Well, I was totally wrong about YH's master.

If you rewatch the beginning of episode 1, it explains that 千门 got so powerful that the government felt threatened and cracked down on it. As a result, the sect split into Yuntai and Lingyuan.

I dunno about that. YX seems to have everything under control, judging by the scene where he and JB were in the shadows watching the merchants mob MBF's bank.

I notice that the pirate leader Guan isn't on the list. We've never seen him fight. I wonder if he's actually strong, or if he's just scary because he's leader of the pirates.

Who do you mean? I see four martial arts grandmasters in total. So far, the only grandmaster on the Lingyuan side is SYN's mother, Kou Yan. The strongest, Qian Rong, is on the Su family's side. Qi Tianfeng lost his martial arts, so he's out of the picture. That leaves only Zhong Beidou, who hasn't appeared yet, so we don't know which side he's on. Everyone else, including NGF, can be defeated by SYN/JB/KQ in a fair fight.

I'm used to seeing him playing comic relief characters, often alongside Joe Xu (e.g. Detective Samoyeds, The Dark Lord).

They talk about the "rightful" or "orthodox" ruler, so it's also possible that they're fighting to restore the bloodline of the 2nd Ming emperor, whose throne was usurped by his uncle (the founding emperor Zhu Yuanzhang appointed his grandson as his successor, but after his death, one of his sons rebelled).

And SYN is equal in intelligence to NGF? Did not expect that either. NGF seems to be a step ahead and keeping her guessing.

SYN is the strongest character if you consider a balance of both martial arts and intelligence. Very interesting.

If you ignore the fact that 千门 is the name of the original sect, and just take the title 千门之门 at face value, it also literally means roughly "the sect out of a thousand sects." In other words, the sect to end all sects; the most superior sect of all.

No, Yun Xiang is not a martial artist. He's all brains.

How heavy is the propaganda element in this drama? I hate ideologies so I'm trying to decide whether to watch or not. I usually only enjoy wuxia and mystery/crime dramas, but I like Yukee.

What if she's actually the one that he really fell in love with back in the day, but due to some misunderstanding he thought it was the villain girl? That's a common trope.

For a spoiled princess character in a C-drama, she's one of the less annoying ones!

That's a very interesting question. How did Wen Cong think she's SYN, when he's the one who supposedly saved SYN and became her godfather? And why did Qi Tianfeng immediately recognize her as SYN as well?

Right, but I have a theory that Yuntai is fake, and the Master is Nangong Fang's man. After all, no one has ever seen the Master's face, so he could easily be swapped for an imposter and everyone would be none the wiser. What if Nangong is using YX to get rid of the Kou family, and Ye was just a sacrificial pawn?

After all, so far YX is the only super smart one. It would be boring if there wasn't an equally smart antagonist, and so far we haven't seen one yet.

I'm very curious to see what Nangong's master plan is. He said that the more Yun Xiang wins, the more he's falling into his trap.

The ending is sad, but it's not a sad ending. I know that probably doesn't make sense. What I mean is, it really depends on when you end the story. If you think about it, every story will eventually have a sad ending because everyone dies, and in a couple, usually one partner will die before the other, leaving a lot of grief for the survivor/widow. That's just reality. If they chose to end the story earlier, it would've been a happy ending, because they were happily (if unofficially) together for many years. But they continued the story until after he died, leaving her all alone, so it ended on a sad note. Anyways, it's not like Princess Weiyoung, where the ML died after like a year. Here, he fell ill and abdicated 10 years after she became prime minister, and died 3 years after that. Considering the average guy only lived to like 40 back then, it's not bad at all.

The actress who plays the villain must be a vampire. She was in Legend of Lu Zhen (aka Female Prime Minister, Zhao Liying's breakthrough drama), back in 2013, literally 10 years ago, and she still looks exactly the same. No obvious signs of plastic surgery either. What the hell?

So far I like the two leads. The CGI though is sub-par for a 2023 drama; the budget was probably not that high.
