Love your post but wanted to say that he did โdeserveโ it because of one boy crush mistake. He then ASKED…
Omg, thank you for sharing the tidbits. I haven't read the novel yet. I really adore this drama and all the characters!
I'm so glad I didn't listen to some of the feedback about this drama and gave it a go. This is my cup of tea. The story just flows and very consistent so far. The previews for the next episodes shows us how Feng Yin slays Yuan Qi with her words and bosses him around, reversing their master servant roles. Haha! It's a full circle, indeed. I wished they'd drop all the episodes at once but of course, they can't.

Haha, I agree somewhat. I don't think it wise of the elders to do everything, even sacrificing A Yin and themselves, just to avoid, lessen, or have Gu Jin dodge the tribulation all together when it was his decision to voluntarily enter Feng Yin's nest to please a girl. It was also his decision to take responsibility to fulfill the exchange for Feng Yin's resurrection like you said. With that said, yes, he deserves some percentage of this suffering. However, I don't think accountability means he should lose everything and keep suffering indefinitely. Because what about everyone else? He has put his life on the line a dozen of times from this journey already. When is it going to be enough? Everything begins from something, so every time he suffers, it's not just solely from that one decision he made early on. I don't think we can blame and say Gu Jin "deserves" all of this torture because a lot of it comes from greedy and selfish individuals who used him and A Yin to elevate their powers and desires. It's everything all together. Maybe things would've been a lot worse for Feng Yin if it wasn't Gu Jin who entered that day. Perhaps Feng Yin wouldn't be fit to be Queen or be smart enough to protect the realm if she hadn't started from the bottom and learn of people's true colors as A Yin. Their love story wouldn't have even started if Gu Jin wasn't stuck in the Forbidden Valley with A Yin. It's all fate. I just hope all the torment is worthy with a happy ending.
if you have such mature thoughts , how can you drop ALP ?๐ค
I may go back and watch it after this if I have time. We're at different places at different times in our lives. I've rewatched some older dramas I used to love and didn't find them as good as I remembered, so just cherish that experience because that time will never come again. That you will never be the same. Then I've rewatched some dramas that I've dropped and found really good revelations. It's fate and timing? It's age and wisdom. It's a lot all together. The cast, the directing, the acting? I may find this drama to be so good, but I know others genuinely won't. In the end, it all comes down to preferences. I've learned to enjoy life one day at a time because life is constantly changing, so I'm not concrete with anything.
I'm sure not all ALP fans like this drama either. I would like to say I'm mature? But I'm a person full of biases from my own experiences, preferences, and alignment, too, which is okay. Avenue X is probably one of the most mature reviewers I follow with so much insights, but she didn't like this drama but it doesn't mean I'm less mature, I don't think. Hehe. We're all different in the end and that's the beauty of life.
Just some random thoughts to share my love for this drama.
I think it's Wang An Yu's warm and no airs personality in real life that made Gu Jin so gentle, lovable, and relatable. The way Gu Jin hugs A Yin, carries her, holds her hand, cares for her, looks at her, protects her, loves her and so forth is so GENTLE. I see skin ship all the time in the hundreds of dramas I've watched, some are good, others are forced, some are too much, but there's something about An Yu towards Lu Si as Gu Jin and A Yin that is so deep, soft, and genuine, there are no words to describe those feelings. Anyway, I'm crushing on the both of them, actually. Haha. I fall in love with a drama when I see their characters and not the actors. I've watched all of Lu Si's well known dramas, but I like this one the most and especially with An Yu. This is my first An Yu drama that I've thoroughly watched and not just skim through, so I may go back and watch some older dramas.
=====================
Poor Gu Jin. He can't be everywhere all the time. I love how CONSISTENT this drama is. They emphasized in every heartbreaking story from Day 1 that none of the characters regretted their decisions even though they suffered bad endings YET for a dark moment, Gu Jin mistakenly shared with A Yin that he regretted meeting her. That BROKE her. He was the only one who verbally admitted he had regrets. He didn't realize the impact of those words that didn't mean anything in the long run.
============================
I love the fact that Gu Jin ALWAYS stood up and protected A Yin. He basically gave up the god realm for her knowing that her life is short and insignificant per that convo he had with Lady Hong Chou. He imprinted her with his spirit, so he can always protect her, loved that scene too. He was NO Ye Hua. He did all that he could BUT I guess, A Yin is his tribulation. Losing her is worst than losing his own life. This catastrophe just wasn't a one time event, it has been a thousand years of suffering and unrest for him and he didn't even deserve it.
I didn't think I'd like this drama this much. All of us have different opinions, but it's sad that some won't even give this drama a chance. They see ZLS and skip it. They're missing out, that's all I gotta say.
Episode 26: My favorite scene. Gu Jin and A Yin at the heavenly bridge making wishes together in his dream. Here, we see Gu Jin confess his love to A Yin, asks her to marry him, AND says sorry for accidentally killing her. Gosh! Those tears, those eyes, the entire scene of emotions that drip out nothing but sorrow, regrets, loss, and pain. Wang An Yu is so gentle, so subtle, so solid, and good. Their chemistry is pretty good too. I adore his acting so far and have a tiny crush on him right now. Hehe. I love it when a guy can cry so beautifully, so fragile, yet manly and madly in love. It's A Yin's great destiny to have fallen in love and died for such an honorable and worthy lad. He, too. A Yin's love is so pure, unbreakable, and long lasting. She chose him over all else. He was her happiness, truly. Her smile disappeared with him.
Ironically, I dropped Ancient Love Poetry, but this one has gained a special place in my heart. I'm so happy that I'm ending the year off with such a good drama.
