The last thing I wanted was yet another "hey look, guys can't communicate with each other" which is largely such a BS stereotypical myth, but, holy crap does this series do it so well.
Every episode I keep thinking that I can't wait for Yoh to have his Minato styled "HUH?!" moment when he finally realizes why Mizuki wanted him to move in with him and his reasons behind everything in the first place. The whole I like you but can't let you find out I like you because there's no way you could like me to the realization that he does actually like him as well to the well shit what do I do now dynamic that they have going on is great, now we just need poor Yoh to catch up. lol
This year has seen a lot of really disappointing series, luckily this is definitely not one of them so far.
The cast wasn't bad and the whole childhood friends reunited to lovers storyline had potential, unfortunately it was let down by everything else.
I think the writing beyond the initial concept confused the hell out of itself and could never figure out what it wanted to say and that had a knock on effect for everything else. Add in everything else like the editing, chopped up subtitles, etc. and many scenes can off as like they were put in a blender and then someone tried to piece it back together.
The Thai series "The Promise" did it so much better, even if a couple of the characters were annoying as hell.
------
If they shot some additional scenes so that Chim On and his former manager were a second couple instead of everyone sorta kinda chasing after Lee Jun and edited into a movie version, then this wouldn't have been bad at all.
So for any of you saying that Shin forgetting Minato is just lazy writing, it is a real thing:
"Systematized amnesia Systematized amnesia is a loss of memories related to a specific category or individual. For example, someone may forget all of their memories involving a particular person."
------
It's not uncommon for some people to only realize or outwardly express how they feel about someone after an accident, etc.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's not uncommon for LGBTQ people, especially those raised in conservative/religious families, countries, etc. to express their feelings, even to the person they love. Then if you add on top of that the societal taboo of Shin pursuing Minato while he was a minor and the age gap in their relationship, it all creates the paralyzing fear Minato has with expressing himself, again even to Shin.
-----
The last thing I wanted to see this year was yet another amnesia storyline, but I actually like the way they seem to be doing it in this series. It seems like it's only going to involve two episodes, and now that it's all given Minato a shift kick in the ass and made him realize that nothing but the way he and Shin feel for each other matters, that now the tables are going to turn and Minato will pursue Shin. We've had two seasons building to this point, hopefully now we'll get one huge dose of Minato that everyone (including Shin) has been waiting for...and hey if that doesn't work then we'll just have to rely on Asuka to kick everyone in the ass and get them straightened out. lol
WTF was that? So they've been engaged for three years and a sniff kiss in private is crossing a line? He's right…
Well how in the hell would we know if Nat is a good actor or not with the absolute shit show that is the material they give him. Like seriously people come on he's an adult...not a freaking infant!! AAAAARRRRGGGGG
I'm seriously starting to think you and I should have just skipped out on watching most/all of the Thai BL series this year. lol
Not a BL series but check out the series "Escape To Homestay" if you haven't already....we get to see Mark (Bite Me) string together more than two words. lol And yes, I cringed at writing the phrase "check out"...... Some scars will never heal.... lol
There's at least 4 episodes worth of filler spread out among the episodes so far, this easily could have finished with 8 episodes and been the better for it.
I'm all for a character getting out of bed first thing in the morning butt ass naked because they've got to run to the bathroom or whatever, or sex scenes, and all of that when it fits the character / story but this gotten to the point where it's let's just toss in as many sex scenes as possible to cover up the shit plot holes and fill the runtime / series length. If it's not sex scenes then it's manufactured drama rinse and repeat with Pun and Ashi.
And seriously how in the hell are we 10 episodes in and there hasn't been one single time that Ashi has teased Pun about the Ashi body pillow....come on now really....no one in their right mind would pass up a chance to tease someone about that in real life!! So many missed opportunities in this series and too much focusing on filler.
At least they did the whole thing with Kevin right and he backed down as soon as he found out Ashi was with someone.
If there is one thing I could change about this series, it would be nothing.
I actually wouldn't mind it if there was a second season were at the very least Top but probably the three guys stayed on and continued the homestay. That being said, with the way this series has been going even if episode 8 is the last of it, I think it'll end on a really good finish.
