A LOT of American entertainment and media elites were actually shocked by this, especially when it dawned on them that, in his first ever running for Oscars, Bong Joon Ho tied Walt Disney's record of most Oscars awarded in ONE NIGHT.

It's hard enough to win an Oscar, American entertainers will tell you, let alone to earn the TRIPLE CROWN - Screenplay, Director, & Film. But 4 for one person is a feat of more than historical proportions.. this is beyond just history-making for South Korea... this became U.S. history-making as well.

How can you say you watched 18 episodes out of 17 episodes and completed this and review it? The drama isn't even over yet. Next time, in the essence of fairness, please consider acknowledging EXACTLY how many episodes you have ACTUALLY watched at the point you made your review, so everyone can have a better understanding of what you can truly KNOW about how good this drama is and to what point. It's the considerate thing to do.

Well, the Kenshin trilogy is based on actual swordfighters that existed in history; and historical accounts talk about great practiced swordfighters having accomplished feats like this. Being this is a historical, it actual is realistic, and why they are leaders. They get those positions from the practice, experience, and successes they've obtained from their youth into adulthood.

Additionally, you might watch this professional explanation about the idea of 1 vs multiple opponents and the concept of the Law of Diminishing Returns. Having a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo myself, and a son with a 3rd degree, and tell you with practice and experience, regular fighting is an act of controlled chaos and the more experience and control you have of the situation the better your outcoming, and that doesn't automatically mean that more people attacking will ALWAYS overpower the ones weaker in number. That's entirely dependent on variable factors, like their practice and skill level in similar situations. It's certain that no outcome is secure, but the better trained and experienced you are, regardless of numbers, gives you a higher percentage chance of success.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s7KfetTixQ

wtf? are u defending him?
Don't try to play ignorant. Don't try to say that he was JUST friends with him; didn't know what they were doing so couldn't report them to the police for rape; and that he didn't participate. He WATCHED the rape videos. He admitted it. And then he CONTINUED to ask them to send HIM girls he could have sex with for himself. He didn't care about the female victims, he wanted them to send him females he could "play with" himself. Stop acting like he's an innocent dupe...there's a reason why he FINALLY quit CNBlue! Because he was trolling social media streaming sites for girls to hit up after he said he'd "reflect" on not acting so misogynistic in the future, while he's in the military!! He's supposed to be quietly doing his duty, not trying to hook up with women...and SOUTH KOREANS were upset about finding out about it that he agreed to leave the band and quit entertaining altogether.

He ACKNOWLEDGES his OWN wrongdoings! Why can't you!!!??!!!

They gonna be leads together in another drama series? Which one?
I wasn't saying they were going to be in a drama "together" but that they were going to be lead actors in a drama. This quote is from 2 years ago and her drama was a bit delayed from when it was supposed to originally air due to CGI editing. The drama I was referring to was 'Are You Human Too?' His drama I was referring to was That Man Oh Soo. Regrettably, I'd rather forget this comment, and Lee Jong Hyun and his acting/singing all together, frankly.

wtf? are u defending him?
You are defending a man who referred to Jung Joon Young as his "best friend". A man who wrote in the chatrooms, “Let’s all get together online, hit the strip bar and rape them in the car.” and where other members responded, “Our lives are like a movie. We have done so many things that could put us in jail. We just haven’t killed anyone." Lee Jong Hyun's label mate Choi Jong Hoon, from FTIsland, and Jung Joon Young were charged with gang-raping a girl, an act that they filmed and shared. Lee Jong Hyun openly admits that he viewed the shared videos. After seeing a video of a girl being gang raped, this man continued his friendship with him and, as we know from reports, asked him to send him girls "to play with" and that they "preferably" be "ones you haven't **** yet." He spoke about women in misogynistic terms and, based on the conversations we know full well that when he asked Jung Joon Young to "send me women quick" he meant the women he can sexually abuse easily like Jung Joon Young does. After this scandal came to light he said he would "reflect" on his behavior in the military, he wasn't even able to wait but a few months before being outed by a female where he was sliding into DMs/PMs sexually trolling for female YouTube streamers. His inability to even keep his behind the scenes trolling on wraps caused him to finally have to quit CNBlue, and essentially ended his career. He did that ALL on his own.

