I'll try to answer these repetitive questions in one post:
1) When will "Rebirth" be aired? 2) Is "Rebirth" a prequel to season 1? 3) Can you watch "Rebirth" without watching season 1? 4) Is the story in the drama different from the novel? 5) Will we see romance in Rebirth? Age gap debate between FL and ML.
1) Answered multiple times... APRIL 8, 2026. Please scroll down before asking a question that's been answered dozen of times. This was confirmed in a trailer on Weibo.
2) According to Baidu, it is a prequel starting from the lake incident. For now, the trailers show many events from season 1. It could be flashbacks or a mix of season 1 and 2 in one new drama. Nobody knows at this point, so this question remains open. Note: the drama was initially named Chu Qiao but was changed to Rebirth. Possibly because 1/ the empress Chu Qiao drama is coming out (not related at all) or already 2/ production wants to separate both dramas. The debate continues.
3) Unknown. "Rebirth" has not aired yet… how can anyone answer this? Suggestion: watch season 1 and you'll find out while watching "Rebirth".
4) Yes. But that's not surprising. Dramas often take inspiration from main events and adjust screen time with the actors they cast. Like season 1, Princess Chun'er received a lot of screen time not in the novel. Same with the 13th prince, the 1st prince, etc. Many scenes, like the competition, the fake mountain, Yue Grandpa, the emperor’s extensive screen time, and others, were invented for the show. It's like comparing oranges and apples—both good but with different flavors.
5) If you're uncomfortable with this, don't watch it. Simple choice! If there are kisses, they'll be the same kind of cold standoffish kisses—clothed mouths pressed together, with no movement, no saliva, and nothing sexual—just actors kissing wooden props. Chinese dramas never show realistic kisses, and this one won't be an exception. Even if the story has romantic elements, 95% focuses on palace intrigues and wars. From my perspective, the age difference matters only if there's nudity or sexual content, which Chinese censorship bans. So, whether she's 17 or 18 and he's ten years older doesn’t really matter. We're far from a father/daughter age gap here… Again, if you don't like it, don't watch it. Plenty of other dramas out there.
Photos: Half of the FL photos are unrelated to the drama… Some don’t differentiate between fan pages and drama pages… 🙄

The play revolves around the conflict on the icy lake, where Chu Qiao (played by Huang Yang Tian Tian) is rescued by Yan Xun (portrayed by Zhang Kangle).
Initially, she was led to believe that Zhuge Yue (Li Yun Rui) had died, and she embarked on a path of revenge. Throughout her journey, she receives help from mysterious individuals in Biantang and begins to suspect that Zhuge Yue might still be alive.
As the war among the four nations unfolds, Chu Qiao faces a critical choice: to bring peace to the world, awaken Yan Xun's conscience, or search for her lost love.
Ultimately, she partners with Zhuge Yue to defend their homeland. The emotional complexities between Chu Qiao and Zhuge Yue are central to the narrative as they gradually acknowledge their feelings while fighting against the chaos around them
What the relationship between Zhuge yue and Chu Qiao can some explain please 🙏
It started as a master-slave relationship. Then he taught her reading and writing and trained her in martial arts, even though she was never his disciple and already knew martial arts movements. (In the novel, she lost her memories and was only 8, making her too young and too fragile to do martial arts.) Later, he fell deeply in love with her, and when she was with Yan Xun, he protected her. He saved her multiple times. She only realized she loved him at the lake. In the end, it is a happy ending.

The interesting parts include scenes from season 1, such as the royal hunt with wolves, the royal platform with Yan family heads, Chun'er (princess) attacking the city with her army, and Chu Qiao with Zhuge Yue when she was a slave in his estate. There are also new scenes, like Prince Ce's kingdom welcoming her after the lake event. I wonder if they will remove the supernatural spider that supposedly grants her full power—though it's unclear what that power is. The summary says it is a prequel to season 1, but the trailers suggest they've rewritten the entire story. Unless all those scenes are flashbacks, but there seem to be quite a few.

Your rumor, @MarissaDanelle, about the broadcast on April 8th, 2026, seems to be accurate. :)
Based on the synopsis above, it seems that Rebirth is a continuation of Season 1. but... In one trailer, we see Chu Qiao killing wolves and also fighting on a lake. These events clearly take place in season 1. The wolves might be included as flashbacks in the trailer to confuse the audience, and the lake scene could be rewritten to introduce a new drama. There are many possibilities. The name of one of the ML is also different from S1 (back to the same as the novel)

