I had no idea about this. That's very interesting. Do the other actors speak with Taiwanese accent and are the…
Let’s be honest here. The Taiwan/China thing runs even deeper than this. The majority of Chinese people are fine with the CCP, are extremely nationalistic & proud plus they’re fine accepting BL censorship that goes along with it. They won’t march in the streets to change it. They just do what we know, get a VPN and/or pirate like you say, while the CCP, for the most part, turns a blind eye to that, so they can keep the public essentially happy, while still controlling national TV and maintaining their public stance about BL dramas.
With this comes the double edged sword for Taiwanese entertainers who want to have any share of the Chinese market and their support. Since Chinese are hugely nationalistic, they all believe Taiwan is China’s property. Never mind having to imagine what would happen to Taiwan’s Same Sex marriage laws if the world community pushed, and Taiwan gave in and became Chinese territory, if ANY Taiwanese entertainer publicly expresses their OWN nationalism and love for Taiwan and its independence they are publicly skewered by the Chineses fandom. Chinese are so adamant about it that they will force the TAIWANESE citizen to publicly apologize for loving their own nation’s nationhood and sovereignty and the world community will back China on this, not Taiwan. This is something I never understood my whole life other than, China has over a billion people and the rest of the world just wants their buying power. Funny how CCP benefits from capitalism this way., huh?
What does this have to do with accents? Because China thinks it owns Taiwan, of course, that influences those that think Taiwan accents are backwards and hick country bumpkins who are ignorant to the motherland’s formal language, Mandarin. It goes along with the idea that, if China ran Taiwan and controlled its language and culture, it would be better for them because they’re all just ignorant fools to want independence they don’t deserve. The CCP promotes the idea that Taiwan belongs to them, period.
Dang Douban currently has this drama rated the same as MDL 8.4 on 3295 people reviewing it. I think the interesting thing about the reviews are the diverse take on Yusuke's acting via his "accent". Some are bothered by it and think it's cringe, but, interestingly enough, there are a lot of Chinese who are finding it endearing.
I don't speak Mandarin, but I do speak Japanese, so I can't really speak to the "accent" part, other than, I'm fully aware that, from episode 1, Yusuke has been interspersing Japanese between his Chinese. From what I can gather, his Mandarin is spoken with a tinge of a Taiwanese accent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Chinese, I believe, tend to be elitist about this and criticize when an actor doesn't speak Mandarin well, so it's nice to read that so many find him cute talking like this than are bothered by it.
In the first scene of episode 1, Yu mentioned his father going to Japan after his mother. I took that as his mother…
Per the drama's information, he grew up in Japan, then moved to Taiwan to live after his mother passed away:
"Zhou Shuyi, who grew up in Japan, is a mixed-race child with a good family background. Although his mother died when he was very young, Zhou's father made up for his only son's heart with his "strong" paternal love. Zhou's father cultivated him with elite education. He has been the number one since the kindergarten. No one can beat him. He has cultivated his self-confident, aggressive, willing and unyielding character, and never admits his mistakes.
Returning to Taiwan, Zhou Shu Yi has always ranked second since the appearance of Gao Shi De in his life since fifth grade."
No, they are just extra specially professional and put all they had into acting their parts and making it real, as well as providing the "fanservice" that comes with promoting their drama they want to reach No. 1.
Let's not do the ship thing. Sam has been openly in a relationship with https://kisskh.at/people/43493-joyce-chu for 3 years now. Everyone knows it. He was asked about her at #WBL's 1st press conference. It's not a secret.
Let's just enjoy how spectacular their acting is, and how much these two committed to putting into their chemistry that there is little to no cringe in this plot, and their acting gives off exceptional chemistry. =)
Can I ask something guys? Ummm is the confession scene was said in Japanese? Cause like I kinda heard some Japanese…
He says over the railing, "我周書逸喜欢高仕德 [Mandarin] Wo, Zhou Shu Yi, xi huan Gao Shi De だい だい だい だい だい好き[Japanese] Dai, dai, dai, dai, dai-suki 真的好喜歡[Mandarin] Zhen de hao xi huan 世界一番だい好き[Japanese] Sekai ichiban dai-suki だい だい だい だい だい好き[Japanese] Dai, dai, dai, dai, dai-suki 我喜歡…."[Mandarin] Wo xi huan
[Gao Shi De pulls him down from the railing]
English Translation: "I, Zhou Shu Yi, like Gao Shi De. I very, very, very, very, very much like him. I really[honestly] like him. I like him the very best in the world I very, very, very, very, very much like him. I like...."
