This character bio I found from a marketing account sounds like Cangcang from the book:
Character Background: As the daughter of the Grand Secretary, she yearns for freedom. She rebels against entering the palace to become Empress, then leaves home to found Fenglai Pavilion, becoming heroine of the martial arts world.
Character Traits: She is straightforward and seemingly carefree, but extremely persistent in her love for what she loves and who she loves.
I don't see her name as the writer in Love In Pavilion, only in Sword and Beloved. Mmm ... Looking the similarity…
Love and Crown wasn’t its original English title. It was Phoenix Fly and they changed it because it was obviously terrible. It’s original name, Phoenix Stage, hasn’t changed.
This drama's Screenwriter Miao wen Jing is part of the writers of LIP & SAB, but many people don’t know…
No, this is good information 👍It’s very useful. I had heard the screenwriter worked on the FDM series and was a novelist too. I think she may even be acquainted with the original author of My Queen. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the script quality but the common theme is that it should interesting. It will depend on how everything was filmed. There might have been changes to the script. There are also two directors- a male and female director- so I wonder what the final effect will be.
I think the problem with early stage HeYu is that shy love is almost always in the details but Yin Tao isn’t…
I was joking about the BL and brawls🤣 I don’t know his strengths but I’m guessing it’s pacing and narrative ability. There weren’t very many comments about it being too slow or people being too lost to follow. For a story and cast as big as BR this is what you want. They were trying to catch the male audience and book/anime fans as well so the key was action too. The emotional parts are all secondary. And by emotional, I don’t just mean romance.
As for a director’s influence on an actor, all actors no matter how good they are, will be influenced by the director because the director has the final say on what the audience sees. If you don’t believe me check out the opening scene of Romance of a Twin Flower and you’ll see a perfect example of how a poor director can pull down even an excellent performance. That said having seen GJ in work before Word of Honor, he’s definitely progressed, especially to play a character like SMY, who is so different from himself. My only regret is that Yin Tao cut one of the scene that would have set up SMY’s character.
BR is still good without this. I still think if you’re into wuxia it’s worth a watch because it has a lot of charm points. The story gets from A to B despite a massive cast without really losing many key storylines. The SFX are good . It delivers what it says on the tin. And, Yin Tao’s comedic timing is good. He got the dark humor GJM wanted in FoF but did it seamlessly.

Directors are very key - imho 2nd only to editors in the ability to make or break a show. I think BR is alright overall but I think some people had trouble connecting because it was weak when it came to displaying the more delicate aspects of the human condition needed to world build- a key component for fictional words. A lot of that relied on the actors whereas Yin Tao seemed to focus on BL and brawls.
I feel like their bad Huaizhu was pretty good and LIP captured a feeling in its female characters that I couldn’t…
Me neither but they seem to be from a consortium and I think that consortium/partnership is who was posting insights to characters during LiP. I could be wrong though. Anyway, the script is only a part of a good show. It also depends on the director and the actors.

I think all 3 had the same screenwriter. 🤔Wasn’t that why everyone was worried after the first instalment aired? I feel like a lot of problems with that trilogy had to do with the producer though so even though the lines are cheesy, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because it strangely works in the trailer and they do seem to have some interesting thoughts on female characters.

It wasn’t shot right. SMY doesn’t stare deeply into people’s eyes but he does protect them - that’s how he often shows his love at that stage. That scene should have been shot with that feeling. It’s not about romance so much as it says BHH has become one of the people he wants to protect. The audience will fill in the gaps.

MYM and TLY should have been mostly filmed by the director of Group B so their flavour is a little different. MYM’s actress also has the advantage of having worked with a director like Yin Tao before so she knows how get across the emotion even if the director doesn't capture the detail. So you can find the atmosphere of LianMo on the first watch otherwise they wouldn’t have been one of the first non SMY BR videos to hit 1 million likes on TikTok.
Romance is indeed a subplot but I don’t think it’s entirely correct to say we shouldn’t be focused on it during romantic scenes otherwise what’s the point of them? Yin Tao should have done the detail work in the early stages. It doesn’t have to be mushy or overly saccharine.
Like the fall into the tunnel…why have them stare into each other’s eyes when one character doesn’t emote? The focus has to be on the details and action. It would have been much better for BHH to be terrified and flailing to then be grasped tightly and protectively by SMY. Even if what SMY says is emotionless if the director focuses on how secure and steady his grip on BHH is then viewers don’t need much to see his concern and protectiveness. If BHH reacts by gripping him back tightly and nodding at his words of reassurance before they both fall together, viewers can see a sense of trust developing. Bam, there’s the atmosphere.
I'm on EP 7 now and not gonna lie, there are parts that bore me and there are really good parts of the story so…
I think the problem with early stage HeYu is that shy love is almost always in the details but Yin Tao isn’t that type of director. BR is shot like it’s on the track of a fast paced theme park ride- you’ve barely taken in one scene before the next scene comes. There’s little time to build the atmosphere that that kind of love requires nor is there really a soundtrack to support it. Most of the details only come on rewatch.
did youku always that intentionally reveal such a big spoiler on their bts video of their coming soon shows?i…
Yeah, like this scene- what people will care about is was it filmed well not so much what happened. And most passer-by don’t follow the show closely so they won’t see these kind of spoilers.
I liked this drama, but two things I was disappointed in watching this drama… 1, the “ relationship” between…
There was a scene in the script where they meet again and he writes her letters as a result. It’s probably in those letters that the relationship deepens. And when they stop, Mu Yumo gets worried and starts looking for him. This pairing is really constrained because the author wrote them as a love at sight couple and thus didn’t really do the work to establish their connection. It’s really due to PXR and ZSA and their chemistry that this pair can stand up. I think things ended up why they did because the ending has already been determined in TBOY and BR didn’t really deviate from it.
