It’s the same makeup/costume team as GMP so that’s why her clothing has similar vibes but SJFY has heavier and more ornate clothing with a more fantasy feel than GMP. And once Ye Zi gets to Tianqi, the similarities disappear.

I won’t post anymore after this but I’m not denying it’s been butchered. I’m providing context as to why. Tbf to a lot of dramas, they may know initially what works and what doesn’t but the environment of C-ent is constantly changing and what may be okay one year might not be okay the next. This can happen while or after a drama has been filmed. A good example are BL dramas. They were “okay” a few years ago and now they’re dead in the water unless the team can figure how to cut out all the BL aspects.
This drama had the double edge sword of having to possibly cut content due to the book’s author, cut content due to the ML character being too much of a grey character, and cut content in Yebei because of various current factors. Then to add to that the platform may further cut content they deem too risky. I heard a few recent dramas airing this year on Youku had kiss scenes cut out. In this situation, you would re-edit to smooth things but I’m guessing a re-edit means you have to resubmit for trial and a lot of teams may not want to risk it.

Sometimes it’s about the episode limit but this show is a different case. In order for the censors to pass the drama this show had to cut content/scenes that wouldn’t pass. They cut 11 episodes worth of content out of the drama leaving 25 episodes.

It was originally supposed to be 36 episodes so 11 were cut.

Just finished watching the 8th episode. Low-key this drama is wild. We now have a love hexagon. And suddenly the plotting missing in Jun Jiu Ling has appeared in this drama😂😂

She gives villain vibes but she may surprise us. It would be a bit sad tho if she gave into the jealous woman stereotype. I like her.

This was based off of a novel but after editing, it doesn’t really follow the original novel very much. Originally, no Ye Zi doesn’t end up with Yi Wuyou but it’s hard to know in this version what happens.

For some strange reason, a lot of people outside her fans think she was born after 1995.

I did some picture hunting and I don’t know why they didn’t give him a beard. If they gave him a full beard in Yebei and thinner one in Tianqi, we wouldn’t even be having this argument of if he looks good or not. FSF with a beard is foine af.😩

The show had to be cut to pass the censorship trial. I’m not sure if Youku made further cuts. The first episode is the roughest but it’s okay by the third episode even if there’s cuts.

I’ve fallen into the FSF pit. Before the show, I was like meh but now every time I see him, I’m like why is he becoming more and more handsome!?😩

I love it too! It’s been living in my head rent free for several days.

I’m just gonna ignore Douban. The editing can’t be helped if it’s what the censors want. Douban is full of haters anyway and there’s a lot of parties that have an interest on hating on this drama. I wanna know what sins this crew committed in a past life. I feel like I’ve never seen such a level of hate. People telling PXR to quit the industry, saying ZZT is not good looking, FSF is a beast…it’s so annoying because the show has barely just started and there are shows and actors worse than this that get blown to the sky.

To me, her suited role is always her next performance because she is an actress whose skills are always growing. There will always be something about her acting that surprises me.
Right now besides Ye Zi, I think her best role was Li Binghe. She’s really good in To Our Dreamland of Ice and Snow which is essentially a modern drama. Absolutely gorgeous in looks and since it’s one of her later roles, the acting is really great and she’s dubbed it herself.
Maybe it’s different for foreigners but I actually think she looks just as good in hanfu as the exotic styles but that people just have too big a filter or are too affected by marketing. I’m not sure what period GMP is set but before I saw it I never liked that eras hairstyles until I saw them on PXR. Even with Jun Jiu Ling my family members wanted to know if she was a doll when they saw her.
But its true Jun Jiu Ling is just weirdly filmed. I’ve seen some Reuters videos and photos and she looks really good but then the same look in the drama is no good.

I’ve left a review on all of her major dramas with my old account and I’ll probably write one for this as well. If you’re wondering what to watch in terms of beauty, I’d say Goodbye My Princess and To Our Dreamland of Ice and Snow are the top for completed shows. If you’re watching for acting skills, I’d say To Our Dreamland of Ice and Snow and her cameo as Tian Yu in Refined Steel. If you’re looking for an independent heroine, then Jun Jiu Ling and To Our Dreamland of Oce and Snow.
