Just watched the fifth episode and it was really good. Right pacing, great action scenes and acting from everyone and the plot twists were handled well. This drama doesn't really bring anything new to the table, and that's indeed its biggest flaw, but it's one of the best Netflix original kdramas for me since it doesnt really have any major issue that can bring it down.
that's the kdrama standards. It's more realistic in Kmovies.
I can't relate to the poverty presented in the movies because it's often really extreme (which doesn't mean unrealistic, because that reality exist too unfortunately), but I can totally relate to the sisters here who are kind in the middle between poverty and middle class, leaning more on the poor side
I was watching until 30 minutes of ep 1... should I continue watching? I enjoy it so far, but there are mixed…
Imo the negative comments are overcriticizing this drama. The writing isn't bad at all, it just has some makjang elements that can be off putting for some
crazy to see the standars of being "poor" in SK, in my country with that house and those nice looking clothes…
The definition of poor changes from country to country. If a family doesn't have enough money to change a broken window then they're poor, if they're living in a home with ants everywhere then they're poor, if they're in their thirties, the age one usually starts thinking about marriage and making a family for themselves, and they're still living with their mother and sisters without even having their own room then they're poor.
Of course there are people that are even more poor than them, but that doesn't mean that they aren't struggling too. The nice looking clothes are a knock-off, they even say so in the first episode and they show Injoo's broken heels and the director telling her that the shoes hurt her feet because they're cheap. Same with the rest of the clothes. I like to wear pretty clothes like Injoo too, but I never spent more than €40 even for my winter coats, you can buy things on sales, on thriftshops or you can buy cheap quality ones.
I can’t with won sang ah using patronizing voice with others and ageyo voice with her husband. Lol. Since it’s…
If you look at the opening theme song you can see the sisters escaping from a house that gets destroyed by a woman's hands, so I think the final villain will either be Sang A or Hwa Young, unless it's someone that hasn't been shown yet. But anyway I think it will be a woman.
Totally unrelated to the drama.Isnt the MDL app hard to handle? I cannot see a lot of comments in it and cannot…
Same for me, I get notifications but when I click it doesn't lead me to the comment that mentioned me. I have to look for it manually. And I just noticed that I can't edit my comments anymore while it was possible before. But it's not surprising since the app is still in beta
I agree that some choices were made just for marketing purposes, like introducing dark skinned elfs when they weren't described as such in the original source. That's something that bothered me too because I hate the fact that multinationals are using important topics for their own gain with such lack of genuinity (for example, if they cared about black people they would have adapted the fifth season novels, just to name one, which were even awarded with plenty of Hugos awards), and I especially hate when they hide behind social themes to justify their flaws. But still I'm liking it. The point is that the bar for fantasy TV shows has been set so low that seeing a fantasy that actually seems like a fantasy, rather than people in funny clothes walking in the forest, is alaredy enough for me to give it my attention. It's also way too soon to judge the plot because it's a slowburn. Imo people are hating on it on principle/out of bias. I was ready to do so too because I was sure it was going to be a mess on every level, but it's not: the overall quality is higher than the Witcher, the wheel of time and season 8 of Got.
As for your sentiment for the genre I can't agree because I love it ahah, some of my favorite books belong in the fantasy genre. But anyways, Tolkien fans are known to be toxic even among fantasy fans because they tend to undermine everything that wasn't written by him and they can't accept criticism (of course not everyone is like this). As for Tolkien himself I don't think his greatness is up to debate: the man created almost singlehandedly a whole genre and his fantasy world is still one of the richest ones in the whole genre with so much care for the little details like the mythologies, the histories of each race and the languages. His prose was fantastic too. His only problem are his fans lol.
