I somehow fail to draw a comparison between BR and WoH, honestly I don't even wish to because I don't find much…
I think you and I share similar thoughts. There is a YouTuber/drama critic who posted a video about her thoughts on DR thus far (up to episode 9). I don't want to give her name here to give her credit but the video compares the two shows on pacing/character development. And although both shows have two male leads the plot is vastly different thus the pacing/characters development of each show is vastly different. WOH has 2 MLs and two support roles whereas DR is 2 MLs and "everybody else". In a wuxia drama people who complain of pacing and also wants top-notch character development and keep their attention span needs to set some realistic expectations that one of the three will most likely fall short. DR is doing well with balancing the three.
A moment to speak on the fast-paced/lack of character development in Blood River. And its constant comparison to GJ's WOH. Blood River plot is different. It's centered around the internal and external conflicts of an assassin organization (which is an entirely different character development/plot between the leads from WOH). In BR, there are so many characters with most of them, quite frankly, unimportant. WOH is mainly 2 MLs with 2-3 other characters as support roles. So there was more time to spend on developing the characters. BR can't be like that. And it was deliberate. So if you're watching a wuxia drama where there are two main leads (although similar to WOH) but the plot involves being surrounded in a huge assassin organization and the internal conflicts between the two main leads, the turmoil and power struggle (which is the entire plot!) that's going on in the organization is what the writers need to focus on. This is why less time is spent on spelling out the relationship between all the characters. Keep the focus on the two leads and their struggles within DR. Keep it focused. Other than the leads, the "villain" that really only need screen time and explanation of is the Patriarch - for example. He was very developed because he was VITAL TO THE PLOT. No one else is so far up to Ep 10. So why waste audience time to expand anyone else? Right now, Blood River has enough scenes or flashbacks where we still see the relationship between the two leads but also the setup of the plot with all the thousand characters. The current pacing and writing is focused on SMY and SCH (which is the #1 goal) and at the same time still giving us an understanding of who's who of all the support characters and their importance to the storytelling and/or plot without being boring. π₯±
If they would have done it differently, I think I would have bounced. I can't stand boring dramas, regardless of who's in it. ATTENTION IS KING. If you can't keep my attention don't care if the plot is good I am OUT. And because it is a wuxia drama which we all knew it was going to be the writers chose this storytelling direction and I love it so far.
Whether it's worth staying until episode 40, only time can tell.
His brother is Su Chang Li. The guy who was trying to delay SMY's journey to Spider Nest. 3rd row, next to SCHhttps://kisskh.at/discussions/757799-an-he-chuan/145866-characters-relationship-chart
Ep 10 (bromance scene) 14:04 - 15:00 - SMY's micro expressions right on the $$. This whole 5 min scene is great but it's these 2 specific minutes that GJ nailed those little smirks. Rewatched this sce so many times.
Gong Jun isn't that great of an actor, actually. Great actors could portray serious characters without coming…
I do agree LoA was weak. I can get behind what you said about Anle. The poor script/writing wasn't in anyone's favors especially GJ and Reba. LYN was good though. But GJ was weak in that one, admittedly.
ππcan you imagine su mu yu beating the absolute crap out of you and on top of that lecturing you about how…

Ep 10 is my favorite so far. You want GJ to be expressive, well you got it. Also this episode was π€£π in Na'an. Also why is it only 30iah minutes!? π΅βπ«

That character got jokes.
