It's interesting how many of them are biracial (which is less common among top actresses in other East Asian countries).…
Eurocentrism and white privilege is deeply rooted in thai media and culture. if you look at the past 6 Miss Thai Universe Winners. 5 of them are Eurasian. They put an extra emphasis on picking a winner who speaks good english as well. Even Thai chinese are considered 2nd place in the entertainment hierarchy compared to Eurasians.
The colorism problem is absolutely bad in Thailand too. The small amount of dark skin representation we see in thai lakorn are often put in negative roles like playing the villains or partaking in minstrel show tropes. They never get to be in positive roles where they are the lead protagonist etc.
You could argue light skin people can get negative roles too, so why complain? Well it doesn't affect them as much because light skin people get positive lead roles all the time. There is a balance to their portrayal on tv. Therefore they get to have a multi faceted image.
Dark skinned asian people are more stigmatized by Negative roles because they are rarely given positive roles. So they are stuck with a one dimensional image skewed towards negativity.
I love Eurasians. They are beautiful but they only represent a miniscule part of the thai population. We need more southeast asian representation, more dark skin representation. Thai chinese is a very common ethnic group among the thai population so their representation makes sense but the Eurasians are over represented for the small amount they represent in the total thai population.
I hope everyone will support more Southeast Asian ethnics and Blasians being in more Thai media <3
I wanted to comment on it but was kinda chickening out because I didn’t want to deal with the people who will…
It does belong in Thailand because Thailand is a diverse asian country but you wouldn't know it from the amount of over representation eurasians (a privileged minority) and chinese people get on Thai tv.
I am a Southeast asian person (of THAI descent with no chinese blood) who has every right to speak on their own country
I wanted to comment on it but was kinda chickening out because I didn’t want to deal with the people who will…
No worries, i didn't perceive it to be an attack. I understood your comment fully.
and exactly, if you look at the comments below. people are already trying to spread misinformation, gaslight and act as if giving darker skin asians representation is a "bad" thing.
There is NOTHING bad or "liberal" about wanting other people to have their chance to be represented. Yet they are ready to come demonize people as if its a bad thing for people to want to see a darker skin lead actress.
I wanted to comment on it but was kinda chickening out because I didn’t want to deal with the people who will…
yeah i understand. a majority of the MDL people constantly act like the unhealthy representation we are seeing in Thailand isn't a problem. Its heavily unbalanced. For example, there are way more khmer ethnics in thailand than there are eurasians, but guess who gets to be on tv more?
The gaslighting tactics usually include "the producers don't care about race, they only hire the person best suited for the acting role" or "dark skin asians / blasians never audition, thats why they never get hired in acting roles". Its always some BS excuse.
for however hard they try to gaslight me, i will never stop trying to advocate for diversity and equality. Everyone deserves to be represented <3
I beg everyone who reads this comment. If you care about better representation darker skin people, please do not…
Maybe because the truth is hard to respond to? Its really easy for you to be dismissive when someone of your racial background or skintone is probably always portrayed in a positive light in tv shows.
You have to remember that dark skin women barely get any acting roles in Thai media. Ask yourself why light skin women don't have to compete against trans women for supporting roles? yet it happens all the time for dark skin women? Its because society views dark skin women as masculine.
"is that what you're trying to say?!"
Yes because Jenny is negatively impacting dark skin women. Jenny is a Minstrel Show, to put it bluntly. By supporting a Minstrel Show, you are supporting dark skin women's image being mocked, diminished, and masculinized.
You know back in the day, they had Africans americans partake in Minstrel Shows. The whole intention behind Minstrel Shows was to make white people look superior in comparison to black people. If a black person was considered ugly or unattractive, white people would have definitely wanted those people to partake in the Minstrels Shows or be a "mammy".
If you were considered an attractive black woman, you were forced to be portrayed as a "jezebel". As far as i know, they don't have any Jezebels portrayals in thai media atm, but the Minstrels Shows are way too numerous at this point.
I beg everyone who reads this comment. If you care about better representation darker skin people, please do not support her. Shes a minstrel show. Its basically their job to make other lighter skin asians look better in comparison. Light skin thai chinese women actually feel superior when standing next to her. They like supporting people who they know can't outshine them.
if you ask a dark skin thai girl who they want to idolize and emulate, they certainly won't name Jenny.
his acting is bad. there was a reason that he didn't speak thai much because it would have showcased his bad acting…
nah, even when he speaks thai or english. his acting is still pretty bad. i watched Cutie Pie and i can barely get through his scenes because of how awkward he sounds. He says his lines as if he doesn't mean what he is saying aka sounding fake/forced.
if you enjoy his acting good for you, but i don't enjoy it at all. Hes a handsome man but he doesn't have any acting skills. This is my opinion and i stand by it.
" but him not speaking Thai fluently doesn't really affect us that don't understand the language"
This screams of "self centered westerner" mentality. The show is mainly for a thai audience. Do not disrespect thai people and their culture by trying to invalidate their concerns/criticisms. Unclear thai diction actually affects the watching experience for alot people in thailand (especially as a tonal language). Know your place as a foreigner who read subtitles.
Asia itself is very racist due to colonoization and very particular about skin color. Many prefer light pale skin…
Every other channel didn't do blackface (and if they did do blackface please let me know so i can boycott them too)
Like i said, my main issue is the blackface and slander of dark skin.. they don't have to hire dark skin people (though i wish they would). But to mock them when they do not have the privilege to be seen on tv is deplorable.

Well you might feel that its going to take more than boycotting a channel or series for substantial changes. Thats not going to change the fact that i feel they deserve consequences for their use of blackface. I believe in getting payback. Maybe you personally think these networks doing blackface is too trivial for people not to take action. i decided to take this course of action because i find it deplorable. I'd rather they erase us than make fun of us tbh. They don't have to hire dark skin, but blackface is something i will not tolerate, like ever. Thats why i'm boycotting.

the fact that you think southeast asians don't deserve to be represented more in their own media is appalling. Worry about your own country.
I mean how can someone like you have anti-asian views and fetishize asian culture/media at the same time? That screams hypocritical.
I am a Southeast asian person (of THAI descent with no chinese blood) who has every right to speak on their own country

Khmers are not eurasians either. They are of Southeast Asian descent. Austroasiatic descent specifically.
Eurasians = of mixed european and east/southeast asian descent.
Please educate yourself on asian ethnicities and labels. You seem very uneducated on the subject.
And no i love ALL skintones. Eurasians are beautiful just like everyone else.
The only people who have a problem with my comments are people who hate equality

I am almost positive you would have never kept this defensive energy towards Blasians being labeled black.

Basically both the Thai chinese and Mainland chinese are responsible for this colorist drama.
Thanks for admitting you are a colorist and a racist.
