At least the epilogues makes us think they are living happily. The positives in his 'resurrection' were 1) it was the first time he used Wo instead of Benzou in referring to himself, making me think he's now more in touch with his feelings and 2) it has basis (the bone orchid has his essence) unlike some where makers did not even try to explain how the lead (usually ML) survived/came back

Yeah, Changheng just missed too many chances to turn admiration into actual love. DFQC was with her in all the moments that matter and he frequently told her she matters like the 1000 orchids line. This is the reason I loved LBFAD, their love is organic, it's believable, and it did not change their values. DFQC still strived to free the soldiers, XLH tried to stop the war.

I missed it when watching without subs but in Ep7 Meinan did mention that Meiren is also a doctor so they would have a lot of topics in common but Zhuang Yu thought she even lied to her family about that. He can't believe that she has a PhD 😔

It was a happy ending in the novel so I don't think they ever intended it to have a sad ending. Maybe they just didn't think that ending would be too abrupt for most viewers. Also watch the epilogues. They may fall short in what we actually wanted but it's better than just stopping at ep36