This is one of those series that I knew nothing about and really only watched the first episode because there was nothing else to watch and instantly got hooked. There's the right amount of cute and serious in it and all of the cast really play off of each other well.
The levels of absolute fuckery trying to hide their wedding is so perfectly confusing that I can definitely see them completely tripping up more than once in the next episode. This is definitely one of those if you don't laugh at the situation it'll just break you things and the cast is really doing a good job at it so far.
This just makes me really glad I never cared about who knew I'm gay so I never had to deal with anything like this and the comedic spin on something that's a really serious situation for a lot of people in real life actually works well in giving a sense of situational escapism.
I like that Bank and Earth are playing an already established couple, the honeymoon period is over (let's see if they ever get a real honeymoon), and they're trying to go about their everyday life. So many series show the chase, but then completely neglect what comes after, so it's nice to have one doing the opposite of that.
Now the real question is.....how many more men can they manage to have Mai fake/real dating in the series of two episodes....does Thailand have enough men?? lol
I said the same things before and was unfairly attacked and cyber bullied by fangirls like Nara and a MrsEclipse…
I know every time I've said something like this before I've always gotten attacked for it, but I think a lot of it comes down to the individuals that are watching. A lot of the people on here that attack others and bully are as you said the fangirls that can't stand anyone saying anything even remotely perceived as negative towards who they like. I think they fail to realize that a growing number of the people consuming BL media are older, LGBTQ+, are watching it because there isn't a lot of LGBTQ+ media to watch and so we tend to look at things more critically instead of fangirling out over it and thinking with our nether bits rather than our brains. There's nothing wrong with pointing out things that could be done better and in fact there are producers, etc. especially from some of the other smaller production companies that do actually come on here and look at the comment section so see where they and others could improve, etc. I'm not sure whatever happened to agree to disagree, but some people really take it all to a ridiculous level.
-------
Yeah Dunk really needs some extra talent development, which I don't understand why people find saying something like that is attacking him, etc. Some actors can just click with the material / character, etc. and have no problems adjusting to the way you have to carefully balance exaggerating your facial expressions, etc. enough for it to come across on camera without it looking unrealistic, while for others it just takes more time and work.
I think they really need to give Joong a role that will challenge him , even if that's outside of the BL genre. He's already getting typecast far too much in these all fluff no substance roles when paired with Dunk, and not only is it not showing off his talent and grow as an actor but he's going to get burnt out playing pretty much the same role over and over again.
Yeah the supporting cast, especially the second couple are really killing it in this series. I know he's only a minor support character, but I really wish they'd start giving AJ (and JJ for that matter) more substantial roles. They always get cast as the cookey friend side characters and they both really need a break out role like Neo has finally gotten in "Only Friends". I think they're both capable of so much more.
This series definitely needs to be admitted to the ICU of the best hospital in the world because it is seriously suffering from a fatal case of second couple syndrome. lol
Dunk honestly needs another 1-2 years in intensive acting classes before given a leading role, but even the best actor could only do so much with this trash that's more filler and holes than substance. I do actually like Dunk, I just think he needs more time to develop, especially his facial expressions, etc. I actually think the whole flower / juice scene was actually done well on his part.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Thai BL industry is simply churning through material faster than the few good writers can write it, so instead we're getting quantity over quality.
The So Mun / Ma Ju Seok and Chu Mae Ok / Lim Jae Yeol storylines are a big part of what made this season bearable to watch. Hwang Pil Gwang may have been the lead villian for the season, but honestly the other two main evil spirits this season had a lot more potential to be interesting and they definitely missed an opportunity with killing off Wong Yeok so soon. They really could have played with the potential of the healing powers in the hands of an evil spirit and in so could have also given more room for Ms. Chu to have more character development with her powers.
This is nothing against the actor, but the Na Jeok Bong character was a complete wasted opportunity, tonally didn't even fit in with the other comedic relief that made season 1 so good, and honestly was more annoying than anything. I can only assume this was the original writer struggling to come up with a counter to not being able to use the territory and this was the only thing they could come up with, or at the very least the best of the worst.
