronger but with all the inconsistency and illogical plot, it just doesn't really convince me at all :(

How much of a comedy is it? I'm not really into Chinese comedy all that much, so I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it. But I really like Cheng Lei

First, the beginning was already confusing as hell. But that't sort of part of Cdrama beginnings. Just, to me, it seemed like, during the scene where Shanbao and Jianlai look at each other for the first time, they already knew each other. So it was misleading, at least to me as audience.
But the most confusing part to me is later on, when he's Fusheng. To me, his personality seemed to switch from one moment on - he seemed completely lost and naive, and then all of a sudden he became super cunning. I was like - huh? Did I miss something?
Then, Shanbao almost immediately seemed to be interested in him. There was no real explanation as to why she was into him. For such a smart person, I found that super lack luster. I imagined that she would fall for him because of him being smart or a good match to her - but it seemed like she simply found him good-looking and was immediately drawn to him..kinda boring ..
Then it gets more confusing once she assigns Fusheng to be the steward or idk assistant of that cousin. All of a sudden, Fusheng is always taking part in all activities of the "husband candidates" and if you look at all the other candidates, NO ONE has a steward by his side. Just the cousin. That was so obviously done, so that the main lead could be there. Like..even during the tea picking, no one had an assistant, only the cousin. That was so irritating.
Then, people start talking about Shanbao being into Fusheng and it's basically shown that it would be a scandal if she were to be with him, since she is basically like a deity and in such a high position socially, whereas he's just some worker. They made it sound as if it were ridiculous to even imagine that - and quite frankly, given the times, it was. But then, all of a sudden, he simply becomes one of the official candidates to be her husband during the tea ceremony in episode 10. And nobody bats an eye. Nobody mentions anything about it being scandalous. Like, what's this steward doing there?? No one says anything. Huh? That was so confusing. Did they edit out a bunch of scenes??
Also, Fusheng's personality is also so inconsistent and weird, I can't understand his motivations and why he acts the way he acts. At first, after his accident, he seemed like an innocent puppy type of guy. Then he became somewhat suspicious of Shanbao and wanted to know who he really was. Then he becomes cunning and starts scheming to get close to her. All of a sudden, he doesn't even care about his real identity anymore and is only interested in becoming Shanbao's husband. Like...am I to believe he simply gave up about his previous identity and just wants to marry Shanbao? If the plot would've at least explained some of his changes, but they didn't.
Honestly, it's really confusing.
And I also don't even know if I like Fusheng's attitude. To be honest, I find him really entitled. He's an employee but he acts as if he was already married to Shanbao, bossing around even the other husband candidates. He's always way out of line with Shanbao as well. It comes across as really arrogant, especially considering that he was working as a stable staff at first. Like, many times I'm thinking "who does he think he is???" when I see his scenes. And on that note, I also feel like for such a smart girl, Shanbao acts way too stupid with Fusheng. She lets him get away with everything, it's really pissing me off. I wish she would put him in his place but she just allows him to act out...
Anyways, I'm still only at Ep 10, maybe some of these things gets explained later on but to me it just seems really illogical and confusing right now..

Title Love in the Clouds Spoiler
maybe this drama won't be the right fit for you - FL and ML are grey characters, they aren't your typical perfect…
yep she doesn't come clean with him, it's basically him who figures it out on his own. that's why i said maybe this drama just isn't the right one for you because if a lying FL will annoy you, i think this won't be your cup of tea. the thing is that this FL has a more complex personality and story arc, so her actions won't make sense if we just think about what we would do in the same situation, but we should think about why she acts the way she does. 1) she doesn't come clean with him once she has that opportunity bc she's from an enemy realm. in the future episodes it becomes more clear why this is such a big deal, but basically she's in enemy territory. so telling him who she really is and that she fooled everyone about her gender is risky, not only for her but also to her realm who could be blamed. there's the whole thing about fairies not being allowed to have spiritual veins and stuff, so it's not so simple to admit to him who she is. 2) she has trust issues, just like him. she grew up being seen as only valuable when she won the tournament and she wasn't allowed to make mistakes. the first time she makes a mistake/loses the tournament, she gets exiled by her own mother. so the way she grew up would make it hard for her to believe that this guy who she recently met would be understanding and kind towards her once she admits to doing something wrong. but she feels extremely guilty for doing what she does.
so, while we might not have lied to him, the FL has a different background and reasons to lying. so for people who enjoy complex characters who aren't always lead by logic but by a mix of different things, this drama is interesting. it's about two people with a lot of trauma who slowly learn how to trust and love but also be loved. but in case someone doesn't enjoy this type of dynamic between the leads, it's maybe not the right drama for them.

Ok. Like a lot viewers who wanted to scream at FL about lying constantly. Yeah it’s frustrating!!!Currently…
In what world is it illogical for a woman to be safe in risky situations? It'd be illogical to tell a guy you just recently met about your biggest secret, one that not even people in your hometown know about and that could bring danger to yourself and your family by exposing the truth to a dude you just met and who has an ambiguos personality....
Sometimes I wonder why some Cdrama-watchers can have such little interpretation skills? It seems like if a female character is just a bit complex, you dismiss it as frustrating or whatever. There are also grey characters, imperfect characters, and complexity in characters. I for my part am glad that Cdrama doesn't include only goodie-perfect-flawless-heroines who act as little angels all the time...

you summed it up perfectly! I fully agree, I think the costumes and makeup reflected their different phases so well! I was really impressed by all the details in this production.

Also, one of the reasons JBZ looks "less good" when he's wearing the caramel colored clothing as Crown Prince is because he's 1) sick and almost dying 2) deeply depressed and has given up on life. They even stopped putting color on his lips in some scenes and he looks much more pale during that part. It was deliberate because it wouldn't make sense if he was all glowy and perfect-looking when he's supposed to be battling the Heavenly Grief and be sad because he divorced the love of his life and has to deal with the fact that almost everyone in his life abandoned him :/ poor JBZ

maybe this drama won't be the right fit for you - FL and ML are grey characters, they aren't your typical perfect heroes and they do lie and scheme a lot, pretend to love the other until they aren't pretending anymore but there's a lot of lies involved (from both sides). The way they both learn to trust and open up to each other despite their past is exactly the charm of the story...
