About the knife, I think the meaning was mentioned in this film or at least implied.
I agree. Kill Boksoon was a pretty entertaining film imo and one of the better ones on Netflix. It would definitely be a pity to skip it. I just thought that some people may only want to check this one (for the actors or for another purpose) and I believe it's understandable enough. I also don't remember much of Boksoon, but it didn't feel like a movie you can't follow if you haven't watched Boksoon.
I watched the movie when it came out, two years ago, and barely remembered it, but I didn't have a problem understanding what happened in Mantis. Worst thing is the spoilers, cause yes this is not even close to being as good as Kill Boksoon.
About the pacing and flashbacks, I watched it while it was airing, so that's maybe why I didn't have any problems.
Regarding arcs, I wouldn't say they are filler arcs. All these different individuals basically connect to solve cases at first, so it is natural that there are individual arcs/cases. That aside, most arcs are connected to the main story and are important for the plot to move forward. They don't exist there just to make the series longer.
For me, FoF is essentially a series about free will and I liked how many aspects from "Classic of Mountains and Seas" were integrated into the series and I think the arcs do a splendid job when it comes to introducing different yaos, so if you are interested in "mythology" the series does a good job at it.
Of course it has many flaws, some of which you mentioned. It's a "hit or miss" series imo, it depends on whether you connect with the characters, like the story and of course the cinematography (cause GJM pays extra attention to it, something that many dislike). So, all in all, I feel you may not enjoy the rest of it, if you don't like it at all now and find it boring, which is fine. Not everyone likes the same things.
That program sounds pretty plausible. I hope we truly get to see it this year though. I won't lose hope cause you never know with Youku.
I hope we get to see it at least in the beginning of 2026. It's a pity it still hasn't been broadcasted after so long.
I get that, which is why it's better to stay away from comment sections in general and fandom wars.
People will not stop just because me or you or anyone will stop commenting. Toxic fans are very much capable of creating trouble even by themselves if they want to achieve something.
So we can only stay away from it as much as we can, but I do believe (again for ME) that it is unfair for us to not be able to comment freely on a platform that we use, because we love dramas.
I'd totally get people being angry if someone offended an actor/series, but the sheer mention of a name creating that many problems makes me feel that we just simply can't mention anything cause someone (that will create trouble anyways if they find any excuse) may see it.
I heard about Love in the Clouds and Blood River, but which dramas are next?
I feel they barely mentioned any dramas in their conference honestly. Unlike iQiyi that gave us materials for many of their dramas Youku didn't bother with many series, but well at least it's still on their 2025-2026 list.
Way too much promotion for them not to announce LITC 😄
Straight up movie quality.
The editing and plot is a bit all over the place.