------
One thing I really did love about the season is that they still used so many practical effects when it would have been much easier for them to just CGI / Mo Cap all of it. Someone asked before how they did all the black goo / mind scenes and I'm so glad they showed a picture of the behind the scenes of it as confirmation that they did do it through practical effects and CGI. There's a quality of doing it in this method that still can't be matched by going all CGI.
------
If there's a season 3, hopefully it finds it's footing and goes back to being more like season 1, although I did like the counter to the counters, just the execution left something to be desired.
-----
Overall do I regret watching season 2, no because it did have enough good and potential to it to make it worth sticking out which is something that's been in short supply with series this year.
How does virtually the same production team as "Cutie Pie" take the quality of production, acting, etc. from that series, toss it in paper shredder, then a blender, then toss it in a dumpster and set it on fire, and then finally nuke it from space just to make sure they've destroyed it all with this series?!
Max and Nat got the short end of the stick with the material in "Cutie Pie" as it, but they made it work with the way they played off of each other and honestly their limited screen time in that series certainly helped cover all of the shortcomings with the material for them. This whole first episode played off as if every character has the mental capacity and communication skills of a child.
The editing, makeup, camera angles, etc. of this whole first episode were just really poorly done and that's not even getting into the whole hey look another men don't communicate anything to each other and why not have yet another series this year that poorly does the whole amnesia thing except this time people will love it because we'll give it a twist thing.
I've seen sequel series have a rough start so hopefully this just ends up being on of those, but this is definitely going to be a check any expectations of this being good at the door series.
The first episode wasn't bad, but um yeah this is after all the company that gave us the amazing "Check Out" episode 0 and then gave us one of the worst BL series ever made, so any expectations of this being decent are starting off in the sub-basement of low.
If for nothing else I do hope this series turns out decent for Max after him being cast in a string of terrible series. He's had several moments where he was able to show off his potential as an actor, despite the horrendous material he had to work with.
When Perth told the blond guy to leave them alone he spoke quite well all of a soudain 😅
LOL yeah there were a couple of times that both of them really slipped up with it. lol
I think the worst part that Chimon screwed up on it was when he was singing Happy Birthday, no one that isn't fluent in English sings that song that clearly, in tune, etc.
Watching Perth and Chimon failing at trying to play characters who are bad at speaking English was absolutely hysterical. lol I'd love to see the outtakes from that because I'm sure there were many cases of the giggles during that filming.
Getting buried alive under a ton of hot coals laying on a bed of nails while having scarabs eating you from the inside out would be less painful than what Yang is putting himself through by helping Phumjai.
Offroad either died every night after filming, could exhaust the energizer bunny, or needs to be put in inpatient treatment for a serious caffeine addiction with how much freaking energy he had in every episode!! lol
Phojai and Munchkin are ridiculously cute together, I haven't seen two characters that deserve their own spin-off series so much in a long time.
The casting director really nailed it this series in a year that has been really hit or miss with some of the castings. The chemistry they all have together is awesome.
Unless they really screw something up bad in the next five episodes I can definitely see this being one of those cute funny highly rewatchable shows that you just keep going back to when you need a good healthy dose of pick me up.
Now 10 episodes filled with nothing but the outtakes and then a season 2 please and thank you. lol
Gu Bu Xia is such an adorable little dweeb in all the right ways and like some others have said, luckily the sister wasn't the slightest bit annoying.
Season 2 could totally be the three of them teaming up to help solve the cases, pass the messages, etc. of the ghost that apparently now all three can hear thanks to Grandpa Gu's "Blessing" apparently. lol
Every episode I keep thinking that I can't wait for Yoh to have his Minato styled "HUH?!" moment when he finally realizes why Mizuki wanted him to move in with him and his reasons behind everything in the first place. The whole I like you but can't let you find out I like you because there's no way you could like me to the realization that he does actually like him as well to the well shit what do I do now dynamic that they have going on is great, now we just need poor Yoh to catch up. lol
