LY farewell conversation with CSS was another heartbreaker. When he wished he never met her, I can’t help but shed some tears. Their lovestory was so pure and innocent, it was touching. Now it’s tainted with regrets. Can’t we keep it as a fond memory?!
The latest episodes are saddening, really. Even if CSS rescued her dad, she couldn’t fully be happy about it.
Despite his competence, they chose to hold him down, forced to be submissive and accepting of his family’s bullying. It would drive any man insane.
As the head of the second branch, he took it to be his responsibility to get his family out of the situation by any means possible. The grand tutor made it impossible for him to achieve that the normal way. LBY should have punished the grand tutor and the first branch madam instead.
It's not her letting go of him but the other way around. Throughout the drama & novel LBY has been pushing CSS…
Oh I understand the betrayal and that she wanted to stay with him. My expectation is just she would fight to keep the relationship like LBY did when she was still resisting. She knows by now how much he loves her and I thought maybe she can reciprocate with the same persistence. People push you away bec they think it’s for your own good. Sometimes it takes the other party to step up. You try not to give up, no matter what.
Feeling torn and conflicted with the latest episodes..
I know they changed the plot slightly in the drama compared to the book (With the Cheng family being implicated/ framed).
So the biggest takeaway for me is that LBY for the nth time proved his absolute devotion to CSS with his words and actions.
Aside from that my impression with this episode is that CSS finally realized how similar they truly are.
Both have less than conventional upbringing, reckless and protective when it comes to their loved ones, vengeful, scheming and cunning ( i do not consider these as a weakness or weak traits - its a personality shaped from their unhappy past)
They crave validation and love from family, thus look forward to settling down with the person they love the most. So taking in consideration future episodes, why would CSS give up so easily after hearing his “rejection”. He essentially communicated to her in ep 44, I need you badly and you are my only family now. I would assume she would take this to heart and have that connection to not take his words at face value.
I’m curious how this will play out at that scene. She was still there by his side I know but now with the turn of events, I kind of expect her to be steadfast and show her dedication.
My heart broke a little when he said he craved her attention and that getting hurt is okay if she shows him more tenderness/affection. My poor LBY…
When work gets in the way and you still end up trying to watch the new episodes.
From the bits and pieces I’ve seen, I am loving the fight scene, the way LBY ‘s protective instincts is at an all time high, him being a security blanket and source of comfort for CSS…
Our FL is so lucky to have such a strong support system. Your fiancée loves you very much and unafraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. 💗❤️💗
I am not an expert by any means of cdramas, hence my username. Though I can say I have watched quite a number of dramas this year and this is the first that made me so invested in it.
I also tend to watch modern dramas more and really like “My little Happiness”, “Go go squid” and “You are my glory”.
Period pieces fascinate me, as costumes are really nice! I like seeing how people lived in ancient times, mixed in with martial arts scenes and palace setups.
Not generalizing but I usually find the actors a bit stiff , dialogues sometimes dragging and romance scenes pretty tame. The catalyst for the shift was who rules the world, where the cinematography was excellent, even if its more on the fantasy side I liked how it played out.Intense love attracts me to watch and the martial arts was amazing that it got me hooked .
Then my recommended list showed LLTG. I liked the poster and the actors both looked attractive. So I watched episode 1 and it wasn’t conventional. The cinematography was off the charts (coloring was so alive) and the actors were not stiff at all!
It was slowburn in the first part for romance which normally would make me skip scenes, but the storytelling on the side characters was superb! Leaves you glued to your seat and craving to know more. Then out of nowhere, the soundtrack hits you. It wasn’t just a song playing in the background (like most dramas would have) but it felt like it was building up the scenes. Queues you for comedy scenes and moreso when it was about the main leads romance. The feelings spilleth over.. your emotions bubble up just with the musical scoring.
My love for this drama is unlike any other. It’s a perfect blend of family, politics and romance with sprinkles of comedy/culture. The author and script writers are amazing as each role contributes to the whole , it brings the viewer along on the journey. You feel/emphatize with the characters, the emotions are brought out as you feel sad, happy, resentful, giggly - a wide spectrum of emotions.
