"Around" means just that, it's an estimate based on past experiences. The Japanese movie industry doesn't release the DVD for a movie until about 6 months after it aired in theaters. You will not get subtitles until a clean DVD version of the movie becomes available to the subbers. You have to give the subbers time to decide to pick it up and then doing the editing. There is no guarantee any Japanese subbers will pick it up either...so...
Did we watch the same movie ?It's not a tragic and depressing movie but on the contrary it's about hope, second…
Telling me you respect my opinion but then tell me I "got everything completely wrong" is quite disingenuous. Calm your anger over someone who watched the movie and disagreed with your perspective. If you want to review this and give a different perspective, by all means, I'm not going to dissuade you nor argue with you over it. Your perspective is just that, YOUR perspective.
Me watching this and finding her unlikable and the movie dreary is how I felt and I don't have to justify that to you or anyone else. I didn't tell anyone not to watch it, I just described how the movie made me feel and I stand by it, and my right to feel that way... Your feelings don't trump my feelings. My feelings are just as valid and important as yours even if you think yours are more valuable and you want to attack me over your right to have more valuable opinions to mine.
I suggest in the future, rather than challenging and attacking another person's views that you just provide your perspective, and let others do the same, and the people who want to see reviews or comments before watching read them all and decide for themselves. No one is right or wrong. It's just one person's perspective versus another's. Both are valid.... I hope in the future you can appreciate that fact.
I am straight up gonna say this because most of the comments are focused solely on Korean drama content but for me, DramaFever was NOT my go-to app for these dramas... What they were my go-to for was all the great Chinese Dramas!!! DO PEOPLE REALIZE HOW HARD IT IS TO GET CHINESE DRAMAS THAT ARE FULLY SUBBED???
Let's take Secrets of Three Kingdoms, which I was watching on DramaFever at the time they shut it down. I was on episode 34 of 54. Now, I can hop over to Viki and, YES, it has the channel for this drama. It ONLY has 40 episodes uploaded AND of those 40 ONLY 24 episodes are fully subbed. THIS has always been my problem with Viki, even if you pay for a subscription. Unlike DramaFever, the translators are ALL volunteers. Nothing wrong with volunteers, BUT they are completely unreliable. What were people willing to pay DF for??? To INSURE that they'd get a COMPLETELY SUBBED DRAMA. There is nothing more heartbreaking to a Chinese drama lover than to have subbers start a project only to get disinterested and drop it midway through and leave you hanging. YEAH, I'VE HEARD THE BITCHING ABOUT, "THEY ARE VOLUNTEERS WITH THEIR OWN LIVES TO LIVE..." FINE, nobody is denying them that, AND THAT'S WHY WE WANTED DF !!! To pay the translators a salary and get the CONTENT we want!!!
I would NEVER start a drama on Viki without FIRST knowing that they completed all the subbing. I've been burned one too many times.. and relying on the Chinese translators to get licensing and complete the subbing of dramas over at Viki is not something I would ever do. SO.... Now, if you want a fully completed, 60-70 episode Chinese historical or wuxia drama that's subbed, we now have even LESS places to go to get them... forget Korean dramas... someone is always gonna complete them and sub them..that's the bread and butter of Asian dramaland... but Thai, or Chinese is a WHOLE other issue... and this is the part where losing DF is such a heart wrenching thing to me!
You might face legal problems if you host shows that are not licensed. Kissasian was fines 1 million dollars because…
Man, all the negative feedback saying, "...you cannot do this..." "..you cannot do that..." WTH? How did Viki and DF start in the first place???? Do these people even KNOW how it started??? It was started by two Korean businessmen who were able to go out and get $12 million in investment income and acquired licensing. These guys even won Business of the Year awards in 2010 by the Korean Ministry of Culture. They weren't bought out until 2014!!
Do people realize that the Korean government is promoting its culture to the world at all??? Why would they shun innovative individuals promoting Asian only content in favor of big American corporations who are creating their own platforms with a small section for Asian dramas that aren't just Korean??? Are you kidding me??
Again, what about Viki??? Viki was started up by 2 Koreans and an Egyptian-American!! How did they get their start??? The same way DF did, they pitched their company and got funding from a venture capitalist coompany... they also weren't bought out until 2014!!
So, no, it's not impossible... It will take upwards of several million dollars to launch after the actual product has been produced and pitched to folks willing to invest in it.. but it's NOT impossible. It will take connection, effort, and dedication, but it's NOT impossible.
what is really going to piss me off is when they move the content to another streaming site with a butt load of…
This is EXACTLY why they did it.. to justify charging more as well as trying to force feed us content we canceled our cable tv plans over. They're not innovative at all. They're still trying to do the same old crap and buying up the competition to succeed.
Holy Moly, now what? I was watching Secrets of Three Kingdoms and Are You Human Too? on their site not but 4 hours ago, just before I took off to my Korean class. The quality of the shows are so much better than the free streaming sites,
My thinking is that it has become way too expensive for them since they have paid translators, like NetFlix, unlike Viki and the free streaming sites, who get their subs from random volunteers or steal them. Even with subscriptions, it was probably hard to keep up and maintain subscribers.
Freaking sad is all I can say. At this rate, we're gonna lose a lot of ability to get dramas subbed and revert back to the way it was in the early 2000s..which wasn't fun at all searching around for completed subs.
3,029?? LOL. [#29] It's cool to actually see these stats. For me, those edits were a significant labor of love, often times not realizing I spent a whole day, not just inputting stuff, but researching it to do my best to ensure I was being as accurate as possible. I wasn't ever looking for recognition or a pat on the back. It's just cool to see the actual number totals, because, boy, there were many times I said to myself, "...I only meant to do this for a couple hours..." hahaha...