Hm...Hong Yi deserves A Yin more? We serious here? Hong Yi, the one who didn't cherish and appreciate his aunt who clearly has loved him well over hundreds of years? Hong Yi who hasn't realized that he likes Yan Shuang in over a thousand years? Nah, he's just lucky the drama doesn't focus on his story or else there'd be plenty of room for critique.
Let's not unfairly judge Gu Jin who I pity the most out of all the characters. This guy has LOST everyone he loves, literally.
So what if Gu Jin is a true god or the son of two true gods who saved the realms? He's still a child. And even then, those immortals are so ungrateful of his parents'/family's sacrifices, disrespecting and talking mad smack about them. Who is Gu Jin? Gu Jin has no profile to command the arrogant and wicked adult immortals who play the game so well. It's hard to resolve all of the issues when there's literally a mole in every clan and they're not just ordinary spies, they're the highest ranked, most trusted, and respected ones who polarize the entire realm. There's no way Gu Jin can handle them. He's only 200 years old and then A Yin is basically five years old, so we have two main leads who love each other SO MUCH and have DONE everything possible to stay together, but due to really really bad circumstances, conniving adults, cruel world, a biased hierarchy that discriminate the weak and poor like water beasts, their love pays the price for other people's crimes, hate, greed, and mistakes. My heart breaks for the two, equally. I totally understand Gu Jin in Episode 25. He was trying to save A Yin and HE DIDN'T KNOW about her punishment. It's funny, he wasn't there when Daze Mountain was destroyed and then again, he wasn't there when A Yin was internally destroyed by Hua Shu causing the lost of both.
Gu Jin, dumb? I find him to be so ordinary like any guy out there who falls for a girl who saved and stood up for him, the prettiest one at that too, who's so good at coaxing, lying, and manipulating, with such a good resume in the heavenly courts and family background, like who wouldn't fall for Hua Shu, realistically? One of the main things people have against him is Hua Shu. He wasn't that unreasonable and unlikable during the entire process. Sure, he had some cloudy moments, but people fall for the wrong people all the time. I don't count this against him. That's Gu Jin's charm. He's no perfect gentleman who immediately falls for the right person. He's not a cold and aloof guy who's too mighty to talk to anyone. He's extremely friendly, approachable, given his identity, bubbly, lovable, happy, despite his sad beginnings, and just wants to live in peace. He's a lazy fellow with lots of flaws, has no ambition because he wants to remain free, simple, and unknown in Daze mountain, forever, does a few things, not everything, for a girl he crushes on, yet never hesitates to give up his life for a shumei he so called can't love, he doesn't get things right away, but he's loyal, honest, genuine, and gentle towards those he loves, he'll always be there for everyone. He has grown up so well in the worst circumstances under his birth right.
Gu Jin has always placed A Yin first in his heart, whether he was aware or not, yes, even above Daze Mountain but when he lost Daze Mountain and realized that his master and brothers have known all along that they'd perish one day from his tribulation yet still lived each day so preciously with him, that mountain of guilt, grief, sorrow, stress, pressure, and accountability threw him off a bit. He wasn't himself during A Yin's last days and I don't blame him. Everything happened so quickly, there was no time to thoroughly process everything. At face value, too much happened: Hong Yi betrayed him, Lan Feng got killed, A Yin was dying, Daze Mountain got destroyed, he just ascended back into his god form, A Yin released Hong Yi placing him in an extremely difficult position, he was trying to find the moles, trying to prevent another bloody war, it has been a crazy ride and it all ended with losing A Yin in the CRUELEST way possible with him KILLING her. Killing the one he loved and cherished the most is a HUGE regret. I mean, how can true gods feel anything anymore when all they suffer are losses? Anyway, let's not bash or be too hard on Gu Jin/Yuan Qi. He truly did everything for A Yin and she, the same. It wasn't too little, too late, it was more of fate. Fate is when you've done ALL that you could yet still lose it. And perhaps it's their fate to lose one another for a thousand years to enjoy a long life together later on. I hope it's a happy ending. They've truly suffered enough already.
But I'm ready for all the angst. This is angst that MAKES sense and quite healthy. I love the consistency of this drama. They've built up Daze Mountain to be soooo lovable so the loss was a huge one. They built Gu Jin and A Yin's love story so well too that when he killed her, it was SOOOO SADDDD and intense. I honestly still cry watching Episode 25 and 26 and I've replayed it over 10 times. Everything was perfect in those two episodes.
Anyway, looks like I'll be here for the next few weeks. Lol
This was definitely one of my favorite dramas. Despite complaints of the second leads hogging the screen time, the main leads not having chemistry or so boring, the story line being all over the place, I have to DISAGREE.
All of the stories were good, all of the characters were fleshed out, the dialogue was deep, the acting was convincing, the overall message about life was well conveyed. Besides the dumb ending, the drama was a slow burn romance but well worth it.
This has actually been a pretty good drama so far. It's xianxia, so like always, things will only make sense in their world.
I really adore ZLS as Ah Yin and contrary to everyone everywhere, WAY has done a solid job as Gu Jin/Yuan Qi. I binged this drama for the past two days and now I'm all caught up. I can't wait to see when they meet again.
I honestly can say, only ZLS can pull off this character so cutely and bubbly without coming off as annoying or too much. Yuan Qi's eyes during that scene was sooo good.
ZLS's baby voice is no issue at all. It's a tone to reflect her young and innocent age but her character is actually quite witty, straightforward, and ordinary. Her cute voice isn't for attention or to make people feel sorry or find her cute, that's just her voice at her tender character's age.
I'm so glad I didn't listen to some of the feedback about this drama and gave it a go. This is my cup of tea. The story just flows and very consistent so far.