It also isn’t purely fictional as you will see that it is relatable and realistic even with the ancient setting. You root for the Leads and hate the villains with so much passion. You seek out others who watch it and engage about your opinions. You would scroll in online communities for varied topics and spoilers, including trying to read a google translated book version (however hard it was to understand).
You would hate weekends a bit and look forward to Tuesdays for new episodes. Watch yt videos on spoilers and BTS, then hungrily watch teasers. What’s crazy is even if you know how it ends and the plot that is about to unfold, you still will post in online forums thinking you can influence the storyline.
Sometimes you get besotted to the point that you can’t tell fiction vs reality and you defend your fave chars behavior. Spend time disputing opinions and char interpretation that you think they are real people.
And what more, is you can totally rewatch episodes for so many times and not get tired of it. You will try to watch new dramas and find yourself losing attention or comparing it to this. Then end up rewatching old episodes instead to pass the time.
Comparing this to all that I have watched, it’s not on the same level at all. Might be the greatest of all time. Everything pales in comparison.
Upcoming dramas have it tough to give this a run for it’s money. It’s a complete, balanced story and excellent translation to the small screen. Kudos to the director for effectively transforming a novel that is so gripping , entertaining and with life lessons. His vision is so good and executed really well.
Hope they make this into a movie. Would love to watch that!
The empress seems to have suffered quite a bit even though the emperor is fond if her. She was not his first love, never experienced an intense relationship where she is everything to him, have an incompetent son and rude daughters. Surprised she kept her bearing and did not turn out to be one of the baddies.
The constant show of affection between the emperor and the consort would have made any woman insanely jealous. Aside from the strong personality of the consort and her being able to keep almost everyone in line. Even the empress’s relatives are too much, bullying her regardless of her position
She handled it so well though but it probably is one of the factors that contributed to her health issues.
Just Feeling a little sad for her. Hope she gets some happy scenes too. CSS is the only one who cares so much and protects her from more emotional burden. 🥲
There’s too many scenes to choose from! I love episode 12, where he trusts her to pull the arrow out. He was…
Yeah that is definitely a memorable one. But you know what I kinda giggled when CSS asked him if it hurt and he said no. His face was sweating and it looked like a tear fell too. He was trying to keep the pain from her
Coz Tuesday is taking its sweet time getting here.
What’s your favorite scene/ episode/dialogue so far?!
So hard to choose and of course mine would have our favorite couple on it - hands down episode 40, the hostage scene.
I really liked how LBY was so infuriated, his cheekbones were shaking as he commanded the black guards to “tear everything down!!!” Faster! And again it shook when the guy told him he will not let go of CSS, as he shouted “surround them”. Then that shift of expression from mad anger to tender thank God you’re safe PDA moment with everyone watching them .
I love that aspect about you LBY! You can totally forget about your image, reputation and toughness when it comes to CSS. Like proven more when he wore the chicken wings she painstakingly made for him. I actually don’t understand why they thought it looked funny, it made him look more distinct and regal IMO.
Tried watching LBFAD and found it interesting, but not the same level where I don’t skip parts of an episode like LLTG. I watched every bit of LLTG episodes.
Here I am rewatching episodes for the nth time and caught myself smiling widely when CSS said “I can’t do 2 things at same time, I can’t focus on her majesty/ palace and focus on you - Pick one”
To which LBY replied: I want you to focus on me. 😍😍😍😍😍😍

These are the ones i keep rewatching to get through the day and the weekend 😍
After persuading the emperor for LBY to lead the troops into battle, they clasped each other’s waist and looked tenderly at each other…. Awww but no kiss.
That scene was sooooo sweet and a kiss would have made it more perfect. Were they touching each other’s miangmen? ((Now I’m overthinking)

And they were about to have a baby.. 💔
For her to undergo such life challenges in love, family and society will totally make her such a strong woman. 💪🏼

YS to LBY: if you can only bring her trouble,, I don’t mind taking your place.
Whoa, respect to you YS for protecting our main girl and mustering enough courage to stand up to LBY.
Can’t wait for next week