As for no one being found guilty, as you suggest, that's not true anymore now is it? As of November 29, 2019, Jung Joon Young was given a 6 year prison sentence and Choi Jong Hoon was given a 5 year prison sentence for their part in a gang-rape of a girl that they videotaped and which Jung Joon Young distributed to his "friends". Anyone who watches a CRIME such as gang-rape; knows the perpetrators; has the ability to discover the victim's identity; stays silent; and asks those people to send him girls he can have sex with is one thing and one thing only, a complicit sexual predator who thinks nothing of these things, and who, if he hasn't done the same thing, at least behind the scenes, condoned those kinds of actions by his friends.

If you like people like this, it most certainly reflects on you as a person and your morals. What you say after this can be weighted against those facts. Your comments have little merit. You can "like" and "support" whoever you want. There are women who seek out serial killers and marry them, for whatever their reasons may be....but normal human beings know that people like that have serious mental issues and nothing of respect to say and offer to the human race.

I have a Bachelor of Science, with a minor in Finance in International Business. Not only did I take Economic Geography, I was required to take Cultural Anthropology. I'm well aware that there are differing cultural norms. But you are sadly misinformed if you believe a sociologist has the end say in cultural morals.

AGAIN, it really bothers me the whole cultural relativism, and there already exist nudist colonies...but CIVILIZED society, in which, YES, there is a difference and the WORLD as a whole differentiate it by calling those not 'THIRD WORLD', have decided long ago, for the respect and dignity of others, especially children, having sex in the streets like dogs is beneath humanity.

ALSO, it bothers me when people who try to tell you how "open-minded" they are, pop off without really FULLY reading the CONTEXT in which things are spoken. The CONTEXT being, there are approx. 241 countries/territories across the global. The United Nations OFFICIALLY recognizes 195, 193 of which are MEMBERS of the UN. Of those MEMBERS they have all agreed to sign the Universal Declaration of Human Rights...in doing so they have AGREED on THIS:

"....Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction...."

Thailand has agreed INTERNATIONALLY, as well as NATIONALLY that RAPE is a crime against humanity, and a criminal act within its own borders. Those ideas are enumerated in Thailand's Penal Code -- Thailand's Criminal Code Sections 0276-0281..but in a nutshell, if you RAPE someone and are convicted you're going to jail for between 4-20 years. ADDITIONALLY, WITHIN THE CULTURE OF THAILAND, enumerated in these CRIMINAL LAWS, it doesn't matter if there is consent, it's ALSO considered RAPE for a person of age to have sex with anyone under the age of 15!! Those are THAILAND'S LAWS... so I don't know who is telling you that Thailand ACCEPTS RAPE simply because their entertainment industry tries to portray it in some positive way... I'm AMERICAN and THIS is the reason I don't like watching WESTERN entertainment!! PERIOD!! Because the portrayal of immorality as unproblematic. It's been why I prefer to watch Asian dramas/movies because CULTURALLY that's not tolerated as much. Thailand's lakorns are an anomaly in this way. People in the nation like it, and it sells...just like HBO's Sopranos was a big hit and culturally those kinds of people exist in the USA-- mafia...but that doesn't make it NORMAL, ACCEPTABLE, or LEGAL.

