I think Qingtong’s books aren’t the manuals she was given. The training manuals are about the moves you practice daily which made her spit blood, whereas the sorrow and joy thing was just a reference to an ultimate move not a method of cultivation. (Like a secret way of unlocking 60 years of power type thing vs a training regime.)
The grief tree is the tree in the Black Fox’s origin story, the one that she grew from but wasn’t connected to, so it should be the love tree maybe? And they said she could get back if she grew a grief tree, but she grew a hate tree instead.
(I’m hoping she passes the test soon so she can go join the trio in the Western Regions, hopefully never to return to the crappy alliance areas ever.)

I think there's two trees, the hate tree and the love tree, as the origin story of Black Fox was that she was unconnected to the Love Tree and could only feed off hate? If this is the Love Tree test, could be that only pure love can grow the power of the Love Tree in them?

No— to save his life since Rumu was dyinggggg as his meridians were all ruined by dragon lady and then he overextended his powers anyway doing stuff like stepping in the way of attacks on her or freezing in cold rooms trying to find her 😭 What Rumu does with his own life is now fully his choice and HY already said there will be no more Soldiers.
