The age thing was a necessary trade off. Once the character is supposed to be young then it becomes a real casting headache since alot of popular young actors and actresses give shallow performances to varying degress.
A young actress that pulled off above her age (to me) was He Lan Dao in A Journey To Love. She ate that role up from start to finish. Wang Xing Yue delivers strong characters as well.

It's actually pretty amazing that she went to his courtyard with zero plans or ideas on what to do or what would happen. She just faced her demons for him with no expectations on a good ending to that confrontation, just so she he wouldn't face all that alone.

Ep 14 started at such a weird scene. I had to go back to 13 to make sure I hadn't missed something.

So in an earlier episode Grandma said LSY was hard to get close to; considering his very extensive secret life, staying hidden in plain sight in their house is a good move. So in the defence of the Luo's, they aren't shunning him but he is avoiding them to keep up his secret agent ways😅

I have nothing against RM. This is the first time I'm seeing her.
Obsessive storylines are hard to pull off. The only time I have seen it done well was in Rebel Princess. Every other series with this storyline just has you rolling your eyes. Not because of the actress or actors but novels are written with impossible to achieve beauty and character standards. Adaptations always suffer hence the need for rewrites to make them logical for an audience that isn't using their imagination to cast and act and clothe and speak for the characters.
No actress can live up to the expectations of a reading audiences' imagination. The things they write in these novels are so ridiculous 😅

I haven't read the novel either. I'm comparing based on comments. I'm intrigued by everything I've heard (read) about the novel and I might read it after the show ends.
The Story of Minglan meets Story of Kunning Palace= sounds fantastic 👌

The Double made their story more palatable by neutering the fl. Instead of her being the best at everything and never losing, they spread her success among her friend group and the ml and let her suffer losses. They still kept the tone of brutality towards females, savage vengeance and hatred to her enemies and a super perfect ideal ml.

With adaptations, as long as they keep the general vibe, themes and major scenes, then its a win for me. This story apparently has a number of obssessed "love interests" and a single fl, thats hard to adapt without being toxic or silly. So putting all the themes of obssession on a single character or spreading the focus of obssession to different female recipients would work.
I feel Jia Xue is going to take the brunt of the obsessive behaviour and maybe (but hopefully not) the chubby sister (Yi Xiu) might also suffer as a focus of obssession to make the story more palatable for a visual audience without losing the theme and tone of the novel

That thing though!!! One character has an awful personality and the other just loves them! No justification for the love or character growth for the awful person. You might think after all the episodes and struggles together they have learnt to be better people but then near end of series breakup throws away whatever character development you were pretending to see.

I'm hoping they throw all that obsessive themes from the novel at Ci Sha. I'm realy looking forward to an unhinged villain from him. I've never really enjoyed him in any of his good guy roles. He looks like he was made to play a villain and I'm here for it

Looking forward to another Neo Huo martial arts drama. It's cool he's taking his career in this direction. I just watched I am Nobody and I loved him in Back from the Brink.
Also excited to see Tian Jia Rui again after My Journey To You.

It's easier to pull off an "everybody is obsessed with the fl" story in written media but when an actress has to live up to those expectations it becomes difficult because we'll judge the plot on how wonderful a real person is to be able to elicit that reaction from multiple people.
Ren Min's star power can not survive under that weight. So they should definitely tone down that theme in the drama.

Personally, there are only two actresses that would float an intense obsessive reverse harem storyline for me: Dilraba (simply gorgeous) and Zhao Lusi (perfectly charming). Of course I would also buy it for Wang Churan but her performances don't really fulfill it for me!

She honestly seems to ignore her other grandchildren but they seem to ignore her similarly, so I can’t really judge her for it except she is the adult!

All the spoilers I'm reading about the novel just sound fascinating. I'm tempted to read it

Everyone knew she was bad and he knew she was bad as well but since she was his "beloved" and he had disappointed her in his home and he was mediocre in his career, he just let her and her child run wild as compensation. He just didn't expect attempted murder and r*pe to be on the table.
His expectations for his son is to prevent him from going as bad as the mother but also to justify his actions in spoiling his concubine. If the son does well, then he and Qiao weren't "complete villians". That way he can raise his head in the household again.

Yep. I really can't stand him as a "hero". I usually skip his scenes in other dramas but I'm relishing this one. I hope there is enough storyline in this character to let him really shine.
