I watch very few Chinese dramas.Do any of you find it annoying that they practically play the whole drama in the…
Anyone who regularly watches C-Dramas knows that you skip the first 2 minutes if you’re not interested in spoilers, and don’t watch the ending. It’s a choice. lol. It’s very rare for a C-Drama to not have spoiler intro and credits.
So did they just skip the fact that Taejoo stil has a girlfriend, he was kissing her in the 3rd episode?? and…
WTF? No he doesn't. He never did. In fact, Kang Gook didn't give Hyemi his real phone number. In episode 2, Tae Joo gave it to her and when she called, Tae Joo told Kang Gook, "It's a gift...I'm telling you to go ahead and experiment everything you want." That's a very CLEAR message. On top of this, you already know from the beginning of episode 1 that Tae Joo is a playa because why do you think Pil Hyun and his friends were chasing him to kick his ass? It's because Tae Joo fooled around with 3 of the girls Pil Hyun was interested in dating. Why did Pil Hyun hit Tae Joo? Because he teased him about playing around with them without being seriously involved at all. Lastly, in episode 3, when you see Tae Joo kiss the girl that just shows up at his home with a box of things Tae Joo bought for her, before she drops the box on the ground and hits Tae Joo, she legit tells him, "How can you treat my friend like this? Even our gifts are the same." This CLEARLY indicates that he was playing around with both her and her friend and it's obvious from his attitude that he does this a lot and gets away with it because they know he is a chaebol. Thus, even after hitting him for being a jerk, he was still able to kiss her without her objection. He's telling Kang Gook to do the same, play around but don't be serious... because you can only truly care about me.
That is unclear. No one knows, also is it really jiujitsu? At first glance it looks like judo to me :D
I have a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo. My son has a 3rd degree. Although I wasn't required, for testing, to do any jiu jitsu, we were still required to train in the form for advanced self defense. The only requirement for taekwondo was forms, sparring, & weapons. Sparring isn't ground combat. you do it standing...but for advanced techniques they teach this AND you have the separate uniform for it, AND you have a separate belt ranking for it as well.
Let me break it down: Kang Guk is wearing the traditional white gi/dobok for taekwondo. Tae Jo is wearing the traditional blue uniform for jiu jitsu. In fact, the patch on Tae Jo's arm legit says, "ATAMA Jiu Jitsu". lol. When you are in the guard, i.e. body over the person your attacking while they have their legs wrapped around your waist, that is a dead give away for jiu jitsu. Triangles [head between legs squeezing] or arm bars are jiu jitsu. With Judo you start from a standing position, and you're working to not do any "rolling" or "ground" combat. Additionally, for scoring points in sparring in taekwondo it's for kicking the chest and/or head, not below the belt or in the arms. SO.... What these boys are doing is jiu jitsu sparring.
Also, if you didn't notice, they are both purple belts which means they are still learning, and they are mid-tier level combatants.
Let's just say, if there is a S3, Dr. Kang won't be there. Sorry, he's moved on to Yulje Medical Center, where he's received a much higher rating as a doctor, and has a new love interest. He never once considered a S2 with Dr. Kim but he's already renewed his contract with Yulje Medical Center.
In fact, in episode 1, it was quite clear by what was said, that Dr. Yoon & Dr. Kang have broken up. I heard that loud and clear. As tight as this group is, if they were still together, they'd have referenced that, AND the potential of them returning...but that wasn't stated. That Master Kim loses "young talent" was what was stated, and I made note of that after watching episode 1.
And the idea that Dr. Kang and Dr. Do got together, well maybe they still have contact but she's in the USA for the next few years, in school, at a minimum, and besides, her alter ego will be too busy with a timeslip, not scheduled for take off until the end of the year @ 100 x 1hr20min, to a Korea run by Japanese Imperialists to date Dr. Do anyway.
Dr. Kim fans will just have to be happy with Dr. Cha and Dr. Seo alone and likely have to wait another 3 years to boot.
Victim blaming 101 -- people go to great lengths to defend rapists.
So, w/e evidence to the contrary, any woman who accuses a man means the man is automatically guilty. Plus, his attempt or anyone else's attempt to refute and defend themselves against the charges are automatically "victim blamers".
Yep, there are victims. Yep, there are those who victim blame. Yep, there are those who are guilty. But there are also false accusations, and guys who aren't truly guilty of the crime.
I'll let South Koreans speak for the FACTS in this situation. South Korea is a pretty straightforwardly conservative country when it comes to these things. Sex trafficking, molka abuse, pornography, prostitution, and the like are all under the surface and exist, yes. However, the citizens at large do not take kindly to these things out in the public. In the current era, being caught treating a woman like trash will get you banished, & ostracized from community life. You'd better hide your face and never be acknowledged in public or citizens will have no fear to openly and publicly humiliate you.
Even more so, when it comes to celebrities at any level. They are held to an even HIGHER standard than the rest of us. Even a small infraction can completely destroy their career and very few are ever forgiven to grace themselves as a public entertainer ever again. There's a laundry list of men who have been accused of far smaller crimes than Park Shi Hoo who no longer are viable entertainers.
