Well, I don't want to use this as a diss fest. I give credit to Thai BL because they've really brought so many to mainstream that other Asian nations want to get in on the "money-making" that comes with it. Let's be honest, these guys are great salesmen and likely make these production companies, and their sponsors lots of dough. So, we benefit from more dramas that in turn making it more mainstream. It's honestly why I think South Korea has gotten into the game producing much more mainstream than they have ever done.
Also, we must acknowledge that India, Hong Kong, Japan, & Cambodia are the *only* Asian nations that even recognize gay partnerships or cohabitiation. In the Philippines, Japan, Nepal, India, Bhutan having pending legislation on Same Sex marriage, but Taiwan is the ONLY nation in Asia, at all, to have legalized Same Sex Marriage. Heck, a lot of Eurasia nations outright ban it, including Russia. So, what I'm saying is that it is definitely easier to be natural about in a nationwide community that doesn't stereotype or social stigmatize a straight guy who would play this kind of role.

Like how when Sam gets shy and can't think of anything to say he hops on Yu's bed without asking. Then when fans call him on it, he's like, '...what stranger..." lol. Or when Yu actually called Sam by Gao Shi De in a cute way and they get all giddy. In fact, Sam pointed that out how they're all like little girls giggling together. hahaha.
The two really did develop a unique bond with each other. It's quite refreshing to see these 2 give 2 shits about how it comes across. This kind of sincere fanservice I can appreciate. Others are so cringe for their #tryhard you just have to look away. Here, it just makes you smile & giggle along with them. ;)

Let me give a disclaimer, all the BL couples, in this drama, went through the training, and in the studio they were in classes together, similar to how the Thai BL teams work on chemistry. However, it appears that Yu & Sam went above and beyond to make sure they developed proper chemistry for this series:

The PD for this drama made a lot of statements about all the prep they did with these 2 to get them acclimated with each other before shooting.
I don't speak Chinese so I'm just going off what I gathered from what others were saying but it looked like they had the 2 move into YU's place for a while and then in studio they had them doing a bunch of games and interactions. I'm aware that Thai BL teams do the same thing but it just seems that Sam & YU were really ultra-professional and motivated to work on their interactions to make it as seamless and natural as possible. So, I suspect it's a combo of a couple things, namely, they're both actually good actors, and their personalities, thankfully, really mesh well. What I mean by the last statement is that their normal personalities are dominate and passive. YU is shy & reserved. Sam has natural leadership qualities. YU will defer to Sam, but Sam is not an attention hog so he pulls YU in. The more supportive Sam is to YU, the more he opens up with him in public. YU also, naturally, wants Sam's praise since he's a newbie so he works harder for it, and tries to fit with Sam by pushing himself to be more extroverted than he would normally. The personality combo between them is BL Gold for the rest of us. This level of professionalism and care of their drama and the fans that support it are high quality compared to many. ;)

It's because of the cult following of this manhua is pretty vocal. You can read below some of the more realistic complaints, such as age gap between leads and Reba looking stronger than Leo which doesn't fit the plot, etc. This complaining on Chinese forums/websites regarding the cast is much nastier than what you'll read her. The outright say she looks like an ugly foreigner and needs to be pulled from casting or they're planning on downvoting the drama rating on various sites to make the drama look like trash. It's the saddest BS you'll ever read.
I cannot believe how much hate this is already getting by Chinese netizens. They legit are saying, without shame, that they're planning on reviewing it badly, BEFORE EVEN WATCHING IT, because they either don't care for Reba's acting style; think she looks too European; think she looks too American; looks not suitable to a Chinese TV series; just don't want her to star in this because she's not worth of the role; among some of the other comments that have been listed.
