Is it CCTV? I thought that’s just a list of upcoming dramas in general. CCTV seems to like Xiao Ran enough to post about her upcoming dramas every so often.

Yeah, I don’t think this a show that really needs “good” kiss scenes. The magic lies in the acting and the ability of the actors to play off each other really well.

At the time, I think Youku was only uploading dramas they thought would do well with foreign audiences but now I think they have expanded probably to catch more profit.
RoaTF and JJL have different stylists but they have the same Director (which is why they look similar).

Maybe it will rise over time. Jun Jiu Ling rose from it’s initial scores if I remember right.

If you’re asking if they’re making out, then no. They’re the standard pass censorship type except for the end. Most of the kiss scenes are very chaste but sweet in my opinion.

Yeah, it is a good drama. I just wanted to point out to the naysayers why he may have taken this show on because his side especially was really vocal about this show being a waste both on here and on Weibo, and it was really disrespectful to the work both of them put in.

Leaving this here for the haters that said this was a waste of a role for DYX. Apparently this was his first drama on the star and having done RoaTF and it doing ok on a star broadcast, he now has more leverage in future roles.

Yes! It’s pretty much stayed in the Top 10 the whole time and made the Top 3 a few times too.

It’s okay. MDL doesn’t really count in the scheme of things anyway. Besides the show just finished airing on TV today and it has pretty good grades for a rebroadcast🎊🎊

It’s not just this show. There’s been a few shows with cut kiss scenes in the last year or so. I think it has to do with a mix of the platform, the producers, and censors. I’m not sure why they cut some kisses in this show. Gui Bai and the Water Lady had a passionate kiss scene and the ending has a long kiss scene for this type of Cdrama though.
Maybe it didn’t flow well (the main pair have a pretty innocent romance and some of the other chemistry laden shots have been cut) or it’s possible they needed it to be clean enough to air on TV which I heard has stricter requirements.

Honestly some of these stylist need to quit the industry. I’m so tired of looks that drag a show down instead of enhance it. It’s not rocket science for these stylists. At the point this show was shot, I believe that all of the actresses had looks that made them popular. These looks could have been the stylist’s guide if they didn’t have the talent to assess faces for themselves.

I don’t know the storyline so can’t talk about the character but Ren Min is definitely not a bad actress. She’s known for having acting skills, enough to be cast in a Noon drama, which only takes on good actors. I’ve watched 2 episodes so far and I think she’s fine and I will quit a show on the spot if I don’t like an actress. If there’s any issues, it’s mostly the dub not quite matching.

Oh gotcha. My bad, I thought you meant in general. The problem with xianxia is that it’s often classified as within the idol genre so if actresses with recognised acting skills who are not very young and/or waiting to explode take them on, they can get ridiculed. I think for most actors/actresses, the acting skills begin to solidify in their late 20s/early 30s but the 30s are considered too late in xianxia so it’s always casting too inexperienced performers. There’s also the matter of cost since xianxia are expensive to produce. This usually means they have to use traffic to bring the investment and traffic tends to be younger, more conventional looking, and sometimes with less honed skills. Add tight filming schedules and a lot of directors don’t have the patience or time to guide properly either.
I think Ren Min was a good choice too. She has acting skills which is what matters most and she also looks like a young girl.

This is the first xianxia I’ve felt I could watch in 2023. I love xianxia so I’m so happy. It’s very careful and you can tell production put their hearts into it.😭
I just wish the stylist (hair and makeup) could be a better. If it had been done to suit the performers individual looks, I feel there would be less room for haters.

Gong Li, Zhang Zhiyi, Zhou Xun, Gillian, Nini, Yang Mi, Yang Zi, Peng Xiao Ran, Zhang Jingyi, Song Zuer… There’s tons of beauties with acting skills in C-ent. They often don’t get too much spotlight or they aren’t as well known to foreign audiences.

It’s a Tencent thing thing this year. So many dramas from them have relied only on fans to promote. I think that’s why they released the show now. They can catch the heat from his last drama without spending much.

The sweet episodes are way sweeter on TV because you can see the micro expressions so much better. It’s a sugar paradise 🥹🥹

Actually thinking of giving this a watch for Ren Min. She’s a promising young actress with distinct features.
Her Huirou was very good in looks and acting. As for this show, I haven’t watch it yet but judging from comments, if someone doesn’t look good in a drama, the fault should lay with the stylist; they’re the ones who get paid to ensure a star looks good and a good one considers the features of the star when styling to maximise their advantages and minimise their disadvantages.

Haha, well I can’t be upset even if it is The Legend. The training they put her on has done wonders for her temperament and body posture. I swear her fans jumped from 6.09 yesterday to 6.5 today.