The fact that only 4 years after such a HUGE scandal, TV networks like KBS & Chosun are hiring him for their dramas speaks volumes to the validity of the woman's accusations and his guilt, especially in the South Korean #MeToo era. No network would want the drama of a scandal overshadowing their production time and time again. If the woman's case was verified, the public would never let him hear the end of it every time he showed his face on camera, regardless of if she received a payout or not. End of story.
Since everyone has moved on years ago.... so should the rest of us.
Watch the drama or not.... but don't use something that happened 7 years ago to trash something that involves far more than ONE MAN. The other actors, and the production crew, deserve to have their work acknowledged despite anyone's grudge over something that doesn't even affect them personally that tries to trash their hardwork and good efforts. The drama isn't about Park Shi Ho, but the ENTIRE CAST. So, get over it already.

This is the problem with Covid-19. It seeks out the weak and vulnerable and destroys.
As his sister said, please stay healthy, especially if you have comorbidities. He had been fighting this for a while, and who knows what the true results would have been if it wasn't for this disease. It's so disheartening these days. Stay vigilant and careful of yourselves and your family.
May Park Ji Hoon rest in peace and his family be consoled through each other and the love of their friends and loved ones.
I don’t think I’ll be watching this BECAUSE I don’t want to support “drama”. The ones who OFFICIALLY created all the controversy are the ones who said, This or That in the public sphere. Those who kept a smile on their face, sucked it up, kept quiet except when in situations, due to professionalism, needing to answer a question, but never with any shade happen to not be a part of this project. The others who have something to say about everything, stirring the pot every time they open their mouths, fanning the flames of This or That fandom are still around controlling the strings.
Frankly, I’m very happy to see someone so very young able to move on and navigate the situation with dignity and grace. He reminds me of my own son. For those who want to cut+copy+paste an interview to push an agenda that says that grown ass men acting more like children, starting drama against teenagers new to their occupation, and potentially harming their careers didn’t have an agenda of their own going into Season 2, that’s your business.
BUT...

Let’s NOT forget that he said BEFORE this comment: ~”I think if they want me to take part in the series, they would’ve contacted me before finishing the teaser.”~ There is NO WAY Saint was going to put himself back into the same position he got out of. He realized that the offer was only made because No Fandom=No Success. If there’s no sincerity in it, you know EXACTLY what you’re in for next.
Pretty grateful that he’s grown up and matured over this well. He’s not holding animosity. He gave them the soundbite they were looking for, and I have totes respect for this kind of class at his age! Besides, with his last BL drama, he’s showed the rest of them what your production is missing out on if the partners aren’t willing to invest in being part of the creative process and giving it all they have for their character, and having a director that’s completely invested in their cast. Supporting toxic productions does nothing to promote healthy BL drama depictions for the future. We don’t need problematic OTPs on-screen OR off-screen.... and some of these relationships are pretty freaking questionable. Right?
Yeah, I was all about the cheese and it was such a NEEDED reprieve from everything I'm dealing with living in California at the time I watched this.... Timing being right, I gave this a 10/10. Don't "at" me on it!
I have a LOT of them : **South Korea & Thai in spoiler reply for those interested.. LMFAO.. otherwise it would be an endless stream of links!!**

Hi,I don't think writing is lazy.On the contrary, it has become very sophisticated, very detailed, very elaborate. At…
I gave Hotel Del Luna a 7/10 for the very fact that it was, to me, very lazy writing. Most of the backstory was filler. It repeated the same scenes multiple times in multiple episodes and added very little in substance to the plot even when changing POV or perspectives. It's very reminiscent of how Chinese dramas do flashbacks to make a drama go from 30 episodes to 60-70. What I'm saying is that, at the beginning it hinted at this great character development that was supposed to happen, and, in the end, there really wasn't much to her backstory.
This is what I wrote a month ago regarding rating it a 7: [Start]"...I watched to the very end hoping to feel relief at what I was experiencing as a wholly anti-climatic ending in the last 3 episodes but, alas, it didn't really happen. The ending was deflating.
My wish was they'd resolve the side characters a bit earlier, and clear up the reasonings for them being there sooner. Additionally, I wasn't really impressed with the resolution of her 1,000 year grudge.
The OTP was fine, but towards the end, even they lacked substance to their relationship.
It seemed like the drama went adrift and stammered around trying to figure out how it was gonna resolve everything. The poetic phrases to answer clear questions made absolutely no sense, and things just took place willy-nilly and nothing followed a universal law so why some could do one thing but others couldn't just made me confused. I wish it was much clearer in expressing the premises..." [End]
And as far as scripts only becoming more "elaborate", "sophisticated", & "detailed" recently, but "less inspired" seems off to my experience. Maybe you started watching K-dramas only recently? Or haven't watched as many as I have.
My "ALL TIME" stats are 13,617 episodes, 712 shows, & 240 movies, and there's likely some I missed to rate from between 2001-2006 that I watched. I remember quite a few older dramas quite fondly. They were both elaborate, detailed, the premise fully fleshed out, inspirational, & with the case of "romance", a passionate OTP.
