New actors, a new director, a new crew, and new producers are involved. All dramas typically draw inspiration from novels; otherwise, production costs could become excessive. They tend to use the main storyline and select visually striking scenes. Scriptwriters aren't necessarily the original authors, though some are both, and some also act as consultants. Ultimately, the final decisions are made by producers and the art director. Everyone else involved is essentially a puppet. Budget also is at work. Therefore, it is safe to say that S1 and S2 will be different.
'Rebirth' has a new title and no longer references Chu Qiao (I think there is a drama coming up « Empress Chu Qiao ») or Princess Agents (which was never the original novel title). Season 1 dropped the transmigration story, replacing it with a plot involving an amnesiac sect daughter with powers. The series highlights the princess and other characters with much more screen time compared to the novel, and changes the love story—eliminating Yan Xun and focusing solely on Yue. In the novel, she was only eight when she transmigrated and remained in captivity 8 years (not 4) with Yan Xun during that time. She certainly loved him as a man but we have only one scene when they are both in Yan Bey when their love is acknowledge (one kiss only) but his actions caused him to lose her. (He always loved her or was obsessed with her, but he lost her as his thirst for power and jealousy took over.) The main plot points stay the same, but tv never acknowledge she loved him like a woman love a man.
Overall, season 1 kept the essence and main plots, giving more screen time to some characters. For years, fans complained that the ending was unsatisfactory, and it was. My take is that if they give us another season without closing the dots, it will be interesting to see the level of angry fans. I do not think they will take this chance but who knows?
Recent trailers, comments, and gossip suggest this could serve as a prequel to season 1. There are rumors that there will be no romantic scenes—many critics point out the age gap between the ML and FL, but in Chinese dramas, romantic scenes are often minimal and non-sexual, like standoffish ridiculous kisses (in my profile you’ll know exactly how I feel about this! lol) Romance in the novel is rare, mostly in the final chapters. Keep in mind that Chinese censorship forbid anything merely sexual and tongues and saliva are forbidden lol
Trailers show some battles but no indication of a continuation beyond the frozen lake scene. Focus should be on the cast and their roles; I haven't seen a ‘First Prince’ or Xia’s emperor, so the full cast may not be finalized yet. Knowing the characters will give some clues if they will follow the novel in order. From memory, after the lake, she thought he died and she left everyone behind and lived in a remote place, opening a tavern. She mourned (mentally exhausted) everyone she loved and lost. Few companions found her and they remained by her side for few years… until Yue who knew where she was, decided to meet her. Then she went to battle again. The empire was divided by multiple kings and lords.
Rumors say that we shall see a lot of battles in S2… but this is rumors.
I'm very curious about this season. I will personally miss the original actors, especially Shawn Dou, with whom I have a particular soft spot.
Episode 9 @ 10:20… She was on top on the left side of the bed; in the next frame, she is on top on the right side of the bed….. To be honest, I was hoping for a naughty awkward moment lol.
He keeps bleeding and is on the verge of dying each time, and it takes 24 hours for him to recover.
Where is the donkey cart driver come from when they visited the tomb? Episode 10 @ 7:17
How those 2 loyal guards/warriors found him? It makes no sense episode 11 @ 7:15
I am very detail-oriented. Did anyone notice anything else?
He's less unapproachable (?) in the novel. What the novel offers is more of his thoughts? That's usually hard…
Agreed. Often, dramas take only a few elements from the novel, which can sometimes be confusing or cause some viewers to dislike certain characters. I fail to see the chemistry between the two leads. But again, I have only watched 8 episodes.
that's his role. he shows more emotions in other dramas (not all) so you don't like the character in this drama.…
I understand what you are saying, and that’s why I might read the novel. I see why he is hiding while recovering. I understand he lost his parents tragically. I get that there are family intrigues. I have a pretty good idea that she has a higher status than a girl who slaughters pigs. I know he has a high status and all. I get it. But he doesn't show emotions on his face. For my taste, it takes too long for him to tell her the truth, especially after the assassins in the woods.
This is just my personal opinion, but I don't like men hiding the truth. It feels manipulative. How can a woman trust such a man in the future? So whenever he feels like it, he will hide the truth. It comes across as condescending and dishonest. Hiding the truth is a form of lying. The male lead doesn't seem genuine. I don't know much about this actor except for watching him in "Fairy and "Devil," which honestly didn't leave much of a memorable impression except for the plastic he wore. 😜
I know it’s only a drama, but I have a hard time liking both the actor and the character.
Also, he was close to dying, and it took 24 hours to recover? Why didn't they call him a concubine instead of whatever they are calling him?
I am probably in the minority, and I don’t mind—everyone is entitled to share their opinion.
I really like the female lead, Tian Xi Wei; she excels in this kind of role—a kind, sweet, naive, innocent character. However, I have some issues with the male character, Zhang Ling He. I find him very cold, and I don’t like that. I understand it’s part of the story, but I don’t like men lying, even if they believe it’s for a good reason. I find it mean and unnecessary. It’s okay for one or two episodes, but no more, even if he paid a lot to make her life easier. It’s still lying. Something about it bothers me. I plan to read the novel, and maybe the TV drama doesn’t portray the male lead accurately. Maybe if he showed more emotion on his face, but he doesn’t. He wears the same cold face over and over. I haven’t watched all the available episodes yet, and I hope this will change. However, the actor, Ren Hao, is the cherry on top of the cake.
It's been a while since I enjoyed a drama that much. It is the perfect role for Tian Xi Wei. Another drama that I want to watch also has a novel I wish to read.
Do not support murderers and criminals. Always check and boycott the entertainment figures who have raped, hurt, and murdered Yu Menglong, as well as the media outlets (such as EE Media, Mango TV, and Tianyu Media) that promote crime and are complicit in these acts. At least eight known individuals have died under suspicious circumstances connected to those mediaa, with many more likely unreported victims who have conveniently died by suicide or in car accidents. This is a safe and effective way to impact them financially—hitting them where it hurts: their profits.
Song Yiren is a great actress e deserves respect! ..🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
No respect when we have tons of videos showing she was involved in the murder of yu menglong. She is a madam. Do your homework instead of being a blind fanatic.

Thank you for saying it's not his usual way of acting.

I hope to change my mind after few more episodes.
