I still miss this drama. No other show can beat this drama in terms of comedy. Still my go to for a good time and laughs YET also my go to if I just want to bawl my eyes out towards the end. Hahah.
I like this drama because it's rare for real red flag character become main lead in Chinese regular long drama…
I, too, think Chinese dramas have gone too far and too often with the green flag male leads. I just want to see mature leads with brains and grace. Lol
Some red flag main male lead in Chinese dramas with obviously main couple couldn't be together at the end:(other…
I still think Li Cheng Yin is the worst. In here, Yue Jin Chen had some part of Ah Yao's family massacre but he didn't execute them with his own hands like LCY. Actually, YJC came to rescue them but it was too late. You can't really blame him for having a plan but someone else had a quicker plan. LCY intentionally used Xiao Feng from the beginning, befriended her and all of the Danchi people and then literally killed them. That hits different. YJC didn't know or love Ah Yao yet at that time, so whoever was caught in the war of the princes were unfortunate but not uncommon. All the people in the palace had to choose a side, eventually, and coups were being taken down unpredictably. YJC was remorseful that he had caused an entire family and clan to die. LCY treated everyone as a sacrifice for his ascension to the throne.
Too bad this was a short drama or else they could've gone deeper. However, Xiao Feng was wayyyyy more pitiful. It's probably the actress Peng Xiao Ran that could play such a complicated multilayered character like Xiao Feng versus He Xuan Lin. I really liked HXL in The Starry Love as Qing Kui but in here, when she's finally the main female lead, she lacks the charisma and acting chops to portray such an intricate character. She can definitely cry but her acting lacks which is surprisingly found in Yan Zi Xian. I think the actor had a lot to do with people perhaps sympathizing with the ML because he was able to carry all of the complex emotions.
A cheap version of Goodbye My Princess. Although extremely toxic, Yan Zi Xian, the actor, executed all of the emotions perfectly. It's my first time watching him lead a drama, well, short drama.
There were many plot holes, questions, unnecessary overly dramatized scenes, and some bad acting, but the drama is too short and a bit uninteresting to complain. I skimmed most parts and didn't miss anything. π¬
just finished. wait did i miss some scenes ? can anyone tell me who is the " grand master " behind prince sui…
It was ML's brother-n-law. If you skipped any parts, you would've missed it. It was revealed in convos. Prince Sui's team wanted to implicate the Duke and ML's families so that they'll think twice before going after Prince Sui. Prince Sui wanted them to be on the same boat, so if they sink his boat, everyone goes down together sort of deal. That's why they got the brother-n-law involved.
everything is good and fine in this drama, the pacing is good, and the characters are loving but... The problem…
The drama is still good despite some flaws. There was a huge battle of words regarding that earlier and still now, here and there. One group loved to see ML suffer and would never forgive him no matter what he does because he lied to FL. While the other group didn't like that the writer turned ML, a fearless lord, into a simp, gave up everything even his dignity in chasing the FL when he lied to her to catch bad guys. Either way, it's an endless debate here and everywhere else. ππ I guess there's no right or wrong, just whose logic you're on.
I agree with you. The chase is too long and unnecessary. As a lord whose head was always on the chopping block for everything and everyone, he had to do what he had to do to pacify the courts regarding the bandits. It sucks because those bandits were pardoned not only to kick his face in the dirt by his enemies but once they got in power, they also tried to take his life too. It's a never ending battle for the ML.
That's why I said you're going to enjoy the long chase. π I understand both sides. Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I don't understand. However, I don't prefer long chases regardless of the gender and that's totally okay. Thus, the example I used up there, My Journey To You, reversed the roles, the FL lied to the ML instead yet they didn't spend 14 episodes to reconcile. Besides, the story would have no momentum if they didn't spend that much time building up the characters, their relationship, their hardships, and etc. They had to justify what was going to come up ahead after Episode 17, so they spent a good amount of time building if they're also going to have a chase just as long.
