Love in Pavilion is the ML parents’ story and basically it ends SE and that’s why his dad has some issues now. There’s occasional flashbacks to the events in that show where relevant to the plot. 😃

Basically there are things called “meridians” in any kind of cultivation-y setting, which are the spiritual veins your spiritual energy is flowing through, and any time you damage your spiritual veins by doing stuff like overextending your power or taking heavy blows to it and these veins are damaged you spit blood 😂 (is my understanding), I think you basically get out of balance internally so you spit to expel the “bad”/ damaged blood and regain equilibrium again (again I could misunderstand as it’s only what I’ve got from watching dramas.)
