It seems those lines, along with others, are now missing after the edit.
Originally, there was no mention of treason it only stated that her family had fallen. After watching the drama, I saw that both her family and the male lead's family became thorns in the emperor's side due to their past comments at court. However, the male lead's grandfather was wise enough to recognize this and resigned while also moving his family out of the capital. He did not warn the female lead's family because they were each fending for themselves, especially when confronted by the emperor. Trying to warn them could have jeopardized his own family's safety. But I hadn’t started the show yet when I asked for clarification and the previous summary wasn’t clear about these details. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked!

I just started watching this and I want to make sure I have the opening events correct since there seems to be lots of information and characters shown in the opening!
Our FL and ML are actually cousins? Because ML called her father uncle in the beginning. And although she is bright, as a woman she faces limitations and secretly supports him as a study partner? And now they are married and she is known as Madam Cho, but they don't have children yet because of fertility issues? (Okay after the time skip the one she married is Lord Yoo not Cho Won)
Also they showed Lord Yoo being particularly fond of his nephew, which I think reflects his desire to have kids of his own. So I gather that the FL is struggling with conception and the girl she saw was a concubine she was considering recruiting to bear a child for them? This is why she also had a fertility examination performed by the doctor right?
Btw how is the Left State Councillor's wife related to them and why does she so openly question FL about the concubine thing and ask her to introduce the concubine to her? Also tobacco seems to be quite an important detail in this since in just this 1 episode I've watched they have mentioned it plenty!

Some of my faves apart from those you mentioned, that could fit the vibes are The Story of Minglan, Story of the Yunxi Palace, Destined, A Dream of Splendor, Blossoms of Adversity, Flourished Peony, The road of Splendor etc.
I've finally started this series and almost every episode brings me to tears. TT The beginning has been quite rough for our female lead! It also reminded me a bit of Yanxi Palace or The Story of Minglan! The lives of women espescially those with their freedom stolen, were sure tough...
The ending scene of episode 14 honestly gives me hope for a possible Season 2 especially if the first season was successful and the writer can create a solid continuation. But then again, many sequels tend to disappoint so we might as well cherish this and rewatch it!
Also, idk why some people found the last two episodes rushed. Personally, I think the conclusion was quite strong and well-rounded! I just wish there were more episodes overall, like 16 or more, so we could see more cases. But if there is one thing that ticked me off about the finalle is that last scene lol Cause she initially resigned and even took a six-month break. Just when her life seemed settled with her husband and daughter, she starts killing again? Plus, since Kingfisher is supposed to be dead now, she would have to change her M.O. to avoid suspicion...But at the same time, I did find that scene to be quite accurate and telling because, at the end of the day, Bona is a killer herself, being someone ASPD and clearly can’t stop! As long as other criminals exist who fit her "hunting" criteria, so will she!
I left this to marinate for a good reason after Episode 10 and omg the goosebumps I got during the beginning of Episode 12 were so worth it! Not having to wait a week for the last two episodes was such a relief! Btw the husband's reaction was exactly what I expected, the actor did a fantastic job! I'm really sad that I will soon have to say goodbye to this show. This journey has been truly epic! It's the first Kdrama I've been able to watch and follow each week, with the excitement never fading!
