there will be dark and brooding Cheng Lei, don't worry. Starting from around ep 30 these were some of the best…
same! I even wrote a comment here that I'm glad he isn't getting type cast only for broody dark characters but is able to show a new range. He pulled it off so well

yeah I also think most of them look way younger than their actual age. The only time I thought an actress looked "too old" was when they put Yang Mi or Zhao Liying in roles where the FL is said to be 19 or sth, I was like...ok that's a bit of a stretch lol. But didn't mind it tbh

I wonder why some people get so toxic over Cdramas..weird behavior but oh wll

There are complaints here and there about the age gap. They may be buried by hundreds of comments in between.Yep.…
exactly, it's ridiculous what some people said about her, especially bc looks younger than her age (personally i think she has a baby face) and cheng lei looks mature. he's over 30 too..lmao some people are so weird

Yeah I agree, I think the actor has the most fitting age for a CEO. I think FL just looks very young but her mature styling definitely made the pairing look less odd!

Oh yes lots of people were hating on Song Yi, on MDL there were some casual comments on her being "old" but mostly on other social media platforms Cdrama fans are very disgusting towards actresses who are paired with younger actors. In Song Yi's case it was mostly bc of fans of the male actor's other pairing in a recent cdrama, so it was like a "competition" between who's the better pairing or sth..absolute childish lol

I find it interesting how nobody is hating on the age gap here - the actor is 39, the actress 26 (that's a 13 year gap) - while in dramas where the woman is older, you see tons of *WOMEN* hating on the actress because she's "too old looking" or "doesn't fit the younger actor". For example Dilraba with Arthur Chen, they have a 8 year age gap, and Dilraba received lots of negative comments saying she looks like she's the mom of the male actor etc. Or recently Song Yi with Cheng Lei - she is only 4 years older than the actor, which is a total normal age gap, but people were age shaming her and claiming she looked too old for him. Very concerning the double standards, especially since Cdramas are mostly female fans....internalized misogyny.
I honestly think Zhao Lusi and William Chan seem a bit of an odd pairing but I'm very excited to watch this drama for Zhao Lusi, just waiting a bit so I can binge.

Yeah I understand and I agree but in comparison to many other Cdrama, this one had me still entertained. I didn't think their dynamic was childish as they had a married couple type of vibe and they had lots of skinship. I also thought the progress of the relationship was pretty logical and this is a cdrama so I never expect sexual stuff anyway. But they definitely could've cut some episodes prior to him becoming Prince Annan! But as far as my experience with Cdrama, I rarely find a "perfect" one, there's always stuff that annoys me or drags on etc so in comparison I found Shadow Love really good and entertaining.

Finished it after binging the last 10 episodes and omg I LOVED this cdrama, it's on my top 3 faves of 2025!
I especially loved that it felt more mature than most cdramas, the storyline was different, something which is sadly rare these days (most cdramas feel like remakes of popular tropes we've seen 20 times already) and I loved the supernatural hero part.

I loved to see Cheng Lei in a different type of role - some actors get type cast a lot and I honestly expected him to fall into this as well after his success with MJTY. I watched LOTFG first and it definitely felt like a similar role to MJTY (although it lacked the depth and aura we got in MJTY), so I expected him in Shadow Love in something along that line. I was pleasantly surprised how well he pulled off the puppy-green-flag type of ML! I also think this showed his acting skills really well because he genuinely seemed like three different people when he portrayed Jinan/Prince Annan/Mask Guy. Even the way he stared and moved was different, really well done. I'm glad he's taking on roles that are outside the "dark and broody" type cast.

I'm not a fan of green flag MLs tbh and I thought I'd drop the drama once I realized that he was gonna be an innocent type of guy (or a bit of a fool tbh) but nevertheless I enjoyed their chemistry, which felt natural and sweet, so I kept watching and I quickly realized that they included lots of character development in the ML. Soon he didn't feel like a fool but a confident, capable guy who was smitten with his lover. It was so sweet to watch them falling in love.

Prince Annan was my favorite part though and they should have prolonged that arc but I saw someone mention that in the novel the Prince part was even shorter so I'm glad the drama writers added more screentime for Annan!

Song Yi is a really good actress imo. She pulled off the crying scenes really well, making me emotional too and she was absolutely cute when she was flirting/provoking Jinan or Prince Annan. I actually loved the way they'd both flirt with each other. The FL is really likeable because she puts everyone else first and thinks of herself last and it was really sweet seeing Jinan making sure she treated herself better. I thought this was a great message on what a healthy romantic relationship should look like!

I agree with everything you said! Actually, the whole plot had potential for a longer show to explore more of the themes in a deeper way but I guess they have to keep it short and sometimes have cut off strong storylines or prolong some storylines that aren't all that interesting. It would've been great if the whole Prince Annan storyline had been stretched out a bit longer bc those episodes were the strongest ones imo. It would've been really interesting if they had extended or deepened the whole supernatural power aspect a bit more too as you said. At the end they just included it pretty quickly and without much explanation, but I guess to wrap it up they have to cut stuff...

This drama hooks you in a different way. At first I honestly wasn’t into the story that much, it felt like nothing…
yeah this is a huge downside of Cdrama-watchers, for some reason people behave like 12 year olds. The behavior from LOTFG-fans was so off putting to me that it actually made me feel less excited about the show. I watched it first and noticed so many weird comments from the LOFTG-audience towards Shadow Love that just made me feel icky towards these fans. It also makes zero sense bc 1) shipping actors in real life is toxic, childish and it can even cause problems for the actors if it gets out of hand, especially if shippers want to stop ppl from watching and enjoying another show their fave is in just bc it's a different pairing. So childish. 2) if they like Cheng Lei, shouldn't they be supporting his work, regardless of the female lead? If they hate on his other show, they're actually harming him...
I personally didn't get into LOFTG because lots of things didn't make sense at all, the plot was badly written just to give the audience cliché romance scenes, but I still like both lead actors and think they did a great job. For me, Shadow Love is far superior plot-wise, quality wise, cinematically and also chemistry-wise, but that doesn't mean we should impose our opinions on others or even try to badmouth an actress...it's just so ridiculous.

well everyone's taste is different, but I really can't agree. The storyline is very fast paced and the FL's personality is very coherent and logical in comparison to many other Cdramas. Also the plot offers different obstacles to the FL & ML that are actually tricky to solve and their love story is amazing.

there will be dark and brooding Cheng Lei, don't worry. Starting from around ep 30 these were some of the best episodes in Cdrama I've ever seen. And even the "puppy" Cheng Lei has some character development and becomes stronger personality-wise. I'm usually not a fan of "cute" and green flag MLs, put I have to admit Cheng Lei pulled this off so wel..
