It's what is connecting DZ and SM together. This wasn't in the novel, it's an addition the show added. But notice how she has the dots and remembers their past life while SM can't? I'm pretty sure that's due to those dots / the blood drops from SM in their first life.

They actually changed it. They had them meet already which took so so long in the book. In the book it's extreme slow burn to the max but in the show it seems they are going fast burn route.

According to the trailers, not at first but he most likely will later. In the book from what I remember, it's been awhile since I read it, he didn't but she gave him clues to help him avoid things that she knew would/could occur.