They married, had two children, and built an empire—largely like a big province in the north—with no slavery.…
I understand. In many chapters, there were only battles, and the main characters didn't interact much between those moments. They mostly acted separately. Things only became romantically interesting again about 10-20 chapters before the end, I think. So I am curious about S2 and how the events will be rearranged.
Omg, not sure if they are going to follow the novel...anyway, after my frustration with PA's ending I started…
They married, had two children, and built an empire—largely like a big province in the north—with no slavery. It is a happy ending. But it took years before she finally surrendered. He on the other hand loved her since she was his slave. Then, because of her, he changed. Free all his slave and went to battle. The lake is part of the novel. He was saved obviously Yan Xun survived, became the emperor of Yan Bei, but was left completely alone, surrounded by dozens of concubines who looked like her. She was truly his greatest love, but his desire for power and jealousy overshadowed that. Although he admitted this, he could never truly replace her, and he never loved another woman. At some point, hate and love became mixed, and he even tried to kill her. If he couldn't have her, nobody would. The prince Ce also loved her, but his feelings were never reciprocated. The relationship with Zhuge Yue was complicated, but she genuinely loved Fan Xun until his jealousy and quest for power shattered that love, and he betrayed her trust. Tv drama removed the love between with an ambiguous « I don’t know if it was love but when you were happy, I was happy. » etc. which was a love declaration (the scene when he went out of jail and discovered she wasn’t dead… epic! Pure mutual love.) However, the novel is NOT a romance even if it is more present in the last chapters. It is mostly about power and battles. Keep that in mind. Nothing supernatural except the transmigration and swap the body of a 8 years old slave girl.
In the novel, she is young. She is 16 when they escape from the capital… the actress is 18. Respectively in the novel Yue is 6 years older and Yan Xun is 5 years older.
New actors, a new director, a new crew, and new producers are involved. All dramas typically draw inspiration from novels; otherwise, production costs could become excessive. They tend to use the main storyline and select visually striking scenes. Scriptwriters aren't necessarily the original authors, though some are both, and some also act as consultants. Ultimately, the final decisions are made by producers and the art director. Everyone else involved is essentially a puppet. Budget also is at work. Therefore, it is safe to say that S1 and S2 will be different.
'Rebirth' has a new title and no longer references Chu Qiao (I think there is a drama coming up « Empress Chu Qiao ») or Princess Agents (which was never the original novel title). Season 1 dropped the transmigration story, replacing it with a plot involving an amnesiac sect daughter with powers. The series highlights the princess and other characters with much more screen time compared to the novel, and changes the love story—eliminating Yan Xun and focusing solely on Yue. In the novel, she was only eight when she transmigrated and remained in captivity 8 years (not 4) with Yan Xun during that time. She certainly loved him as a man but we have only one scene when they are both in Yan Bey when their love is acknowledge (one kiss only) but his actions caused him to lose her. (He always loved her or was obsessed with her, but he lost her as his thirst for power and jealousy took over.) The main plot points stay the same, but tv never acknowledge she loved him like a woman love a man.
Overall, season 1 kept the essence and main plots, giving more screen time to some characters. For years, fans complained that the ending was unsatisfactory, and it was. My take is that if they give us another season without closing the dots, it will be interesting to see the level of angry fans. I do not think they will take this chance but who knows?
Recent trailers, comments, and gossip suggest this could serve as a prequel to season 1. There are rumors that there will be no romantic scenes—many critics point out the age gap between the ML and FL, but in Chinese dramas, romantic scenes are often minimal and non-sexual, like standoffish ridiculous kisses (in my profile you’ll know exactly how I feel about this! lol) Romance in the novel is rare, mostly in the final chapters. Keep in mind that Chinese censorship forbid anything merely sexual and tongues and saliva are forbidden lol
Trailers show some battles but no indication of a continuation beyond the frozen lake scene. Focus should be on the cast and their roles; I haven't seen a ‘First Prince’ or Xia’s emperor, so the full cast may not be finalized yet. Knowing the characters will give some clues if they will follow the novel in order. From memory, after the lake, she thought he died and she left everyone behind and lived in a remote place, opening a tavern. She mourned (mentally exhausted) everyone she loved and lost. Few companions found her and they remained by her side for few years… until Yue who knew where she was, decided to meet her. Then she went to battle again. The empire was divided by multiple kings and lords.
Rumors say that we shall see a lot of battles in S2… but this is rumors.
I'm very curious about this season. I will personally miss the original actors, especially Shawn Dou, with whom I have a particular soft spot.
Episode 9 @ 10:20… She was on top on the left side of the bed; in the next frame, she is on top on the right side of the bed….. To be honest, I was hoping for a naughty awkward moment lol.
He keeps bleeding and is on the verge of dying each time, and it takes 24 hours for him to recover.
Where is the donkey cart driver come from when they visited the tomb? Episode 10 @ 7:17
How those 2 loyal guards/warriors found him? It makes no sense episode 11 @ 7:15
I am very detail-oriented. Did anyone notice anything else?

This said, Marcus mentioned in his last vlog that Rebirth is looking for sponsors, which means the date should be announced very soon.
