The high score on MDL really piqued my curiosity because the viewership in S.Korea wasn’t much (hovered around 3 - 3.5%) and it didn’t increase until the last episode… so so glad I watched it.
And Jo Woo Jin is amazing… like I already noticed him in Goblin… but over here he was… just… 😯😯😯 so much on-screen presence. His character is my absolute favourite.
Totally agree with all the polarising comments below on whether this is anti-feminist… BUT I also think a lot of it is taken out of context because it was meant for Korea’s society, which is a step behind for developed Asian countries in terms of gender bias/discrimination..
I do think they exaggerated it so that it comes off as comedic (kinda debatable on whether they achieved it), but in a way I do understand the underlying messages… it does give a different perspective from a female POV… albeit the whole extreme violence thing was a tad over… the FL does really make people admire her just coz of how cool she is.
Defo surprised me coz it was a really enjoyable watch. I thought it’d be really bad, just casually watched it coz of the MDL score.
I actually think it’s so much healthier given the background and character of the grandmother…. Aih poor dude though… his current family now is just a super weird set-up given they want to erase his roots….
Honestly speaking… I don’t think it’s a bad idea for Gi-Yeong to live with his grandmother… In a way I think he would feel more secure, comfortable and less pressured…
Two different physiatrists said she's fine 😅I honestly hoped she's mentally ill but she's just a bjtchShe even…
Yes, that is fair. Though there are also chances that the body washes up ashore but at least there’s a chance. But they chose to do it in NT…. It was just 🙄
Yeappp. The conclusion was someone who was half sane did it on a whim coz of money…. But it did get me thinking if it happens in real life. In countries where there are just soooo many people like India and China… whereby words can be taken outta context and murder is committed over something menial or even just a super small amount of money. But yes, the style of how the author did it was exactly like the marriage bit. It’s solved but kinda open…. I think that’s also why the novel didn’t rate well.
But I loved the cinematography, I might have dropped if it wasn’t coz of the acting/cast and cinematography… Have to admit though Xia Bing Ching isn’t some ethereal beauty, her body and her face really suits the role. Her body reminds me of Dakota Johnson 🤣. I’m curious if the other Feng Xiao Gang drama is any good. Hope to see you in other thrillers posting againnn! ❤️

LOL! Oh my gosh, I told my brother the EXACT same thing when I read the whole article. I said. Shitz, they must be the dumbest people on Earth… how could they expect to get away with this? With technology nowadays and in sucha densely populated city. And she’s even a KoL…. Like not some orphan or homeless person…. How stupid are they actually… initially I thought it was like a spur of the moment thing and to some extent it was an accident then it’s not coz they were dumb, then I read it was premeditated… and I’m like…. 🙄 wot the….. wot kinda failed premeditation is this….
Conclusion is… which actually is the case in Mainland China as well. I think there’s even a Mandarin term for this. People shouldn’t become wealthy overnight…. Esp people who are not super grounded and educated. It drives a person crazy and dumbs them down. And poor kids, I read like the couple shares a pair of kids between them. Like they will have to live with the fact that the father et al. Killed their mother…. Sighs…. Messed up world.
Yea, hence when I saw Xia Bing Ching here I’m like, I’m very sure these kinda people exist in the world. Extreme and just… like they’ve gone mad.

Yes, same! And even the thriller, more often than not it’s about money… just like the Abby Choi case… and in a way it’s kinda similar coz it’s caused by a group of people… like super eery in the sense Abby Choi’s chauffeur is also like the brother of the ex-husband. Somehow it reminds me of the chauffeur in this series. 😳

Couldn’t agree more! But I have actually met people like that. Always demands perfection from the partner but have never demanded the same from themselves. Sometimes I wonder if they are even aware… weird.
It feels like watching two different shows sometimes, the mystery case and then the shady husband / equally creepy…
Lol. Perfect way to describe it… shady husband and toxic wife totally sums it up.
BUT…. I thought it was an amazing series.. the parallels contrasting, weirded out but… it’s so engaging… mostly coz of the way it was shot… so the high production quality made a massive difference. Otherwise it would have just came out weird, b.s and totally crappy…

Ah ok. Will rewatch it again later. Thanks! My Chinese isn’t that good. 🤣 Oh yea, for sure. I most defo understood the marriage dynamic even from the start. I still think it’s a tad abstract… But the thriller yea, I mean they kinda cheated with the whole fall guy, but he’s just the stand-in guy.. the last domino to fall…. It’s coz all 4 of them prior… like the dude who raped her, wife, the chauffeur, esp the guy downstairs actually… I mean. Xia Bing Qing is quite crazy honestly… lol. And it reminds me girls can be kinda crazy if they want to be… so her reaction is always bizarre.. at least I think so.. for me, I would have either sued his ass… or just take loadsa money and bolt. Or maybe both, But she wanted to do kamikaze… 🤔🤔🤔 I’m not a big revenge person… so… yea.
Btw, they defo shortened the ending, I read that her colleague actually kissed her in the novel… which made her go through a revelation because she was really shocked.. but in the series they just made it into a ambiguous confession…

I just finished the raw Ep. I like the case though. I think it’s one of the more realistic non-psycho thriller cases. It’s actually highly plausible… in current times. I was sorta expecting this kinda ending, it was one of the scenarios. It was the “butterfly effect” thing she hinted earlier. So the entire thing is a domino effect basically… the final killer as much as he was a random person isn’t all that random to begin with… It all truly started with the guy who raped her and subsequently the guy downstairs…. And also to be absolutely fair, she did have a Stockholm syndrome thing going on whereby her response was also…. Really out of the ordinary.
But yes, the whole parallel thing with her home life, esp the ending I watched just now…. Yea. So like the novel, they left it as an open ending. Without ever explaining why he was at the hotel and who the mystery girl was…. That bit was a bit too abstract for my liking… it leaves a lot of food for thought but…. Ummm…. Yea, I mean to be fair, a good amount of relationships and marriages are….. “abstract”… but I was hoping for more than that I spse.

Lol. To be really fair.., there are loadsa 2 “incapable” parents though…, hence why I find it quite ironic… if we look around now, and even precedent generations… there are loadsa it. I don’t know if that is why the kid is so mature… maybe nature or maybe nurture..

Sad. If so then I think the TV adaptation did a decent job. I was really trying to read it via MTL but only got snippets here and there, so couldn’t totally piece tog the entire puzzle.
I still think it’s super good although there are so many eye-rolling moments. The lead actress really managed…
Lol. Love your questions. So I did some digging into the novel. It looks like these are the questions they explored… but they provided very metaphorical answers and gave an open ending. So the whole novel was wrapped around realism… whilst also projecting these mistrust and doubts… cracks in a marriage… so how valuable is monogamy… wot is everyone’s definition of monogamy….?