I think the thing that shocked me the most was how YU was, at first, wonder where Sam was going with his sales…
Well, I don't want to use this as a diss fest. I give credit to Thai BL because they've really brought so many to mainstream that other Asian nations want to get in on the "money-making" that comes with it. Let's be honest, these guys are great salesmen and likely make these production companies, and their sponsors lots of dough. So, we benefit from more dramas that in turn making it more mainstream. It's honestly why I think South Korea has gotten into the game producing much more mainstream than they have ever done.
Also, we must acknowledge that India, Hong Kong, Japan, & Cambodia are the *only* Asian nations that even recognize gay partnerships or cohabitiation. In the Philippines, Japan, Nepal, India, Bhutan having pending legislation on Same Sex marriage, but Taiwan is the ONLY nation in Asia, at all, to have legalized Same Sex Marriage. Heck, a lot of Eurasia nations outright ban it, including Russia. So, what I'm saying is that it is definitely easier to be natural about in a nationwide community that doesn't stereotype or social stigmatize a straight guy who would play this kind of role.
I think the thing that shocked me the most was how YU was, at first, wonder where Sam was going with his sales…
Like how when Sam gets shy and can't think of anything to say he hops on Yu's bed without asking. Then when fans call him on it, he's like, '...what stranger..." lol. Or when Yu actually called Sam by Gao Shi De in a cute way and they get all giddy. In fact, Sam pointed that out how they're all like little girls giggling together. hahaha.
The two really did develop a unique bond with each other. It's quite refreshing to see these 2 give 2 shits about how it comes across. This kind of sincere fanservice I can appreciate. Others are so cringe for their #tryhard you just have to look away. Here, it just makes you smile & giggle along with them. ;)
I think the thing that shocked me the most was how YU was, at first, wonder where Sam was going with his sales…
Let me give a disclaimer, all the BL couples, in this drama, went through the training, and in the studio they were in classes together, similar to how the Thai BL teams work on chemistry. However, it appears that Yu & Sam went above and beyond to make sure they developed proper chemistry for this series:
3) Then a day ago Result Entertainment posted a over 3 minute compilation of all the couples work to achieve closeness behind the scenes here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKd4fFwA4w9/
Based on this, I'd say their level of professionalism in trying really hard, in a short period of time, to up their natural chemistry together this way is something truly praiseworthy. =)
I think the thing that shocked me the most was how YU was, at first, wonder where Sam was going with his sales…
The PD for this drama made a lot of statements about all the prep they did with these 2 to get them acclimated with each other before shooting.
I don't speak Chinese so I'm just going off what I gathered from what others were saying but it looked like they had the 2 move into YU's place for a while and then in studio they had them doing a bunch of games and interactions. I'm aware that Thai BL teams do the same thing but it just seems that Sam & YU were really ultra-professional and motivated to work on their interactions to make it as seamless and natural as possible. So, I suspect it's a combo of a couple things, namely, they're both actually good actors, and their personalities, thankfully, really mesh well. What I mean by the last statement is that their normal personalities are dominate and passive. YU is shy & reserved. Sam has natural leadership qualities. YU will defer to Sam, but Sam is not an attention hog so he pulls YU in. The more supportive Sam is to YU, the more he opens up with him in public. YU also, naturally, wants Sam's praise since he's a newbie so he works harder for it, and tries to fit with Sam by pushing himself to be more extroverted than he would normally. The personality combo between them is BL Gold for the rest of us. This level of professionalism and care of their drama and the fans that support it are high quality compared to many. ;)
The cast was on a live that you can watch here and I'm sure someone will eventually translate:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0FnOI9QdK4Here…
I think the thing that shocked me the most was how YU was, at first, wonder where Sam was going with his sales pitch, but once he realized what was happening, he naturally turned his head towards Sam like it was just a common practice between the two. Seeing him smile and get excited afterward and go for more was even more unexpected.
You don't get this much fanservice that doesn't feel forced and cringe but a natural part of their pairing like this that often, tbh. ;)
So, you are for the death penalty for every human being that commits an assault for whatever reason?I mean, I…
Wow. You're pretty aggressive with your language.
