I can’t seem to move on from this drama so I can’t wait till they release the second part in modern setting week after next. I don’t normally watch tragic dramas but have an ultra soft spot for Ren Jialun and Bai Lu. Ren Jialun is magnificent as the self-sacrificing prince who will always put his country and people before self. Bai Lu is equally amazing as the smart and noble disciple that she is, willing to follow her master anywhere. While there’s not much physical love between the two, their soft glances, actions and nuanced words are enough. This is everything that a beautiful period drama should be, from the excellent cast, to the cinematography and the ost. Many of the instrumental tracks are just beyond words and I still feel teary when I hear the main ost tracks on YT. Yup, can’t move on and that’s why I’m penning down my thoughts here to encourage others to give it a try (for those who have not) and to share the same love for the drama for those who have watched and love it too.
Started to watch this by chance and omg, it’s so good and totally underrated! Laughed from beginning to the end and it’s such a beautiful heartwarming drama! Highly recommended! Probably one of my all time favourite high school drama.
Really enjoying this drama and the slow burn romance. Can’t wait for the two to be together officially! Bai Jingting became so ripped for this drama OMG!

Hahaha ok so I’m not the only one frustrated with Wang Xuan’s character! Can’t decide if she’s too young and naive or just has this innate belief that she must give these bad hats a chance coz they are her relatives/family/close buddies. As seen from her soliloquies, she does not have all that a worldly view about people. After all, she’s only 20 yrs old or thereabouts at this stage?
Really enjoyed this one! Although there are the usual cliches (like falling and being caught by the guy) but the interactions between FL and ML and even the second couple more than made up for it. There are no silly misunderstandings and the main couple is just sooooooo sweet to watch. Loved this pairing!
I think General Song is not that great or selfless a guy - the way he looks at the treasure tells you he likes…
I have a feeling that General Song was taking bribes to accumulate wealth in the hope of asking Wang Xuan to be with him someday. Have an uneasy feeling there’s more to it though and he might betray XQ.

Hahaha. I watched the latest 6 episodes in one night, slept at 4am and got up for work at 7am. Just couldn’t put it down. The more recent time I did this was for Ming Lan and Royal Nirvana!
Haven’t been this invested in a period drama for some time. The cast is outstanding, the production is top-notch and the story is just riveting! Love love love and this is a great way to spend a few weeks with this drama!
This started out so cute and the FL and ML’s chemistry is awesome. But by ep 15, I’m starting to speed through and trying my darnest to ignore some of the awful loopholes. Sighhhh.
Such a wonderful, light-hearted and warm drama! One of the best romcoms this year for me. Don’t take it too seriously and just enjoy the couple’s hilarious interactions.

I think the Crown Prince didn’t want to continue living that way - his father is constantly suspicious of him, others want to use him to rebel against his own father, the Emperor, and put him in power (like what Feng En tried to do) and may end up having war, causing misery to the common people. The Crown Prince is a highly principled and moral man. He mentioned to Wen Xi earlier that he’d rather die than to live as a deposed Crown Prince, forever at the mercy of his father and have others look down on him. He told Wen Xi that if ever that happens to him (getting deposed, locked you and punished), she must deliver a dagger to him so that he can kill himself and die as a principled and righteous man. Something to this effect. I didn’t read the novel but this is what I gathered so far.
