The female painter and the story teller are there because of censorship. Basically they exist to tell the audiences…
Either the censorship is getting more strict for this genre (set after 1949 with supernatural elements) in the past two years or the producer is not someone big with good connection with the authority (It happens that some big producers with connection can get their dramas pass reviews intact or with minimum modifications while if you're a small producer, you may suffer a lot more of the censorship).
As to Parallel World, the drama was supposed to be aired during summer holidays after Lost You Forever, but it didn't pass review and got sent back to be modified.
Someone in an ealier post has shown how the "sandman" originally had zombie-alike makeups and they had to delete some key fight scenes with the zombies (which is really bad because they were key relationship development between Ding Liu and Liuxi) and make the whole screen blurry to make it pass reviews. The bad special effect when they got into another world was also something that got added later on (the original one didn't pass review). Oh, and all the text warnings they had to put on screen repeatedlyπ
All the things show how strict the censorship is to this drama.
I was getting confused with the names Liuxi, Qingzhi, Longzhi, and seeing two females only. Also, who is the female…
The female painter and the story teller are there because of censorship. Basically they exist to tell the audiences that the whole story is fabricated because the Chinese censorship doesn't encourage dramas set in a modern world to have supernatural elements.
It's quite annoying as it's totally unnecessory story wise and it doesn't do any good to the pacing of the drama.
I think its not doing that well even in China mainly bc of the airing schedule. There is a fair amount of world…
Well, this drama has 30 minutes or less per episode, so it's like airing 3-4 episodes per week compared to others with similar schedule because most C-dramas have at least 45 minutes per episode. LOL.
At least the drama's index of attracting new purchasers of Tecent memebership is very high (It's been 4600+ since the second week of its airing. Tencent's most popular drama aired during summer holidays didn't reach this number). I think that's the main reason why Tencent sticks to the schedule despite everything as currently a streaming platform's major incomes are from selling of membership.
Sort of. The FL has a child sweetheart who likes her. The character will play an important role in the second half of the drama but he didn't appear in the first half (not exactly SML judging by the screen time).
Do meng ziyi have any screen time at all? From all the trailer I rarely see her instead I see other couples
Meng Ziyi's character is the main villain. She appears a bit late in the book but plays a major role. However, I think the drama has made her appearance earlier as it was already foreshadowed in EP 4 (much earlier compared to the book).

Found another version here but not sure if the scene is preserved completely.