You were on Episode 16, so I simply encouraged you to continue on because there's going to be a long chase just like you wanted. I didn't comment for you to agree with me or me agree with you. People are going to have differences. π
Iβm in love with the empress! I would love a whole entire other series exploring her story more.
I have to go back and rewatch their scenes because I skipped them at the beginning. However, the empress began developing into a solid character after Episode 17, which was when I tuned in, so gotta rewatch her now. π
Why would they? Everything wrapped up nicely and given okay popularity, I don't think so.
In Chinese dramaland, there are tiers of dramas and actors/actresses, so they're not going to follow the same trend. Dramas like the one you mentioned have way more chances of having second or third parts like The Eternal Love because:
1. Lower budget: It doesn't cost as much to have continuous installments as long as the popularity was okay. These lower budget dramas will do anything for profit. Lower budget dramas take less time to film.
2. Less popular cast: Actors/actresses in these lower budget dramas have less important roles or bigger projects to film next, so the production houses can afford to have them return to their respective roles for however many times necessary and they want to too because they never know when will be their next hit, so they milk the opportunity. The cast in Are You The One are the next big things in the industry, so they've already moved on to bigger roles and normally don't wish to be typecasted or associated with one role only.
3. Novel: Maybe if this story was an adaptation of an ongoing manhua, the chances would be higher because the storyline is still progressing. However, novel wise, the ending of the drama practically falls in the same timeline as the novel, just took different paths to get there and didn't cover everything.
4. Expectations: Given the budget and expectations, this drama only fared average. This drama had no competition yet its airing success was okay. It did better than others but not enough splash to call it a hit, at least, a hit required to even consider other parts.
Episode 13 is still my favorite. The deep love they had for each other was realized in this episode. The entire execution, to emotions, to acting, to sweetness, to balance was perfect. What she said to him was the most memorable. β€οΈ
It was only 1 year but technically, 6 months since ML was going to send FL back to her hometown when he was going to marry his cousin. The plan was, ML was going to write a letter of truth to FL once FL arrived to her hometown and explain everything, by then, they won't see each other ever again. HOWEVER, FL refused to go and waited for him. But ML had to go to war next, so he wrote FL a divorce letter and shooed her away to go back to her hometown again. Once she got there, she'll discover the truth. HOWEVER, she didn't leave. She followed him to war. He was too busy with war then when they won the war, state affairs were too dangerous to tell her the truth because a villain, her uncle, was on the run and they were too far away from home. And this was when she discovered the truth. In between this one year, he was going to tell her so many times but it didn't happen for other reasons. SO NO, ML didn't lie to FL for 3 years.
Look, ML lied because he had to catch bad guys. It's no different from secret agents with hidden identities. So what if FL was on Ziyu's side who eventually became emperor? The time she was illegally smuggling iron, she was breaking the law. I'm sure Ziyu as emperor wouldn't be okay with Prince Sui smuggling iron behind his back JUST because he believed he should've been the emperor instead.π Gosh, criminals HAVE so many rights, more than the law.
I agree with you. Once they dragged out the second half, even when they reconciled, they were different. Even in their real marriage, they had less sweetness and the plot moved right on to politics, so it dragged again. π
Nah people here were defending the male lead and being adamant that she forgives him as quickly as possible because…
Nah, people can't reason with you either because you don't want the FL to ever forgive ML which is ridiculous. Haha. Even after 8-14 episodes of simping and we still have people who don't want the FL to forgive the ML?! That's too extreme. And ML is someone FL loves? You just proved those people right that no amount of sincerity, apologies, to life threatening dangers ML had to suffer would've satisfied those who hated the ML. π₯΄π
last 7 episodes or so were little boring, nonetheless the chemistry b/w the leads were outstanding.Kudos to the…
Even when the leads reconciled, their sweetness DIED down. I was merely disappointed in their wedding and the little amount of skinship before it ended. Their hugs were nonexistent. They seemed sweeter in their fake marriage, so yes, it got a little boring towards the last 10 episodes.

Aww, he always has the best goodbyes. I loved his Cang Xuan post too.β€οΈ