I wish everyone could understand this, but I noticed that people have a very stereotyped way of seeing poverty…
Yep, I'm fine with female characters being arrogant as long as they're also complex characters, but not when there's no depth to them like the FL in Vincenzo (I love the actress and how she portrayed the character, but the writing for her was very one dimensional). Some people just want girlboss moments, and that's fine by me, to each their own, but at least they shouldn't complain when female characters don't meet their standards. Every time the FL is not an immediate badass she gets hate comments (or if she causes troubles to the ML like in Extracurricular), it's honestly annoying. But for me Injoo is already one of my favorite characters: she's not incredibly smart, she's an average girl who is selfless toward her family to a fault, she's naive and not able to stand up for herself and that makes it even more interesting when she shows her teeth (like she did when she exposed her cheater colleague), she's reckless, greedy and highly impulsive, but she's also a woman who suffered a lot, who is ready to sacrifice everything for her family, she's determined and willing to improve herself, she has a lot of inner strength. This makes her a really fascinating and even relatable character imo (I noticed that my favorites are usually the least popular ones lol), so who cares if she doesn't walk in slow motion with her heels and badass pose and doesn't have witty one liners.
i watched the episode after reading the comments here and i thought it will not be good but the episode was so…
I wish everyone could understand this, but I noticed that people have a very stereotyped way of seeing poverty (like, I love Parasite and My Mister and I think they are realistic for showing people who had to grow up as savy and with street smart to survive because it's a reality that actually exists, but not all poverty looks like that, I can assure you) and unrealistic expectations on female characters that according to a lot of people here are ought to be always smart, competent, independent and rational badass women, but honestly there are so many stories like that and I find them unrealistic because that's not what I'm used to seeing everyday, so personally I'm actually glad that the women in this drama are average people that most of us can relate to.
Why is Injoo helping Doil find the 70 billion won? If Hwayoung left Injoo 2 billion out of 70 billion, it seems…
Because Injoo doesn't know how to turn the ledgers into profit without his help, this is his specialty. Without the money and his knowledge she's just an average accountant
It's getting hate from Tolkien purists because there are differences from his scripts. A lot of them admitted that they haven't even watched half of the half of the first episode, but they still gave the whole season a one star because they want to see it fail. Apparently there is even a great number of fanatics who want to take down Amazon with it and are kinda launching an internet campaign to boycott it so that Amazon falls, without taking into account the thousands of people that work for Amazon and that would suddenly find themselves jobless. It's "funny" that Amazon didn't get this kind of reactions when it was revealed how awful their job conditions were, people didn't care and still enjoyed their shows like The Boys and Fleabag, but those have suddenly decided to draw a line here and now.
Okay why people are commenting about Misogyny, when the most of the bad comments / are not liking this drama comments…
Women can be just as sexist as men though. If you go to literally any comment section in this app you will find many comments bashing the FLs in any drama, most of these comments come from female users. This is why most of us are kinda fed up with this attitude, especially because dramas starring popular actors that are considered attractive by many tend to get higher ratings compared to women centric dramas, regardless of the quality. It also feels like an echo chamber at this point because there are so many great things about this drama, but most people chose to focus on the sisters making irrational decisions and are treating the writer as if she's an amateur while she's a veteran that has been working for years in the movie industry
People are out there saying that the characters in this drama are unrealistic and I'm like what?? Since when regular…
After witnessing two violent deaths and after being brutally beaten up too. And let's not forget her younger sister almost dying too. People are like "oh but why didn't she call the aunt right away" as if she was in the right state of mind to make a rational decision after everything she went through.
some of these comments man 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀the way ppl always spread that quote from the movie…
People are out there saying that the characters in this drama are unrealistic and I'm like what?? Since when regular people who make irrational decisions in moments of crisis have become unrealistic? Are people so used to watching super smart characters who scheme their way through success while being badasses that they've forgotten how people are actually like in real life? Or do they just don't like this drama in particular because women have far more screen time than men?
I really don’t get why the rating is not as high as other dramas…
The ratings are lower than other dramas because people can excuse bad writing when handsome oppas are in it, but when women are the main characters the moment they make a mistake all the people who usually spam comments such "omg the FL is so annoying, ruined the drama for me" in every comment section come out of their slumber to rate it one star. 🤷
Not saying that this drama doesn't its makjang-ish moments, but the good definitely outweighs the bad and people are putting to much emphasis on things that they usually excuse in other dramas and that actually make sense in the context of the drama.
