However, I don't think he is THAT popular in China. Besides the fact that some people just dislike him, there are many that dislike his aesthetics cause they look "too much". Also many don't like his stories. I have seen quite a few Chinese people hating on his dramas. But well not everyone can like him and honestly speaking chinese netizens rarely like anything...
True about Xiao Zhan! Currently there are tons of dramas that Youku hasn't released yet with some big names and tons of reservations like Tales of Dark River or The Immortal Ascension. This is the main reason I'm hoping we get to watch HD during May.
He definitely gained fans, me included. He's another main reason I'm waiting for this one. He looks amazing and he was great acting wise in FoF so I can't wait to watch him here.
I think that if they actually decide to promote it it will gain enough audience. Now with the new rumour saying May, I'm wondering what will happen.
I have been in dramaland for many years and even though I also haven't watched many C-dramas in general, I usually look forward to a few every year so I kind of check the whole "progress". And yes, both FoF and MJTY didn't take that long to air taking into consideration they were great productions etc. They were released a bit more than a year apart which is nothing. Some dramas take years to air.
At least, they better give us a trailer here. I can't wait 😭
For now all I can say just based on reservations is that it is not that highly anticipated compared to others, but then again 0 promotion and we basically don't have a trailer. The thing is that many of Youkus dramas have over 1m reservations -Xiao Zhan's drama has over 3m- while HD has not even reached 300k
About the actors, it could be part of the reason. Unlike MJTY and FoF that had two quite famous actors , this one has too famous enough actors, but not that famous -still not sure about the FL, but ML is not THAT famous yet-. Even Veil of Shadows that wrapped a few days ago, has more reservations that this one (but well again there are more famous actors there and many guest roles which I think is also part of the reason, not to mention the amount of pics that surfaced online)
I agree it looks great! Even though this drama has 2 -or 3 directors- I'm wondering why it took so long to air. Other GJM dramas aired very soon after being wrapped.

In general though this one along wth Blossom in Darkness are probably the ones that people anticipate the most.
Like you said Winner is King is basically shelved cause of the ban, The Blood of Youth 2 and Love Travels Through Time have not been filmed yet -at least I think so-, The Fated General was filmed like 9 years ago, but due to a controversy they are making moves to air it this year lol. Besides Blossom in Darkness that is probably the highest anticipated currently, his other dramas even if they are filmed, look low quality and no one famous enough is starring at them. They may even just air drop them at some point.
He probably works only for Youku and because he is not too famous yet they are not rushing it. But taking that into consideration it wouldn't make sense to air this drama during summer cause it is not really meant to be a huge hit and help them financially.
Yeap, the reservations truly won't increase that way...
It's unfortunate. The only thing I was thinking is that maybe they are waiting reservations to hit a specific number before they start promoting to raise them. It will also depend on other platforms. They usually "fight" and when one airs a highly anticipated drama they do the same.
I actually believed they would promote it in April sunce they did that "show" -not sure if it was variety or something like that- and then Yanan's studio also uploaded some of his pics during the filming of this series, but well...

At this point I hope we at least watch it before the year ends...
My last hope was beginning of May if the drama of Xiao Zhan truly airs after mid-May.
If they don't air it then, we'll be lucky if it actually airs during summer cause that is the time that most platforms throw in their "strong cards" and even with promotion I doubt HD will be one of those cards comparing to other Youku dramas.

I don't think it has anything to do with the delay. From what I am seeing it seems that some of his dramas are either filming or are just announced, others don't look that high quality or at least they don't have that many popular actors and others are shleved like Winner is King...
Only reasonable reason I can think of the delay is the low number of reservations. But then again, how will it gain reservations if it basically gets 0 promotion?
I'm wondering if Youku will decide to promote the drama or will just air-drop it (of course there is the possibility that something is happening behind the scenes, maybe they think it will not financially benefit them to air it now or something).
Let's see. I hope we get a list of dramas planning to be broadcasted during May and it's on that list.
I was actually having very high hopes for early May since there are rumours that Xiao Zhan's drama will be broadcasted after mid-May, but now I don't know. I truly hope we get it though. June is too far away...
But well I have no idea what that platform is...

Cdramas were usually around 45 minutes, but I think that when they announced the limitation they mentioned that even though eps should not exceed 40, they can also be 1 hour long. However, there are some dramas that are longer but are from a few years ago. For example, My Journey to You has multiple eps that are over one hour, but it was released in 2023. I don't know if anything has changed now. They can certainly be one hour long, but I'm not sure if they can exceed that.