Sometimes, when you're watching a drama with a lot of characters, and a random actor/actress does a good job, but you cannot necessarily recall them and their data, and you go to MDL for reference, only to find it hasn't been updated, well, you just need to take it upon yourself to get it done, instead of expecting others to always volunteer their time. Thank you guys for the acknowledgement. You're awesome as always.
I was one who was gonna watch it but then saw the PressCon and thought "..this OTP has problems.." it makes you think that the chemistry was sure to be off. Then I saw some people who started watching it despite that fact who said that BOTH of them were really good in their roles and that the show was better than average. Made me think I'll pick it up after it is completed and subbed.
Too bad they changed the original storyline in which the two guys are in love...(even the author was pissed about…
Well, the author needs to go to Tienanmen Square and stand up for their product and the government and stop blaming the producers, scriptwriters, editors, and directors for removing gay content themes from their products. Oops... wait.... Like, who really is going to stand up to the Chinese Communist government and dictate to them what the public wants or doesn't want to watch? When did the general public last ever have a voice to make these kinds of changes on their own? The Chinese Censorship Board run by the Communist government of China dictates to its citizens what they can and cannot see on their platforms, PERIOD. You don't get a say. Of course, you can complain ALL you want, but it isn't going to change the fact that, if the product has to go through the Censorship Board, and it includes a gay theme, it won't ever see the light of day under the current rules:
For me the thing that is impressive are these real EPIC upcoming Chinese dramas are being supported and produced by Tencent Penguin Pictures. This is the subsidiary production company that is part of Tencent Pictures' 3 independent production houses, that is focused on "seizing better control of internally-produced dramas, with its roles ranging from IP selection to distribution" rather than feature films. They've been investing in the production of animes and moving towards online platform and studio dramas.
Let's not forget that under the Tencent name includes such things as Riot Games that runs the online MOBA game, League of Legends. Why do I bring that up? Because only a couple of months ago Riot Games won a "SPORTS" emmy for its online production on the Twitch platform for its opening ceremony broadcast of the LoL World Championship Finals held in an arena in China were a halography giant life sized dragon entered into the middle of the arena, then flew out. They were up against some of the best in the industry, including the 2017 NBA Finals, ESPN's College Basketball, & TNT's NBA All-Star Weekend. It was the FIRST time a platform like Twitch and a company like Riot Games had won such an award. What I'm saying is that Tencent wants to be big in the entertainment industry worldwide and in many genres and it's willing to INVEST and PRODUCE the quality things that people are looking to see.
Around this same time last year, Tencent Penguin Pictures had made its announcement of some of the things that were in their pipeline of productions they were looking to distribute and release. This list includes: The Message [remake]; The King's Avatar [Yang Yang lead role]; all the Candle of the Tomb series; See You Again; Only Side By Side With You; The Wolf; Secrets of Three Kingdoms. They've indicated that they're looking to also do Novoland Castle in the Sky 2 & Medical Examiner Dr. Qin 3. More excitement was when they announced they were doing the sequel to Eternal Love, Three Lives, Three Worlds, The Pillow Book.
Then in September the talked about adding Joy of Life and suggesting continuing Luhan's role with New Fighter of the Destiny. Additional titles are: The Golden Eyes, a new version of Prince of Tennis starring pro-tennis player, Li Na, and her husband, Ass9ssins, a remake of The New Story of a Noble Fmaily, a sequel to Chinese Style Relationship, Guardian of Light, The Tibet Code that will also get a movie that will be a Chinese-American co-production, as well as Fights Break Sphere. They also produced the movie with Crystal Liu and FSF, Hanson and the Beast.
Why am I talking about all these dramas on here? Because some of these have already been released and you can get a dang good idea of the difference between an EPIC Chinese drama produced by others versus the ones Tencent is involved with, and the difference paints a picture. If I'm looking at what to watch for a Chinese production, I'm dang well gonna see if Tencent has a hand in it, because chances are, that drama or movie will be better than average with topnotch industry professionals participating and giving it the quality these stories deserve. With every new drama this company has released in the past two years, they are slowly winning me over to their side. Legend of Fu Yao is no different. The reason I'm hopeful that this will be considered an epic Chinese drama IS the fact that Tencent Penguin Pictures was involved in producing it.
Was this dubbed? Because whoever did the male lead's role has such a nice singing voice
The male lead, as well as Lin Sen's character both actually got their start in entertainment via music/singing. The male lead [Fan Shi Qi] has actually starred in the Chinese version of The Voice and won a few variety show singing competitions. He has a record deal as well. He just recently started to transition into acting so that is actually his real voice. You can see some of his LIVE performances on YouTube.
His diagnosis is Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD or OD), according to wiki :/ It's similar but not the same, it…
VERY similar: "...In OCD, the avascular fragment separates from a normal, vascular bony bed beneath a sclerotic rim." "In AVN, the avascular osteochondral surface breaks into multiple fragments and separates from an avascular bed."
OCD usually occurs in the knee and AVN in the hip it seems... additionally, OCD can be curable in adolescence but permanent once it's discovered in adulthood. AVN is genetic not traumatic like OCD, thus, it's not curable at all. Surgery etc is only done to heal the fractures and help with pain reduction.
Very sad case for both of them, frankly. They'll both be suffering through pain for the remainder of their lives. **sigh**
WHOA! Wait. Isn't this kind of what Seo In Guk got diagnosed with that got him released from the military after 5 days when he fractured his ankle? [...Osteochondritis dissecans, also know as OCD, is caused by blood deprivation in the subchondral bone. This loss of blood flow causes the subchondral bone to die in a process called avascular necrosis...] Didn't the netizens give In Guk ssi crap for using this as an "excuse" to get out of service? So, does this mean that he is ALSO in this kind of pain?
FYI:
Release Date November 03, 2018
