I thoroughly enjoyed this drama even though the last ep had me bawling about the whole injustice of Ah Xu and Tilan dying, and Jianming and Haishi once again separated by their duties and loyalties to the country. Bittersweet ending I suppose, together but not really together. At least, Jianming didn’t die. Despite the slightly weaker chemistry between William Chan and Yang Mi, they both delivered to the end, I feel. Top notch acting and production, beautiful costumes and sets. Great OST. I’ll savour this for a long time!
The big difference is the FL in One and Only is probably going to win an award for her acting.
Agree! I’ve followed Bai Lu’s progress from supporting role to lead actress. She really nailed this one and brought the character to another level. When I watch the bts, I just wanna LMAO coz she is so different and laughs on the set all the time.

Definitely worth your time and investment! While this has a tragic ending, you can look forward to some sweetness in part 2 (Forever and Ever). I’ve watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo and Hotel del Luna as well and I would rank this highly next to these!

Well, let’s just say I sobbed enough at 4am in the morning for my husband to wake up beside me thinking I’m nuts. 😂 The last two eps were incredibly bad/sad. I was completely heartbroken.

I bawled my eyes out at 4am in the morning watching the last few episodes. Cried again when I rewatched the ost MVs and then cried some more when I read Bai Lu’s post. I’m just a mess. 😂
On Weibo (28 Aug), Ren Jialun said that even outside the drama, whenever he thinks of Zhousheng Chen, he will feel sad and heart pain. When Forever and Ever airs and ends, he thinks more people will feel the same way but also understand ZSC better.
Bai Lu also wrote a heartfelt, lengthy Weibo post on 29 Aug to bade farewell to Shi Yi. It’s too lengthy to type out here but in summary, she recounts all the waiting she did for her master/ZSC, all the times she spent in his study or on the rooftop waiting for his return or any news of him. Gradually, the waiting became a fond liking for her master, was something perhaps even Shi Yi did not realize until later and that also turned into a habit, not just a liking. Her habit of listening to him call her Eleven and not her real name Shi Yi, the habit of receiving that special gift from him on her birthdays, the habit of following him around and walking behind him. Little did Shi Yi know that her days with her master would be so short and she didn’t have time to take in the all the views of the west land with him. When filming the ending, everyone was sad and cried, including her Sisters and Brothers disciples. Although the ending was such that most of the disciples were away from one another or passed on, as the ten disciples of Nanchen Palace, each and every one of them were proud to have served their master and country and died with no regrets. Bai Lu bade farewell to Shi Yi, whose life was so hard and painful but she will bring her memories with her to Forever and Ever, and once again meet her beloved in another world. Faster, don’t keep him waiting.

It’s been days but I can’t move on either. Been watching BTS, OST MVs, interviews and plan on rewatching the whole thing this weekend to prep for Forever and Ever LOL.

I can’t seem to move on from this drama so I can’t wait till they release the second part in modern setting week after next. I don’t normally watch tragic dramas but have an ultra soft spot for Ren Jialun and Bai Lu. Ren Jialun is magnificent as the self-sacrificing prince who will always put his country and people before self. Bai Lu is equally amazing as the smart and noble disciple that she is, willing to follow her master anywhere. While there’s not much physical love between the two, their soft glances, actions and nuanced words are enough. This is everything that a beautiful period drama should be, from the excellent cast, to the cinematography and the ost. Many of the instrumental tracks are just beyond words and I still feel teary when I hear the main ost tracks on YT. Yup, can’t move on and that’s why I’m penning down my thoughts here to encourage others to give it a try (for those who have not) and to share the same love for the drama for those who have watched and love it too.
