As someone said, it’s the heat index. Each platform has its own heat index. 20000 is like a first step milestone for Tencent. A hit drama I believe has to reach 26,000. This is why I advised to do subscriptions through the link because that influences Tencent’s heat index. Youku works off the barrage system but I don’t know if foreign fans can contribute to its heat. You can also search for the show to push up data but it requires erasing the search results everytime and it’s really tedious. The show is sitting around 4000+ on Youku and needs 10,000 to be a hit. If they can reach hit status on any other platform, that would be really good grades. Also if they can rise to #1. I saw they were #2 on V-linkage and #7 on Datawin. A really big bonus would be if their characters can hit 9 on the vlinkage charts or top #1 on the Weibo charts.

The plot is really good. Otherwise there’s no way this show would be doing as well on TV as it has been doing. There’s always something going on. Even if it’s a quiet scene there’s setup to say something is going on in the background.

A 2 is outstanding for a show with basically 0 publicity. Even now, it’s not running on publicity. It’s basically all word of mouth.

This show is very well done from multiple angles otherwise it wouldn’t have done so well. TV ratings are so highly regarded because it’s one of the few metrics that cannot be manipulated by fans making data. It’s too hard to do. To get 2, people really have to be watching the show. From looking at the comments on PXR’s side, it seems like a lot of the older audience, people who typically watch TV are really into it. The good looks and subject matter probably attract them. However they’re not the type to do data which why there’s a disparity in the grades though Maoyan, they’re #2 for yesterday.

MDL ratings honestly don’t matter tbh. MDL has certain kinds of dramas they like and this is not one of the types. Only the Douban and CVB score matter although I saw this show was in the Top 3 for market share which is awesome because the Top 2 were all flagship dramas with bigger marketing budgets.
