I've been rewatching this drama way too many times but there's one thing that I still don't really understand - when Wangyan "sealed" her memories in that necklace, did she also forget them? If so, then there's a serious plot hole in the first episodes.

My issue with him is that the villain of the story, Li Lun, basically only became a villain bc ZYZ dropped him as a friend after Li Lun became enraged with humans for the way they treated demons. And tbh - not to be devil's advocate here - but Li Lun was right, that scene with the demons in a cage was really terrible and I could understand why Li Lun got mad. I feel like this whole mess with Li Lun could've been easily cleared if ZYZ had had one normal conversation with Li Lun???
Instead, ZYZ seems like a "pick me girl/demon", he's fixated on getting approval by humans and people who hate demons. Once he gets approval from them, he's happy....I found it weird how sort of...happy he got once Zhou Yichen become a demon...??? The way he was smiling when Zhou Yichen told him "now I understand you"...idk it just felt weird to me how they filmed this scene bc it gave me strange vibes. If my friend had to endure the same traumatic experience of knowing that they killed someone while in a trance, I'd be distraught, not happy or relieved.
And like ZYZ wants to be understood by Zhou Yichen just like Li Lun wants to be understood. It was also quite ironic how these two dialogues happened in the same episode; Li Lun asking Zhou if he understood him now and Zhou saying no and I won't ever understand you and then next scene he's telling ZYZ that he understands him and ZYZ smiles happily. So basically, if someone gave Li Lun a little bit of empathy he would cease to be the villain, since he just wants to be understood. At least that's how I see it.
The most interesting character in terms of character development is Zhou Yichen so far. But I'm really rooting for Li Lun to find some peace, I feel bad for him. Saddest villain ever tbh...

I also felt that Li Lun and Zhou Yichen's scene had much more emotional depth than ZYZ's scene with Zhou Yichen, because Zhou Yichen, even though he doesn't agree with Li Lun, still somehow empathized with him more than ZYZ seems to do with his former friend. Which brings me back to my point why ZYZ is in my opinion kind of unlikeable at this point. Idk what else will be revealed or will happen in the next episodes, but his pick me girl attitude towards humans is kinda irritating lol sorry rant over

Unpopular opinion but honestly the most annoying character for me is Zhao Yuan Zhou. Don't come for me, I'm a fan of HMH, it's nothing to do with the actor but with the way the character was written. I'm at ep 26.

I'm watching FoF after having dropped it a few times and I was wondering why I have a hard time connecting with this drama, even though I love ALL of the actors (I love HMH, TJR and CDL) and the plot is actually interesting.
I've come to the conclusion that my main issue is the lack of chemistry between CDL and both HMH and TJR :/ And I'm saying this as someone who really loves them, not as a "hater" or sth. I just noticed that CDL's character has "sibling chemistry" with both HMH and TJR and this made the plot less angsty than it could have been (in regards to the FL/ML storyline). If CDL had stronger romantic chemistry with both the male leads, their rivalry and conflict would've been at higher stakes and I feel like I'd have connected much better with it.
But the way it is, the very appealing sounding angsty storyline of "childhood sweethearts vs. demon lover, both want to be with her and their rivalry turns into brotherhood" feels sort of flat to me, and the brotherhood/bromance between the two male leads feels much more interesting than the FL-storyline. And I think this is because of the lack of chemistry with the actress - CDL is a great actress, I loved her in Veil of Shadows and she had very good chemistry there with the ML. But this time, I feel that even though HMH's acting is amazing and I love his character, I don't feel any romantic chemistry between them, there are no sparks you know? It's like watching two platonic friends who aren't attracted to each other.
As for TJR and CDL, I feel like with him it does come across as a much younger guy who has an unreciprocated superficial crush on a woman who doesn't really know him. They don't feel like people who have known each other since childhood or have any sort of history between each other. Her vibe towards him feels more like a much older person, big sister or sth. There's no tension there, or maybe a little but only from Zhuo's side...
So basically, I'm watching it only for HMH and TJR but I feel like this could've been so much better if the FL had stronger chemistry with both lead actors :(((

