Cant agree more!!! The whole aranya dream was terrible!! Watching so many eps about characters I totally didnt care. Mortal realm the same, but there at least I knew it was them. That aranya and Shen Ye were their shadows in the end didnt solve anything. Also because the majn leads didnt identify themselves with Aranya and shen ye. Sooooo boring. The novel was totally boring too and I was hoping that they adapted the drama enough that it wou?d be more interesting.
I totally agree with your view, but my overall rating is really good for this drama. Your review is just too funny!!!! LMAO. Thank you. I so agree with all your points
I rate it much higher but laughed at some of the truths you posted.
Hahahaha. Me too. Overall I gave it a 9 despite the many many flaws. Love a honest and funny review like this that is so on point and which I totally agree with.
I gave this drama a good rating because I loved the final 10 eps despite the uncountable flaws and plot holes. I so so agree with all the things you mentioned including how everything is suddenly solved in the end. Your review is just so funny, really LMAO. So thank you
I gave this drama a good rating because overall it was enjoyable and the final 10 eps or so compensated a lot. So Mosha's appearance I love opposite to you, but god... I agree with you on the many points and I can also a lot more too. Most annoying were the 1 dimensional characters. FL was a miss imo too. And her styling was terrible, reminds me of the Chinese dramas 30 years ago. They should fire the creative director.
WARNING: major plot reveal comment below and whether you liked it
Though it was beautiful and definitely made me cry a few times in the end, it wasn't THE ultimate love story for me. I only started to really like their love story when mosha Star appeared as a male side character. Si Feng wasn't deterred and equally loved XuanJi/mosha Star. Wow... If that wasn't true and unconditional love I thought!!!! Doesn't matter in what forms you come, you are you and therefore I love you. Most romantic thing ever!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Si Feng you have really conquered a place in my heart.
Too bad it was (again) so conveniently and easily solved by having a separate mosha Star and XuanJi as two different entities. Sure it is xianxia, so much is possible but it was the ultimate add on to a super long list of super easy and convenient fixes like the many, many artifacts and spells that were always available and thrown in to fix any issue in this drama.
I'm at Ep20, and Hao Chen is getting on my damn nerves. So far the drama has kept my attention for the most part…
I finished the drama. See my elaborate comment above. How about you? Since you were not super invested in the love story like me... Would love to hear how far you are and if the final eps managed to change your opinion!
Right I enjoyed the drama too but the lovestory just wasn’t as heartbreaking as in TMOPB and AOL which actually…
Haha. You are definitely not the only one. For me personally I think it was that all the sacrificing, blood vomiting started too early and too often. Also there was quite some back and forth feelings of yes, she loves, no she doesn't love, oh she loves etc. It gets somewhat repetitive, it feels artificial --> put in for the dramatic and tragic effect, and the charm wears off. Not that I didn't cry a few times at the end. I think in tmopb and Ashes the love story is quick but still considered more normal paced and there is one big good blow and sacrificing that is more impactful than the continuous stream of sacrifices and forgiving on Si Feng's part?
Would love to hear other opinions who felt the same about the love story part.
WOW, last part was so awesome!! Binged ep 22-59 in 3 days. Last 10 eps totally fixed it for me. I had a hard time in the beginning as I didn't like the side characters nor was I that terribly invested in the main couple. In the end the love story was beautiful because of Si Feng unconditional and undying love that made me cry several times. However, somehow the love story didn't devastate me like in tmopb, ashes of love or the untamed, just to name a few more recent dramas... So for me personally, it wasn't the love story that made me binge it.
What was truly awesome and made my 9/10 rating: super refreshing plot in the end!!! So much room for fanfic writers to have 'alternative' main lead pairings ;). I truly love all the badass versions of XuanJi and will definitely try to find fanfiction to read about that part.
What wasn't great in my opinion:
- too dramatic and too much blood vomiting and uncountable near deaths to an unrealistic and therefore somewhat annoying level and amount even for xianxia.
