Shoutout to Youku’s TVOD for the extra tidbit(s) of Mu Yumo. Guess there’s a bougie version of Yumo and a budget version…Imagine I have to pay extra just to see my girl’s complete storyline, plot points, and character design. 😂

Probably multiple in the same color so it’s harder to notice. Mu Yumo has the same phenomenon. It’s a clever idea but Yi Xiaoya should have given the costumes either more variation in cut or materials to make it easier for the audience to see the difference.

I think marketing a long time ago said something about the costume designer giving each character a color theme.

The leads are not together in this show. Each lead has their own pairing. Su Muyu (ML) has an official partner called Bai Hehuai. This thread is talking about Mu Yumo (FL) and her official partner, Tang Lianyue.

I like how their romance is weirdly in line with being fighters. The murder rose nearly sent me. 😂 The chemistry is crazy outside the show too. The two promo videos they shot have completely different flavours but are still 🔥

Fans already knew Mu Yumo wouldn’t have as many scenes as other characters. It’s long been accepted because that’s how the book and anime are and it shows Xiao Ran respects the original source by not adding scenes. Those who suggest a guest role might not understand that a guest role wouldn’t have the same promotional benefits. The promotion is a good thing. As a guest role she’d probably be even more at a disadvantage because the show might not promote her at all outside of using her to bring in viewers and if she promotes herself too much, she may be accused of flipping the table. As FL, she gets more exposure, which she needs as it seems actors really need to keep a high profile in China. She can do interviews, attend promotional events and live broadcasts, and shoot magazines- things that usually don’t happen with a guest starring role but are important for artist exposure.

This is definitely a drama where all the elements for a good show - acting, costume design, scenery, script, and director - came together well. It’s also a perfect tragedy in a way many shows are not in that it understands tragedy is driven by the character’s fatal flaws and it’s a pure corruption character arc for most characters. And, the strong sense of transformation in pretty much of all the key characters really makes viewers feel like they have watched the character’s lives play out.

The show really captured their vibe well. I think it’s funnier than the anime.

It’s so rare to play a character and be said to be accepted and even praised by fans of the original work. Xiao Ran has done it twice. Some are even saying her looks surpass the original anime modelling which is quite the compliment.
Mu Yumo is really a delight. I wish she had more scenes too but it’s good to follow the book. If her appearance level didn’t follow the book, she might be criticised. My only regret is the show cutting her scenes but hopefully they will be released somehow.

I have so many regrets about this drama not airing. It looked like beauty hound paradise. Ba Qifu was such good makeup and her partner would have supposedly been Yan Yikuan.

He likes Yumo in the novel and anime but the secret crush plotline was cut from the drama version.

The FL and the official pairing have been split. So both leads have their own pairing. MYM is the female lead and BHH is the official partner of the ML.

Cdramas are really bad at setting up characters sometimes and I don’t know why. Literally takes one or two lines. Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99 is also an expressionless character but no one questioned Andre Braugher’s acting skills because the show setup his character.

SMY is supposed to be like this. They’re notoriously hard roles to act though. This type of character setting needs to be introduced in the beginning. In the book it’s mentioned by others but I don’t think any of that content made the final cut which is a shame. For a character like SMY, the key is also to pay attention to actions and body language.

Xiao Ran seems okay with it. Yesterday she said , “There are no roles with limited screen time. A role that you remember is a good role.” She should appear more later .

The show is following the novel so MYM’s screen time is limited. She should appear more towards the end of the show. Xiao Ran herself doesn’t mind the lack of screen time though . In her livestream yesterday she said, “ There are no roles with limited screen time. A role that you remember is a good role. ” which is true because Mu Yumo has gotten a lot of praise.

There is a romantic arc for TLY and MYM but it depends on how much will make it into the show.
