I'm kind of sad this series is on Mango tv because of the english subtitles. Can someone reply to my comment or…
๐คฃ Nah honestly the subtitles for Mango REALLY are fine, 1st episode is free without needing a subscription on their site so you can check it out yourself instead of waiting for a day that might never come ๐
First 5 episodes are ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ - and the chemistry and dialog subtext is..... As one commenter on Weibo put it from about 1st episode 'This isn't fighting, it's clearly flirting!'
I ended up liking this story so much that I actually ended up reading the novel ๐ - I'll say that this version…
Oh and for this versions vs the novel I was right that it was an 'alternative' way as a different character was greatly reduced in significance in this version and so couldn't take part in the ending as written in the novel which made it ACTUALLY make more sense ๐ - It still makes sense in the vertical as it's shown... it's just.... 'odd'.
3rd of 3 (so far) of this adaptation. This version has the longest runtime which allows for a "Better Overall"…
I ended up liking this story so much that I actually ended up reading the novel ๐ - I'll say that this version is definitely the "closest" to the novel but also ๐ - wow was that "romance" not romancing for me in text format... I was MUCH more interested in the crumbs of the side couples storylines in the novel ๐คฃ - Despite all this I do think the vertical versions make the story come alive better since they don't focus on "gritting teeth and bearing it" and "tears flowing down her face" and " "making him promise only once" then try and convince the reader that this means she is enjoying it a LOT ๐คก...
The ML only had 2.5 hours of screen time in a 40 episode dramaโฆ probably too difficult to build any chemistry…
Idk... I love him to death and he's an amazing actor but chemistry doesn't require a large amount of screen time to accomplish. He had amazing chemistry with Wei Jun and they had barely any screen time; he had chemistry with the child actors; with his sister-in-laws; with Gu Chusheng... all of these characters had much less screen time than the romantic relationship but the way it was directed and edited had the two of them feeling more like a puppy love that was unrequited even by the end screen. Also, again I love him to death but the story focused too much on them in my opinion when I felt the story would have benefited with more 2nd couple scenes, war scenes, and palace politics scenes. I found myself often bored during many of their "filler" romance scenes but again this is my personal opinion towards the show as a whole vs my love of the actor as a person ๐คทโโ๏ธ.
The fact I enjoyed the secondary couples more than the leads sort of annoys me because they way they told the story to fill it up there was just nothing but Wei Yun and his jealous puppy love eyes. I VERY much agree that it felt like there was more chemistry in the scenes with Gu Chusheng and even a few times I thought "Guys both of you just get over her and you two be together" ๐คก.
3rd of 3 (so far) of this adaptation. This version has the longest runtime which allows for a "Better Overall" story to be told. Additional plot points flesh the characters out and the FL becomes (almost) an actual person with more character growth beyond letting go of the love of her nominal brother for the love of her new husband. Meanwhile the ML is portrayed 'slightly' less as an insatiable nympho though "slightly" perverted ๐ and obsessed with FL in a more "yandere" way. What intimate scenes are shown are definitely more on the erotic side than the sensual side. The addition of the palace plot to this version make this story feel as though it could possibly become a slightly longer version and become one of the "greats" in my opinion. However, a large negative is the ending which feels as though it had to be shot it an "alternative" way in order to air. This version has additional story for the brother and his concubine and the most "hea" ending for the brother's storyline.
If you're wondering: Version 1 is the most realistic and most frustrating due to multiple misunderstandings. ML is very much in love with her but is NOT portrayed as a nympho and after the birth control soup scene present in all, they practice abstinence to prevent unwanted pregnancy until she's ready. Version 2 is the most romantic but also has a rather choppy story that benefits from watching another version.
Oh! It's because the truth WASN'T "out". She was the old dynasty, HE was the current dynasty... so he…
That was personally MY thought but I think what it came down to was 1: he didn't want to be the rule and 2: there was still the issue of her being the previous dynasty where in "theory" her faction could kill HIM and force HER to marry someone to have a "legitimate" claim. I will say that for a lot of the things that did annoy me about this show the actual politics that went into it (until the "Perfect female ruler equality" ending) were rather realistic I thought. And it was because of the realism and the helplessness that went into the factions at play that of course led to all the frustrations when someone is used to HEA "I'm the Emperor I can do whatever I want, dismiss the harem, marry a maid as Empress, kill anyone without repercussions" fantasies.
I'm watching the one with Chen Si and Han Yu Tong now and it very good. https://kisskh.at/801308-lao-gong-qing-he-wo-lian-ai-ba…
Definitely this! Though I will say for the first time in IDK how long I just read a book after watching a vertical and liking it but people on weibo complaining about how it was an awful adaptation ๐คฃ (After reading it I can see why they think that since the book was BEYOND slow burn and the vertical starts out with her sleeping with him)
