The story is a bit weird. Bai Lu is an intelligent woman. She and the emperor don't believe in astrology. But…
PXR actually mentioned this in a tidbit about the character. She also found it to be a contradiction. I think it’s more Bai Lu doesn’t believe in astrology absolutely determining fate. There’s not enough world building in the show but it seems astrology has other uses and maybe is a proper magic system in this world. That seems to be how Bai Lu uses it.
Really hoping this show gets popular enough for an extended cut. If they can show the tidbits, I feel that they…
All I can say is Youku is really strange. It’s a wonder how they make money. They add filters that ruin the show’s appearance. They make cuts that ruin the plot. They support the traffic artists of other platforms with high level dramas rather than boost the profile of their own artists. They’re not as bad as Tencent but they hold onto shows forever. And then they barely advertise shows when they are airing. People often say if a show can be successful on its platform, it would have blown up on others. With these cuts, I’m really wondering if they’re not planning something to pull more views/money out of people. I noticed some other show magically got more special episodes after airing last year. I also know Royal Nirvana essentially ended up with a second season (which I find better than the first) after its first run. It appears in the Cdrama world directors have a lot less power. The director of this show doesn’t seem to be happy about the final result. In some cases, directors can’t control the casting, the script, or what actually airs. There’s a lot of factors out of their control so unless they are obviously bad, I try to cut them some slack. Plus a lot of poor quality of some dramas, is actually down to editing but somehow editors keep escaping public wrath and the directors get the blame.😂
Why are they deleting scenes that would have made the show better?! I have a principle not to skip through scenes…
Really hoping this show gets popular enough for an extended cut. If they can show the tidbits, I feel that they must not be things the censors cut but the platform. Youku is famous for making weird cuts.
They’ve been releasing more tidbits/deleted scenes the better the show does. I’m not sure if the foreign market matters, but if you have time try to give the show a like or a view on YouTube, Viki, or Douyin if you like the show.Maybe with enough support we can get a Directors Cut.😂
Censorship just love to cut our ML's heroic efforts lol
I’m really not understanding the cuts to the romance. I don’t believe that’s censorship. That sounds more like the platform, Youku. I don’t know who they employ as editors but they all seem to be terrible at their profession.
Yu Xiuming really is my favourite male lead so far this year. Possibly ever. The real emperor protects the country and the beauty. Another tidbit with scenes that might not make it: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4845464345904100
I'm not a fan of male actors looking like little girls. As is the case here with the SML who looks younger than…
In defence of ZZT who plays Yi Wuyou, actors do have to start somewhere and he’s going about it the way it used to be done by working his way up with smaller roles. I believe this was his first bigger role and tbh with all the cuts and lack of screen time, it’s hard for me to really judge him. His scene with Yezi and the seal seemed okay. The emotions and reactions were in place and his confrontation with Qi Hailan over Yezi’s execution had an interesting intensity. Plus he’s up against FSF who has been acting for years and PXR who while is still improving, is still thought of as promising in terms of acting skills within her cohort. The experience seemed to help him as I’ve heard he was quite good as the lead of hockey drama that came out this year. And sometimes directors cast to capture other skills. While he may have been brought on for his looks, I think ZZT was brought on because of his dance skills. While I’m not sure if Yi Wuyou is a warrior, he’s a bird like princely character and his key scenes seem to be fight scenes. This suggests his character needs to have an air of delicacy and grace to portray the birdlike characteristics while also displaying the fluidity of movement key to martial arts. There seems to be few young actors who can do martial arts like in the past so dancers are often used to at least keep the fluidity and grace. ZZT is known as a good dancer. I’ve seen his ice skating and even as a novice, he’s quite graceful so I can see his skills translating to other areas. In his tidbits, his fight scenes looked pretty good.
I think there is a bit of that but some of the criticism is valid. The story and acting at times is truly disjointed.…
People are telling FSF to never lead these types of dramas again. They’re telling the FML to quit the industry and ridiculing her choice to star against the best acting opponent she’s had so far. It’s just really maddening as someone who actually likes acting. Even if the plots not always good, the acting skills can be seen in this show so it’s a bit like a plea to people to please not drive the talent out of this genre. 😩Like mentioned earlier, even young actors will sometimes not take on fantasy or historical romance because it’s looked down upon. I love Mimi. She gave me two of my favourite FML, Bai Qian and Fuyao. She and Her Perfect Husband’s criticism is just wild. Isn’t Yang Mi actually younger than the character she plays. I stopped listening to the criticism when they said she didn’t look enough like a lawyer.

I don’t think they’re talking about the review on Dramalist. It’s actually pretty decent. It’s probably more geared towards Douban and it’s toxic rating culture. People are literally giving the drama 1 star reviews just because of FSF and while people are entitled to their opinions to trash the show, people are also entitled to their opinions to defend the show. This drama does have problems but there have been plenty of other quality fantasy dramas trashed because of the age of the leads. Especially if they’re a respected actor ( and sometimes it doesn’t even have to do with age) they can get ridiculed for doing fantasy which keeps them away from these roles entirely. As a fan who likes fantasy and historical romance and good acting, it’s annoying to keep seeing this pattern. For example, the picture of the poster’s avatar is from a drama that suffered some of the same ageist complaints. It basically hit the streets domestically because of this and yet it went on to be nominated for an Emmy.
ow, so were they supposed to kiss? it looked quite naturally that she ran away. but i was wondering why woud the…
Haha, I know an actor who for a fact looks 10 years older than his age and some of his crew are dissing FSF to gain popularity and it’s annoying af. I think it’s just FSF they don’t like tbh or the fact that he was chubby for some scenes because I saw a comparison video of him with other older men and they still looked old too. I still say if they gave him a beard, we wouldn’t be having this convo at all. Bearded emperor FSF is like Ningyi with the good weave levels looking good. And while people trash him, not many people can come with a actor of his level that would agree to do this. And that’s what really annoys me is that when good actors come to the TV fantasy genre as main leads they get ridiculed so we end with poor or mediocre main leads most of the time. Also people need to read the synopsis. They can tell the exact diameter of the mole a character is supposed to have on their left cheek in other dramas but on this drama they suddenly don’t know the male leads age.
Congrats to Shining Just For You breaking 8000 on Youku’s popularity index! It’s usually not a high achievement…
Lol, it got a hot search so Youku must be happy too. At least it’s number 2 on Youku. And the shot the show put up to celebrate is super cute too. It’s the scene of Yu Xiuming telling Yezi to seize her own destiny.
Dear show writers, I can't stress enough how little we care about Princess Lian, Zhu Ying and Yebei's people arch.…
I started fast-forwarding too. Altho there’s some fans of them, even the Chinese fans are complaining. I think it’s there cause it’s the only storyline that got left intact.😂