This, this in a total nutshell! Morals are not a cultural phenomenon but a HUMAN phenomenon! Violence, humiliation, degradation, slavery, dehumanization are something the world as a WHOLE have said are abhorrent in ANY civilized society! Is Thailand NOT a part of the United Nations? Are Asian nations, along with their CULTURE, not a part of the decision making within in the UN? What kind of craziness is this to say, "Western culture" doesn't understand the VALUE of rape?? All countries in the world that are a part of the UN abide by the laws of Human Rights agreed to as a WHOLE, and overseen by the World Court, in The Hague! It is a RARE country indeed that doesn't have laws against sexual assault OR rape, and Thailand is NO EXCEPTION to that rule! They are written in Thailand's Criminal Code Sections 0276-0281, and rape will get you 4 to 20 years in jail! Not only that, but Thailand has even recently addressed its own issues with child exploitation and human trafficking along with sexual assault! Thailand, within its OWN culture have Human Rights Groups that address this stuff, including MOLKA video, etc. The idea that Thailand is a Rape Culture where everyone agrees its just part of its makeup is ridiculous...and that's EXACTLY what is INSINUATED by the statement accusing someone of being "Self Conscious about rape"...like what is that even??? along with that being a "western" idea only???? NO DEAR, IT'S A HUMAN IDEA that EVEN applies in Thailand, whether you like it or not!!

@Skye-N-Rain regardless of the criticism, I'm very happy that you guys are going into this direction to attract attention, engage the users in dialogue, and bring people together. To me, the video is straightforward and akin to any average Top List on YouTube. I'm sure any Content Creator could have ideas on how to further improve it, and offer pertinent suggestions, but for me, as a standard YouTube subscriber [yes, I subscribed to the channel a while ago] this works just fine for me!

I hope that MDLers can understand and appreciate this effort for what it is worth, and I acknowledge you taking the factual data stats inputted by the users, knowing that this list could, and mostly would, *not* be in particular agreement to your own personal preferences. It is what it is -- =)

"It's a shame" that other people don't share your personal preferences? "darker dramas are the best"? That last…
I'd rather say neither one of you guys had a very positive approach to offering your opinion. Opinions are subjective and personal. They shouldn't be conditional on the validations of others, period. Personal preference come from a variety of "environmental" factors, upbringing, and experiences.

But let's be clear here, using the term "shame" is just that, shaming people. It's not a positive sentiment, and is apt to trigger some people who are more sensitive to being criticized...and frankly, shaming someone is just that, criticizing them. You're legit saying, I know you have an opinion but mine is far superior to yours...or you wouldn't say, "...it's a shame..." about other people's choices.

There's a way to give your opinion on what you like without calling out others for their opposing likes. If you don't want to trigger people in the future, and since "English is not" your "first language", please read the following to understand why someone might have took offense to the statement.... No judgement here, just pointing out a more pleasant way for everyone to share their ideas without it degenerating into some argument and critique about the ethnicity and/or nationality of people on this site.

This review through me off. That 1st sentence sounded as if you're saying that Liu Shishi and David Tong are married to each other. Liu Shishi is married to Nicky Wu and David is married to Guan Yue. This was actually filmed in 2015-16 when Nicky and Shishi first got married. They registered the marriage first then had the ceremony the following year, actually, AFTER this drama was completed. David was already married with kids. David ending up being a groomsman in their wedding.

If that report is correct, they should be charged
I don't know how true it is, but based on what some Chinese people are saying online, this show has been forcing their co-stars to over exert themselves for a while... I read "..the unine guy (zhenning?) was out of breath after the competiton and had to take oxygen in the ambulance, wenjun threw up, another star also threw up twice..."
Ceki Nov 28, 2019
Whoever commented that the reality show is going to take full responsibility?--Damn right, and it's the least they can do.

The reports are as follows:
"...Gao appeared to have a cold the day of his death, yet worked a 17-hour day from when the shoot began on Tuesday at 8:30AM until he collapsed while running at almost 2AM the next day. He shouted out “I can’t go on” before he fell, according to online comments from those who said they had witnessed the scene..."

There is no excuse for working someone like this, EVER! Even if entertainment work differing hours, there should be some sort of standard. This is like slave labor! Let me put it to you this way, China has many online accounts of boys at internet cafes playing for hours and dropping dead...and that's just sitting! This was 17 hours with strenuous activity, AND HE HAD A COLD! He should have been in bed resting...but obviously, by his own words, felt pressured to complete his obligations...and that there are comments stating that co-workers on the set thought he was faking it being a "Drama Queen"??? These production companies need to change their attitudes. A young life has been tragically lost when it didn't have to happen like this at all!!
