Just quickly, the characters aren't secondary but supporting, since the drama is largely focused on the story between the leads. And no annoying character, since annoying to me equals uninteresting or that shouldn't be there...

I prefer Buffy too:) but I also watched Angel. Liked how it started but became too dark for my taste...

The only one missing from online is the one in the end of ep 19, but I think it'll still be included in the TV version. For example the scene in ep 13 online is in ep 15 TV version. In any case, online is better if both versions are available. And if not, it's either wait or watch TV.

When this drama is over, I'll bingewatch it again, and then I'll rewatch all XZ dramas and shows...

There has never been any information about anything to have to do with censorship. The episodes are cut differently to be adjusted to TV schedule. Like you, I switched to TV version recently, since they always air earlier.

The versions in terms of the contents are the same. Just the durations are different, and the credits are missing from the TV version (not always, I think).
In any case, whichever you watch is fine, you can even mix (as I do)....

If you watch after the episodes are available, then go with the DVD version, this is the original tencent online version.
If you watch during airing, nothing wrong for you to switch to TV version for some episodes, because the episodes air earlier (copyright issues).

I am certainly not justifying her father for being strict (and by the way, we should also remember that he got overprotective after she ran away from home when she was 9), but even then I don't justify it. Neither do I justify the fact that he would like to choose another path for her than being a musician. But as the drama progressed we saw also a caring father, who'd rather risk his life but provide for his family. We also saw a father who saw how his daughter got a 'puppy love' reacting as a loving parent... I actually like her father's character a lot. And the mother's, too. And I think the family scenes are well written, they are credible, 'they could exist', And I've said in the past, this isn't even coming from someone who cares about realism in a fiction.
And therefore, my post didn't mean 'he was a perfect' parent, but I also do not agree with a definition that he is a 'bad' father.

As to him, we didn't see his family a lot, but in a sense, his family is the same, they want something for him, without considering whether that's what he wants for himself. But we also see he doesn't rely on his parents, he acts with love and respect.

And yes, the best part of this all, is that when people find the one destined for them:), they can 'break away', be happy together, and somehow, even more than to say they grow, I'll say, they just become who they are initially.... :)

FL is neither aimless nor reckless. On the contrary, the drama starts by showing she is striving to live the life she wants, not following the path that her parents chose for her, to become a musician.
She is girly and may be she acts childish sometimes in front of the person she likes (and I mean this in a nice way), but she is also collected, and mature. And 'smart' isn't an antonym to girly or funny, or even childish, and intelligence isn't connected to a profession, since you mentioned you preferred that she was a geologist in the novel. May be the Novel puts more emphasis on the career, but the drama is purely focused on Romance and the 'story' between the two leads,
And about the dad, I think both the dad and her mother are very nice characters. In no point of this drama, there was anything that showed her dad being nothing but a loving parent... They are supporting characters only but are quite 3d, both because of the writing and acting.

Me answering to you, you shouldn't take it as if I am saying you should feel or see differently the characters, but I just wanted to tell you this is absolutely not what I saw watching this novel.