I'll give you my examples of dramas I ranked from 8/10 to 10/10 back in the more *recent* history for you to ponder:
2011 & 2012: 1. Scent of a Woman, 2. City Hunter, 3. Arang and the Magistrate, 4. Queen In Hyun's Man, 5. Operation Proposal, and 6. Faith.
2013: 1. You Who Came from the Stars, 2. Two Weeks, 3. Nine: Nine Times Time Travel, 4. I Hear Your Voice, 5. The Master's Sun, and 6. Who Are You
2014: 1. Healer, 2. Incomplete Life 3. It's Okay, That's Love, 4. Pride & Prejudice, and 5. Pinocchio
2015: 1. Kill Me, Heal Me, 2. The Girl Who Sees Scents, and 3. Oh My Ghostess
2016: 1. A Beautiful Mind, & 2. Bring It On, Ghost
2017: 1. Circle, 2. Tomorrow With You, 3. While You Were Sleeping, 4. Chicago Typewriter, and 5. Black
Do you notice a pattern there??? I would say that a bit into 2015, the writing in K-dramas started to take a bit of a nosedive. Although I have a fair amount of dramas listed, I still do NOT think dramas in the last 5 years are AS elaborate, sophisticated, detailed, inspirational, passionate, and MOST IMPORTANTLY -- ENJOYABLE TO WATCH...than these dramas in more recent history. Nowadays you're hard pressed to find a show you're willing to stay up all night ONE MORE TIME, just to marathon REWATCHING it again, just to get back those Old School vibes. lol.
I think you're going to get a consistent repeat of the same statements from a majority of the people:
SAME!
We ALL used to stay up to all hours of the night then dragging are dead asses to work the next day because we just needed to know what happened next and couldn't stop ourselves. In the last 2 years, I think I've only done that a handful of times, and ironically, it was for Chinese dramas. I don't have had that kind of motivation for any K-drama since 2017.
It's seriously hard to pin-point it exactly. I think it's a bit of a mix bag, and different people hang their hats on different things.
One thing I can say, it's not because K-Dramas have become predictable or cliche. If that was the case, then I wouldn't marathon all night any Chinese dramas.
What for me seem to be the issues are really seriously lazy writing, muted romance or even non-existent romance, unsatisfying OTPs, bad acting, focus on Idol actors, and too serious of topics. They're not as light and airy as the used to be. I want sugar, and my OTPs should want sugar as well. Those romantic intense moments just aren't there as often anymore, or they gloss over the process.
Some people are saying that the imagination is "finite" or that every aspect of a story has been told already. Well, I don't agree the imagination is "finite", just like I don't believe wealth is "finite" or the universe is "finite.
What I will say that is "similar" is human nature. We've been told about the 7 Deadly Sins because, for the most part, evil/cruel/callous acts by humans pretty much stem from aspects of these. There are also various similarities between love and relationships. However, no human being has ever been exactly like another, so there will always be some divergence in plot.
So, what I'm saying is that I could come up with some "new" murder/mystery/suspense stories just by things that have happened irl. Humans are so infinite in their character makeup and motivations that they create stories that are most times better than fiction. In the USA, as an example, if you created a story of a Doomsday advocating couple vacationing in Hawaii while the rest of their family and Americans look for the children, and the accompanying drama and mystery that unfold when the fact this couple don't feel inclined to let even police authorities know where their "missing" children are at the moment, all I could think was, "this would make a fine movie...doesn't get more original then this right here...sad but true..."
Let's not take this in a negative way. When was the last time an American movie was nominated and awarded a Baeksang Arts Award for Best Film? The Oscars are an American awards ceremony, and quite frankly, all things considering, fairly INCLUSIVE rather than EXCLUSIVE in its makeup. Let's, please, NOT discount that. This isn't the UN deciding who is the World's Best Filmmaker.
As for "Disney" & "ABC" "dominating" viewership, that's honestly NOT true. The stat I'm talking about is for the person, the individual, the man himself, Walt Disney. His last Oscar was in 1959 for "Live Action Short" -- Grand Canyon, before he passed away in 1966. Over his lifetime he won 22 Academy Awards, and based on how many Disney films are translated in just about every language and beloved by millions the world over even into this day and age, it was deserved...
I only pointed out that Bong Joon Ho is the only other INDIVIDUAL, person, man, to accomplish an historical record comparable to Walt Disney himself. I'm not talking about corporations, so that rant has no place here.
Thanks for the fun read.
More of these please! =)
I thought it was crystal clear frankly.
Let me break it down: Kang Guk is wearing the traditional white gi/dobok for taekwondo. Tae Jo is wearing the traditional blue uniform for jiu jitsu. In fact, the patch on Tae Jo's arm legit says, "ATAMA Jiu Jitsu". lol. This is what I wrote a month ago regarding rating it a 7:
[Start]"...I watched to the very end hoping to feel relief at what I was experiencing as a wholly anti-climatic ending in the last 3 episodes but, alas, it didn't really happen.
Nowadays you're hard pressed to find a show you're willing to stay up all night ONE MORE TIME, just to marathon REWATCHING it again, just to get back those Old School vibes. lol.