1) I fail to see where I defended a thing.
2) I questioned your idea of a "off with his head" instead of an eye for an eye.
3) My idea of believing and hoping and supporting the concept of rehabilitation as well as punishment is held by many within the UN. Violence to counteract violence seems very hypocritical to me:
So, you are for the death penalty for every human being that commits an assault for whatever reason?
I mean, I don't know how many nations worldwide have these kinds of laws, but that's not the law in South Korea. Obviously, public condemnation was too much for this man to bear so he jumped to his death.
Humane people would rather these people be rehabilitated and taught that violence is not the answer instead. But who am I to question violence for violence sake.
There are those who still do believe an eye for an eye is a thing... but not too many would say a head for an eye. That's actually a violent sentiment in and of itself that's unsettling to hear from someone who claims to hate "abusers".
Let's be real, the kids are biologically her & her husband's, not the surrogate mothers. She just wanted to have a secret marriage & kids without the public scrutiny, which would happen if she started showing. If she had done both, marriage & kids, in the light of day, the situation regarding the kids would be no different. The fact that either of these 2, who are not poor, are thinking of giving away the kids is the height of irresponsibility, regardless. The kids have done nothing wrong, and parents are responsible. I understand those people, in situations that make it impossible to care for the children, but simply being inconvenienced is not enough.
I'm not passing judgment on the lifestyles these 2 choose to have, but anyone who says, it's their business what they do with the kids, are likely the very people that those who exploit and abuse children in any form or manner need to get away with what they do. As a mother and parent, I have every right to voice my concern about dependent children who have no voice or rights to protect themselves and live a decent life being treated so cavalierly by adults who should know better.
Okay, let's all put this in perspective. They're just trying to milk your anticipation and hype for all it's worth. OG was 3 eps @ 30 min = 90 mins total for the drama. That allotted time hasn't changed. It's just now it's 9 eps @ 10 min = 90 mins. If you wait until it finishes airing, you can marathon it the same way no matter how they split the episodes up. lol.
I have watched the American version of the drama called "Night of" which aired on HBO. I have not watched the…
I haven’t watched either the BBC or HBO versions but since people are making claims, in order to remove any personal bias for or against; I think it’s best to have a real outlook based on the metrics.
“Critical reception for Night Of:
The Night Of received critical acclaim. On Metacritic, it has a score of 90%, indicating "universal acclaim" based on 40 reviews. It has a score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 8.6/10 based on 62 reviews; its consensus reads, "The Night Of is a richly crafted, exquisitely performed mystery that will keep viewers enthralled and leave them devastated."
IGN reviewer Jesse Schedeen gave the entire miniseries an 8.9 out of 10 'Great' score, writing "With only a couple of exceptions, this summer hasn't been the greatest when it comes to new TV series, which makes The Night Of's brief run all the more special. This limited series did little to shake up the formula when it (comes to) crime dramas, but it was distinguished by its amazing cast and the pervasive tension that drove the series from start to finish.”

The female lead in the comic is half Uyghurs even though she looks more Han Chinese compared to Uyghurs Chinese.…
100% spot on. Also, 100% agree.
I starting to believe the racist comments towards Reba stem from jealousy because she’s so gorgeous, and come off as a sweetheart, then co-stars with some of the hottest actors, and they all really like her and maintain a friendship after working with her.
She almost didn't want to act in costume dramas anymore after those comments.... until someone encouraged her.…
Feel so sad for her tbh. She seriously doesn't deserve the negative comments, and appearance shaming she gets because she doesn't fit the "traditional" Chinese look. Frankly, I pawn it off as Chinese citizens have no problems with being open and downright abusive towards their racist hatred of Uyghurs, and it's sad how little attention this fact gets in worldwide public media. =/
She has already done many historical costume dramas, though. Any idea why some people are suddenly complaining?…
It's because of the cult following of this manhua is pretty vocal. You can read below some of the more realistic complaints, such as age gap between leads and Reba looking stronger than Leo which doesn't fit the plot, etc. This complaining on Chinese forums/websites regarding the cast is much nastier than what you'll read her. The outright say she looks like an ugly foreigner and needs to be pulled from casting or they're planning on downvoting the drama rating on various sites to make the drama look like trash. It's the saddest BS you'll ever read.