- too many randomly convenient magical artifacts, herbs, spells and what not else to cure and solve anything and everything when conveniently needed. And it was needed in every episode. The number was just unreasonable high even for xianxia. It is just a too easy way out for many issues.
- deus ex machina ending which always feels so unsatisfactory.... I never finished the Pillowbook drama, but have read the translated novel. And that one had a deus ex machina solution as well that really killed the whole world building and plot how to deal with the villain. So, I hope it is not the trend amongst many xianxia novels to have those kind of solutions for endings in general.
- so easy to predict who were canon fodders/disposable and too much 'fan service' in this respect. It is a huge improvement that nowadays in Chinese dramas it is no longer that almost all of the characters die, but the opposite trend feels like too much fanservice and unrealistic.
Overall, super refreshing and progressive xianxia drama, despite all it's flaws. Have been watching Chinese dramas for decades which makes me easily bored. This one has such great twist in the end that makes me super happy. Won't rewatch it though ;)
this drama makes the impression that humans are better friends with demons (because of good heart) than worshiping…
Aaah thanks Ayla. It was a big spoiler, but I didn't mind. Im binging and finished ep 44. The story is really good now! And really the idea that mosha xing is male turned into female. Refreshing twist!!
this drama makes the impression that humans are better friends with demons (because of good heart) than worshiping…
Really?? FL is mosha star?? I thought So Feng was Mosta star. But didn't FL killed mosha star? Wow can't wait to see the end. So FL reincarnated as a female GoW and stayed female throughout her mortal reincarnations? And how can XuanJi be a man too?
I always recommend going into any drama (high rated or low rated) without too high of an expectation and let the…
Thanks. It gets better after more episodes. It is still a enjoyable watch. Love badass GoW and start to like Ling long, ming yan and silver snake too. Side characters are developing. Purple fox is heart warming how devoted her love is. Can't wait to see a darker Si Feng. He is too nice at the moment
Yaaa, you are at the beginning)) Forget about Ling Long, Ming Yan and silver snake, look at Teng She (my #1 side…
Thanks! I'm now at ep 36 and it does get better. Side characters are finally evolving too and new ones introduced. Though I feel a massive misunderstanding coming involving the FL mom's killers. Not sure it is fun to have this arc. The thing that is most interesting for me at the moment is to find out what the Gods of War found out and caused her rage 1000 years ago.
this drama makes the impression that humans are better friends with demons (because of good heart) than worshiping…
My take from all the xianxia dramas is that it doesn't matter which realm you belong. Not all demons are bad and not all gods are good. Only the gods that do evil things pretend they do it for righteous cause, whilst the demons are a straightforward bunch which I prefer. The heavenly realm is just so hypocrites that halfway through I always want to throw my shoe at the tv because they annoy the hell out of me
I'm at Ep20, and Hao Chen is getting on my damn nerves. So far the drama has kept my attention for the most part…
Aaah yes..Hao Chen... I do sense he will be such a pain in the ass in the remaining part. I 'forgive' him for now as he wants XJ to ascend again, but you can already tell he will become really evil as at the same time he doesn't feel sorry at all to cause SF so much pain. He is just a petty, jealous king. He is such eye candy though hahaha. Especially in his heavenly lord outfit. Too pretty to be a villain. I hope he makes a worthy 2nd lead. Quarantine sucks and I really hoped to find something I'm totally invested in.
I just finished ep 21 and although it gets better I'm still waiting for the wow moment. reviews are outstanding so I really really hope that it will come soon. I'm not such big fan of ling longs character so far or Ming Yan, neither silver snake. Also I hope WuTong isn't THE ultimate villain in this show as till ep 21 his villain character is pretty 1 dimensional still. Somehow most of the side characters seem rather flat and predictable.
Am I the only one? I can't find much negative comments which is a good sign. I've only watched 1/3 so many episodes left to hopefully change my view. It's just that compared to the other top rated xianxia dramas like tmopb and Ashes of love I already got hooked after 1-2 eps. Maybe after 1.5y I still haven't recovered yet from the Untamed....
I'm only watching for the main couple, but a great drama should be so much more than only the main couple.
