I’m a bit confused. Why shouldn’t people give the 2nd season of this drama a chance just because the FL decided…
Oh I see! For you, it was her and their bond that kept you engaged in this drama. Personally, I enjoyed the drama as a whole which might be why I don't feel her absence as significantly yet. Ideally, it would be great to continue with the entire cast ofc but it was her decision either way. I’m willing to give Season 2 a try and see how they can work things out! ^^

they removed “romance” genre?
Since the FL from season 1 has changed, it makes sense. Even in S1 their relationship was developing very slowly into a romantic one and viewers were expecting to see them as a couple in S2. But since the actress declined to continue because of another schedule and a new FL has joined the cast, they clearly can't move forward with the initial plan.
I suspect that S 2 will be sort of a repeat of the same pace as S1 regarding the relationship between the FL and ML, gradually warming up to eo again.
Personally, I don't mind this change much because in shows like this I prefer it when the main focus is on the cases. That's why I enjoyed season 1 as well!

Most of the Season 1 cast is still in it though? Plus Season 1 focused more on the ML and the cases rather than his romantic relationship with the FL. At this point their relationship didn't even reached the "romantic stage" yet. But yeah as one of the leads her presence was still significant and she helped the main lead overcome his trauma and grow so she was an important part of S1.

But also I don't think it would be hard to believe in a scenario where a sudden transfer occurs or smth allowing us to move forward with a new FL. Of course we still don't know if they will have good chemistry or not but I would expect people to at least give it a try before passing judgment.

Personally, I can't wait for Season 2 to come out! Season 1 was incredibly entertaining and offered a great mix of comedy and action thriller elements. Although the female lead changed due to scheduling conflicts, most of the rest of the cast along with the screenwriter and director remained the same which puts me at ease.

In Season 1 the romance was only hinted at and not fully developed with the main focus being on the cases and the male lead's past. I think this also made it easier for me to accept the change especially since it has been quite some time since the show's release.
For those who aren’t familiar with the new female lead, I’ve seen her in other K-dramas like Pachinko, Anna and Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born and she did a good job in them!

Absolutely pointless to watch this. On principle alone refuse to watch it. Can't believe the FL dropped this for…
I’m a bit confused. Why shouldn’t people give the 2nd season of this drama a chance just because the FL decided to pass on it for other dramas, which in your opinion, aren’t even worth it? It's not this drama's fault... If you’re upset with her, wouldn’t it make more sense to support this show and prove her wrong for giving up on it? I’m just trying to understand the logic here.
Plus the new actress who took over the role in this season has a great acting portfolio if you’ve seen her in Pachinko, Anna, or Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born, so I think he can feel her shoes!

Nope he wasn't involved in the Gu family's downfall but after learning that his father wanted to execute them all he pleaded to his father by kneeling in the rain to spare his wife and that he would handle the execution himself in return which he did...At least based on what I remember and saw.

Well, it's not a surprise - female leads thrive the most when the ML isn't around. That's why I hope that one day…
I know what you mean. It's kinda rare to find a drama where both leads feel equally competent instead of one constantly overshadowing the other. I also appreciate female-centric stories where the romance supports the plot rather than becoming the plot.
Btw based on your recs above I think you may also enjoy A Dream of Splendor, Flourished Peony, Sword and Brocade, The Story of Minglan, and The Double (these are some of my fave that comes to mind rn).
They all give the FL plenty of agency even if romance is still present to varying degrees.
As for cdrama where the couples stand as equals aside from some I already mentioned above there is Destined, A Journey to Love, New Life Begins (seves lots of laughs too).
I'd love to see more dramas that have the FL to carry the story though as well.

I mean I really liked the male lead and his cheekiness but yeah the FL truly shined the most in the last few episodes, where she took over!
This seems to be common trend in dramas that focus on one lead honestly be it female or male, where the romance isn’t the central plot point. I would definitely enjoy more female-centered C-dramas in the future too!

Eps 32-35 really deserve to be watched all together!! I am glad I waited! They were such a treat fr!
FL owned each ep and I think she shined the most in these eps! Her longing and love for ML and her resilience in pushing through and protecting herself and their child against the odds! I think it's become my fave arc!
Onto ep 36 now~

Honestly, everything about the show was enjoyable except the script/directing at times. I loved the lead characters, their chemistry, the OST and the cinematography! The story featured many appealing tropes, blending elements like arranged marriage, leads with secret agendas and family dynamics. However, there were plot holes and scenes where logic seemed to fly out of the window. Which isn't rare for a cdrama. I believe some of these issues might be related to the editing or directing of those particular scenes as well but the script also played a role in it.

That said, if you set aside your critical thinking and simply enjoy it for its entertainment value, it’s an enjoyable show! And personally despite its flaws it still managed to keep me going until the end!
Also this is one of those cases where you will enjoy the story more if you read the novel which in my opinion is better written with more emphasis on the politics and makes more sense overall!

Title Spooky in Love Spoiler
My guess is ML is in a coma and will stay as spirit by FL's side for some eps to grow closer before finally returning to his body?? Because in that last scene he looked too clean and without pain so I doubt it's really "himself".

Kinda concerned after reading some of the comments but hopefully even if this sucks, it can at least lay the groundwork for more such dating shows with better casts...

She was 17 actually! And that's why they said it will only have a forhead kiss! The chemistry however is good!
Well, initially I had my concerns as well but I ended up watching it anyway cause I like the beginning. Still, if it makes you feel uncomfortable you can just skip it! There are other nice c-dramas currently ongoing!^^

There's no such a thing as "innocent soldier". It's a profession a person voluntarily chooses knowing…
I think we're talking about two different things.
I agree that commanders bear greater responsibility than ordinary soldiers. You just didn't elaborate on it further which left me with the wrong impression. That's exactly why I said generals and rulers should be held more accountable than the people carrying out their orders in my own reply.
Plus it was never about military law or command responsibility. You are switching this from a moral discussion to a legal/military one. My point was about the way the story frames the deaths of soldiers. Earlier in the drama, the deaths of 30,000 soldiers are treated as a tragedy that drives Wu Yi's motivations. Later, a different group dies because of a fake plan and I'm expected to view it differently. That's the inconsistency that didn't sit well with me.
And when I said soldiers aren't automatically guilty simply because they enlisted, I wasn't denying that they accept the risks of war. I was saying that accepting those risks doesn't make their lives less valuable or mean they're morally responsible for every decision made by those above them.
As for the FL I never claimed she would have approved that specific plan. My point was that based on her character development completely shutting her out felt like a writing choice I personally didn't deem necessary.
