Yea, the scene of them sleeping together got me scratching my head because she just realized her feelings for him. When she was looking at his hand and she decided to give in to him made me think that she just wanted to pay her debt to him because he saved her. It didn't happened that way in the novel as people said they already been together when they were captured. So because the drama is much more condensed, some of the stuff didn't make as much sense.

I'm glad they made the drama more PG. The novel sounds too dark. I felt like she wouldn't be able to be with other people if she tried. He would probably kill her and himself. It's doubtful he would ever let her be happy with another man. Essentially, she was trapped the moment he laid eyes on her. lol

You should still watch it. I still enjoyed the drama despite all these negative points. I guess if if you separate the novel from the drama then it should be ok. Most of the stuff were cut or changed in the drama. The drama is mainly centered around politics. The love arc is not the dominant theme. Due to the number of episodes restrictions, they cut out quite alot of stuff from the novel so I felt like the love story felt a bit rushed near the end. Still it's an intriguing drama and no dull moments.

I agree with you that it's hard to digest this kind of storyline at times. I do love the leads but I do find it hard to accept how XW treated her in the later episodes even though he's supposedly less violent than in the novel. The character is still very controlling and toxic. I felt that she accepted him because she felt sorry for him and she felt indebted to him. Though the drama did showed that he became nicer after they got married so I guess we can take that his mental health got better.

The teacher storyline didn't bother at all as most men married girls who were really young during those era. Their age gap was not that big in the novel. She was already at legal age.

People said the novel is much darker. He was more violent in the novel and I don't think he would ever let her escape. Sounds like very toxic relationship but it's fiction after all. It's a very popular novel so I guess people are into this kind of stuff. lol

In the novel, did she married him out of fear, felt sorry for him, or she actually loved him? I agree with you with the fact that XW is still too controlling even when they made his character more palatable. We would hope that he will become softer around her when they're married. I saw that her acceptance of his toxic behavior stemmed from his past and she will teach him to love someone better.

Thank you for your explanation. It made so much more sense now. I don't think I can stomach that kind of character even if his life was bad to begin with. He still raped her and did that those things. Seems like he got more alot of mental issues in the book and who knows how aggressive he'll be when they're marry. She's not a good person in the first life but that doesn't mean that she deserve to be played around like that. I'm glad they changed that in the movie. It'll be too hard to accept their love.

Yes, and the fact that she said that she didn't know if she wants to marry him?? I was like 'what was the writer thinking!". If she didn't want to marry then why did she decided to that then! They're just going to carry on a relationship and sleep together? It just didn't make sense.

The part where she decided to sleep with him really made me question the writer of the novel. Then to say that she don't know if she wants to marry him yet. I thought she wanted to pledge her love to him so that was why she made that decision. What they're just going to keep going on having an affair? For the era that she is in, that is out of the question. Plus she's from a noble family so it would bring shame to her parents.

What bothered me even more was that she decided to give up her virginity to him so quick when she just realized that she wants to be with him. I don't know if the writer was trying to put modern ideology into the series but that was just wrong.

I feel really conflicted after finishing the series. On the one hand, I like the interactions of the Xie Wei and Ning Er. I also feel sad for Zhang Zhe. I don't really like how their love story ends. It could have been wrapped up better. She got over him so quick so I feel like she didn't really love him to begin with. Or is it because we're missing the time gap in the drama that it just feels not right.

I really don't like that they still kill off one of the characters. It kept true to the book but I still find it unnecessary.

The one thing that really bothered me about about the last three episodes was how the love progressed between the two leads. They went from nothing to everything in span of two episodes. I felt like it didn't keep true to the era and how a lady should act. Even if it's someone like Ning Er who likes to break tradition. Her decision after the event was also baffling as she just went 360 on him afterwards. lol

omg the preview for ep 36-37 looks so intense! The preview for the second kiss got me a bit confused. I like Xie Wei but does he have to so aggressive towards her all the time. Kind of scary. lol

Yes, it annoyed me so much that he used it in so many scenes. It doesn't make the scene any better.

Urgh I wish they would have the option to extend this drama. The stupid government rule just ruined everything. Things just started heating up between them. I want more scenes with them. I really like Zhang Ling He here. I wish they would work together again but it's probably unlikely due to their dating rumors.

I love that he doesn't even think of what he said. They were probably like "WTH, we spent all night not sleeping looking for you". lol

Yea, it's sad to see him go through so much pain for her. I find Yan Lin just as pitiful. He loved her so much. Not so much ZZ though. I find that maybe ZZ did loved her but he's more rational. He's the type that can go on to live well even if they don't end up together. Yan Lin and XW is a different story. If only she can just marry both cousins. lol
