Hello, I just told you that the scenes were cut to adhere to the censorship coz of the episodes being long. They literally got into a problem for this and had to edit out a lot of scenes. It has nothing to do with the ending. Just coz people link it like that, won't make it factual. How are forum discussions any different from fan fiction?

That's why it's perfect. You are free to perceive how you want. The novel readers will perceive it as HE coz they know its Xiao Heng actually returns to her after the war. For others, open to interpretation

The scenes were cut coz they got into issues with censorship for episodes being too long. They didn't purposefully edit out a sad ending to make it open. It was always a happy ending for them in the novel.

No, It wasn't a sad ending at all. They just did a small reshoot for that glimpse of their HE due to popularity. They never redid any of the 40th episode scenes. It was always meant to be like xue li waiting for him to return from the war. Just like in the novel & they just followed the same. Novel didn't have sad ending.

It wasn't a bad ending but just kind of open. However I wouldn't call it open considering how we knew that Xiao Heng was heading back just like in the novel. Maybe for non novel readers, it could be open for interpretation as him actually returning or if it's her imagination. And due to the popularity they probably wanted to do the small reshoot to show how their HE looks like. A glimpse into their life.

Actually, in my opinion we didn't even need that additional 40.5 to show how Xiao Heng and Xue li lead a happy life with their kid. Trust me it was nice to see the glimpse of what their life was but for me the 40th episode ending was just brilliant already. The way we know Xiao Heng was heading back to his wife & how they froze the screen with Xue li turning back to us. Wow, I was stunned by that ending. So beautifully crafted & very satisfying 😍

This is like the easiest 10/10 I have given for a show coz my word, even the last episodes never felt like it was rushed despite them doing some cuts for the censor. It's one of those shows where cinematography, direction, writing & acting were all picture-perfect till the very end & we have seen how many shows started good & failed on this front in the end.

We might not get something of this quality anytime soon. Impeccable Show. And the casting was just chef's kiss. Like besides the main leads even SYR, wanning, Ye shijie,, jing rui & even the emperor were all terrific choices. Hats off

She was even more ruthless in the novel. They have literally toned down both duke su and xue li by a lot from novel. I don't even understand why you were expecting your typical cdrama female lead who embodies the usual forthrightness & righteous personality in a show like this. She was supposed to be RUTHLESS in her revenge & I was already pissed they toned her down . Period.

why do you think the princess killed the doctor who diagnosed her as pregnant? Why do you think the servants were all scared in that scene when she was found pregnant? If the child can be made royal as easy as that, they wouldnt give 2 cents about it. It never works like that.

Also you have got this completely wrong. SYR never wanted power. I don't know where you got that from. He was always forced by princess to play by her game. He was a selfish coward who did everything to protect his mother & sister. As for now, he just found a way to escape using the pregnancy. This way princess is forced to marry Li coz of the rumours which had already spread. You can check it anywhere. It's just that the baby is still a problem for him & ties him to princess. Once the baby is not there anymore, he has nothing to do with Princess. That's exactly what he wants. Not a single scene where he tried to do anything to gain power. He was just pissed with his low status coz it was easy for the princess to bully him into becoming her puppet whereas she couldnt do anything to someone like Duke Su. That's why he says that to A Li.

So, he just wants his freedom from princess. That's why he was so happy having tea with his family in ep36. He thinks he can escape unscathed after all the evil he did but I think A Li has already got his ass covered. My guess is that she will somehow frame SYR for aborting princess baby which will make their illicit affair known to everyone officially (once the drugs wears off like she said & now he is planning on some drug to abort a fake baby).

Nope. Not at all. She wanted to marry SYR coz she loves him. Not coz the child will bear royal status or anything. The child will still be illegitimate. Now if she was indeed really pregnant & her marrying Li will make the child legitimate coz she has legally married Li & there are no rumours of their affair. You don't squash rumours by marrying the same person she was supposedly having affair & having a baby with which is known by the entire country. I guess the law also forbids princess(royalty) from having child out of wedlock. So SYR has nothing to gain by marrying her. He is fed up being her puppet & used the pregnancy rumours to escape from her chains. This is why xue li says she didn't expect this small deviation of SYR from her original plan

yes, but before that Xue li had already spread the rumours about SYR & Princess illicit affair & her being possibly pregnant by him (which is why she agreed to marry Li to dispel the rumours) . So even if she had married SYR, the child will not have royal status. As for why SYR didn't marry her, it's simply coz he wanted to finally escape from her chains & gain his freedom. And his last stumbling block for that freedom is the supposed fake child. So he is looking for abortion pills.

Yeah, I know infidelity, age gap stuff are frowned upon in mainland but it didn't stop some other shows to still keep it for conveying the importance of the plot. I am just disappointed the director probably wanted to play safe here despite the spectacular slow burn buildup between the leads. I am only venting out coz I don't expect this for every other show out there. This show totally deserved some serious intimacy in the end & would have been chef's kiss

how is she technically still married just coz she is alive when the marriage to SYR is already void with her supposed death. The emperor literally gave a decree for SYR to marry again which effectively means his previous marriage was already void

It has to be age gap then coz I do recall some other slow burn costume shows which did have good intimate scenes in the latter. I guess age gap intimacy is really frowned upon in mainland & just the director didn't wanna take the risk maybe.

Any reason for the lack of skinship in the show overall? Is it some censorship nonsense again or some other reason? I don't get it if it's censorship coz have seen some other costume shows with plenty of skinship. No clue how it works coz if any show deserved that kind of intimacy, it was this one. The slow burn was so worth it leading upto that moment only to be ruined by that candle scene. I feel so robbed :/