I see your point but I don't think this ending is an easy happy ending - it leaves room for a lot of interpretation. Both JL and LWY might be dead and meeting in the afterlife; OR they might have reincarnated and meet in their next life. It's more of an open ending where viewers can imagine what happened or what could happen in the future. And in comparison to other Cdramas and esp from this same screenwriter, the ending wrapped up better than expected. But I know lots of people dislike open endings

The part when Puppet Ji Ling finds out that he's a puppet and he talks to Real Ji Ling and he asks him "Did you create me so you could use me as a marionette or did you create me to live out in the world in your place?"
and Real-Ji Ling replies: "Does it matter?"
and Puppet Ji Ling says, crying: "It does matter, because I need to know why I exist. If I exist to live out there it means I'm my own unique self".
As I rewatched I realized this dialogue is basically what Real-Ji Ling would say to the Real Dragon Deity 🥲Because Real Ji Ling, in his darkest moments, came to this same conclusion: "I only exist to be a place holder for the Dragon Deity. I'm not able to be my own person" and that's why he created his own little puppet. It's like Puppet Ji Ling is living through the same thing younger Ji Ling went through once he got mature enough to realize the situation he was in.
And in his darker moments he might have questioned if the Dragon Deity was only using him as a marionette (I mean, to be honest, he was..but he felt bad about it and it wasn't like he planned this...).
So now his own puppet is living the same painful realization that he experienced. And this is part of the reason why Ji Ling decided to not create another Puppet Ji Ling and to step out into the world on his own - because once Puppet Ji Ling realized that he was only a puppet, he wouldn't be Ji Ling's innocent younger self anymore. He would become the current Ji Ling, who is cold and resigned to his fate. So he stops making his puppet to spare himself and the puppet from seeing his own lonely self in front of him. (And the other reason was because he wanted to be with Lu Wuyi himself...he can't fool us lol)

Anyways, I found that part so sad :( especially if you think about the fact that he was basically talking to his own younger self :( he was so lonely and the only way to cope was to create a little happy puppet of himself and now his puppet was aware how sad his existence is :( this drama is so sad (i love it)

I'm rewatching for the third time and I noticed something only during the 2nd rewatch that I found so sad 🥲 I need to share with you guys - did you notice it too? See below bc spoiler:

girl you dropped the drama exactly when it was about to really start and become good. The real story starts on episode 6. I dropped it too at first, so I know what you mean.
The two FLs are acting as characters in the first 5 episodes and after that they act less that slow-mo way. They did that bc they're acting as coquette/seductive fox demons who are lying and it's done that way so the viewer understands that they're lying and manipulating. From ep 6 things change and the real characters are introduced.

These characters were all heavily traumatized and suffered many different hardships, being able to move on and live a peaceful life is exactly what they wanted and Lu Wuyi even mentioned that in the story, how nice it would be to just live an average life. So it is a happy ending for the characters who don't have to remember all the terrible things they were forced to do (Wangyan) and all of the trauma they lived through (LWY and JL). Cdramas aren't Hollywood so the typical happy ending isn't a guarantee and I'm glad they give us different scenarios as endings instead of just sticking to the safe happy option, it sets the stakes much higher

the plot made absolute sense, you're maybe not capable to follow along...

it broke my heart that the sisters didn't get a reunion, especially since both their last words / thoughts were about their sister. I loved their sisterhood storyline. And I have a delulu imagination that Lie Jie hearing that voice from Ji Ling calling him means Li Jie will find them and then the sisters will reunite lol

yesss I was rewatching the part when he is cold Chi Wen and noticed his voice sounding much deeper and wondered if that was really him - thanks for clarifying! Not only can he change his voice but his whole face as well 😅 I know that part of it is of course also thanks to very good makeup and styling, but in some parts of the drama he looks to me like a 15 year old kid and in other parts like a completely different grown up guy. It's very cool to watch him

Does anyone know if TJR used his own voice for all the characters? He sounds so different when he is Chi Wen in comparison to when he is Ji Ling
