I think I finally get Director Xie Ze’s vision for the makeup and costuming of this show. First, the simple style actually is true to the book. Second though her styling is simple, does PXR actually look bad? No, it’s still clear that she’s beautiful and with the simpler look, you can focus on the acting which is supposed to be one of the major draws of the show.
Thinking of JJL, while it was criticised for its makeup, it was the show where public opinion began to acknowledge her acting more than her looks. Good actors shouldn’t need the bells and whistles of makeup and costume to set the characters up. The acting should do most of the heavy lifting.

I always think its his eyes. He has a way to express/emote the feeling of his characters through his eyes. That's…
Just saw the MV and the acting of both of them was so good, I didn’t notice anything else the first watch.

Completely hooked after seeing the MV! Don’t forget to leave a like or comment on YouTube if you can. Tencent gives more marketing/attention to shows it thinks will do well.

I’ve really been impressed with the tidbits I’ve seen, especially this latest one. He has got all the correct body language but it also feels natural. His eye skills are really top level though. His look in the first tidbit really sold me on the chemistry 😩. These two really should be a good match because Xiao Ran has eyes that can speak too so they should play off well together.

Ryan Ding really has something about him. So many younger actors rely on the female leads to create the chemistry but here in these seconds long clips, you can tell Ning Yuxuan loves Jiman with just one look.

Title Good Bye, My Princess Spoiler
Their love story is so haunting. I think she really loved his true self that we see more with GXW. It creeps in,…
Yeah, it’s pretty grim… which is probably why so many fans say the Wangchuan couple is a dead solution. I’ve also heard fans say that Xiao Feng would end up like Ruyi in Ruyi’s Royal Pavilion or like Ning Yi’s mother in Rise of the Phoenixes.
I’d like to think they could be happier but I don’t think that can happen unless Gu Xiao Wu’s betrayal doesn’t happen. I think Xiao Feng could forgive everything else but she couldn’t forgive being the one who let the wolf into the house (despite Gu Jian being the one to set her up…)
Which is why I dislike drama Gu Jian so much. Xiao Feng really trusted him and he let her down every single time. Every time I watch the bridge scene when she meets Li Chengyin for the second time and I see her look back at Gu Jian with that apprehensive look, I want to jump through the screen! How dare he smile and encourage her on!?😭

Most fans theorise he’d have Xiao Feng drink Wangchuan water everyday and that he would still kill the people close to her like A’du and Gu Jian because they would be a threat to keeping the secret. I’ve also read that he would probably try to have children with Xiao Feng asap so she would feel that she has to live for them.

I’ve always wondered if one of the reasons why Xiao Feng is so memorable is because her story is so heartbreaking.…
He’s pretty bad, so bad that I can’t understand how anyone can justify his treatment of Xiao Feng or want her to be with him with all the abuse . The drama kinda glosses over one of the worse scenes. It’s the scene after the argument by the swing. It was cut short in the drama leading to ambiguity but his assault of Xiao Feng in this scene is the main reason why he’s unforgivable to me even though he is a complex character. There’s no pressure or political reason for his actions in that scene but he still abuses her in the worse way and the description of the book is even more brutal. When I watched that scene, I felt like the drama was telling viewers that Li Chengyin had reached the point of no return so it has always confused me when others try to justify his actions, say he’s pitiful too, or his love is humble.
In my opinion, it’s none of the above but that two extremes of brutality and infatuation create a complex character akin to Wuthering Height’s Heathcliff. I’ve always felt that the criticism of drama LCY’s later character development comes from the way the drama tried to make Gu Xiao Wu and Li Chengyin a before and after effect when Gu Xiao Wu is really more of an alter ego/fantasy of Li Chengyin. He’s a monster of his environment’s creating but there’s a part of him who wants to be “human”.

To Our Dreamland of Ice is really good. A few fans are requesting it on Viki in the hopes of getting it translated into English.

Why i am feeling like it’s not her original voice.
It’s not. It’s a dub. I think the Women’s Day tidbit might have been her original voice though. It sounded close.
I’m low-key hoping that Nie Sangyu is done by her.

The book is really gut wrenching. It’s from Xiao Feng’s point of view but starts from when she’s married. The book Li Chengyin is basically a monster, there’s very little to redeem him but then I think the book doesn’t try to whitewash his character like the drama. I think the beauty of the book comes from the side stories. They’re really poignant and explain the complexity of the characters in a delicate way.

I've seen comments online that it has been heavily rewritten. That's what it seems like from the trailer too,…
Yes, the script is very different from the book. A lot of what was in the book wouldn’t pass censorship and a lot people didn’t like the male lead. I’m a book fan but I’m going into this with an open mind and thinking of this as a loose adaptation because it seems the essence of the book is still there but the journey is different.

I've watched this show so many times since it first came out. One thing that remains the same to me is that XF's…
I’ve always wondered if one of the reasons why Xiao Feng is so memorable is because her story is so heartbreaking. From the beginning to the end, it’s the story of an abused woman that starts with Xiao Feng at 15 and in real life that’s so young and impressionable…
In the drama, she was groomed by Gu Jian, whom she trusted, and that in addition to her youth + GXW’s novelty factor created the infatuation that led to her doom. In the book, there’s more detail and explanation for how she falls for GXW and it’s a sweet enough history that it’s easier to understand her dilemma a bit more and why she says she loves GXW and never Li Chengyin. In the drama, I got the sense that it was more the idea of GXW and the happiness and innocence of that period than the man since it was the last few happy days of Xiao Feng’s life.
After she gets to Central Plains and learns about the Danchi again, though the drama tries to convince the audience otherwise , I agree it’s more trauma bonding/others brainwashing Xiao Feng than Xiao Feng being in actual love with Li Chengyin. She’s isolated from her home and family; and she’s so lonely, she cries or gets depressed. It makes sense that she latches on to the few moments of kindness he showed her and tries to build something from it when you think this is the man she’ll be with for the rest of life.
It’s so sad and I’ve always felt that Xiao Feng’s ending was more because she was kind and desperate than out of love. She knew she couldn’t escape him and she couldn’t live with him either after all the betrayal and abuse but it wouldn’t be in her character to kill him either.

How did ji man replaced her twin sister in the novel?
Me too because PXR is known for performances that don’t feel the same, and even in the trailer Nie Sangyu has a different feeling from Jiman. It’s a bit exciting because I don’t think she’s ever played a villainous character before either.
