I was thinking about the scope of Duke Su's power and we can never be sure what he can or can not do. How many men can he command, Sometimes he is omnipotent and sometimes he is neutered, we just accept it as the plots says but its never really clear why. They didn't spend enough time thinking about the Duke and gave it to SYR. If any other acted as the Duke, I'm sure it would have fell flat. There were distinct times we felt like the Duke should save the day but he just wasn't there 🤷; when trying to catch Chu Lan and failing 3 times.
As a SYR antifan and A XH fan, I lament this injustice for my Duke Su

I could feel he really like SYR character and Princess Wanning to a lesser extent. They aren't this fleshed out in the novel.
He let SYR die on his own terms and I hate that; I knew during SYR death that the actor's performance of SYR really captivated the production team. But I wish they used all that time on Xiao Heng. His backstory, his grandfather, the Longwu army...were more interesting to me than SYR's anything.

But she was being weirdly BDSM-like flirty with the stretching her hands to be tied every other second and he was eating it up🤭

1. A number of people that JL actually cared about died because of her plan. It would be strange if she would feel bad when the villains kill of their own people, especially because her plan was meant to stop a war from starting. Her plan wasn't to get the Physician killled, PW inexplicably killed her own trusted Physician immediately after pregnancy diagnosis, when she would still need his help for 9 months and delivery.
2. They didn't have proof. General Peng and Longwu army were accused of disobeying military order. He was sent as a messenger so the truth would be known but unless he was able to prove his case he would die. If General Xiao followed along recklessly the rest of Longwu arm would have been implicated and the Emperor would have been left unguarded, so King Cheng would usurp the throne earlier.
3. It was stated to be a scandalous match. Consort Li might have entered the harem at 16 when the last Emperor was already dying and remained untouched. Her family would definitely not lose the opportunity to match her to the young Emperor, when eve Ji Shuran killed Ye Zhen Zhen to enter the Jiang household. Consort Li wasn't a good person in the beginning but I feel she redeemed herself, sadly, with her death.

This would be amazing though. A modern drama this time because I can't take historical life and death stakes anymore from them.

I had prepared myself for the loss, so I was already celebrating Lu Ji's loss as the sacrifice we had to make, when Wen Ji got struck. I didn't expect to lose both of them🥺😢😳

It made their married life scenes more worthwhile

When he showed up on the horse full villian; it was perfect. And I remembered how annoyed I was when in Rebel Princess her childhood sweetheart started a coup, cause it was so ridiculous.
The Double carried this character to that point very naturally and brilliantly 👏 👏 👏

I know I will be adding to my plan to watch list anything Li Mrng and Liang Yong Qi do. They were impressive.
If it ended at 40, it could have sparked an international riot.

I was going to give it a 9 but I'm here crying real tears for my boy. He deserves the 10 for his sacrifice. It wasn't perfect but it got and held my attention completely and that deserves a 10.

I'm happy for Rui and Xiu; I'm happy for Fang fei and Xiao Heng; I'm happy for Consort Li's redemption; I'm happy Jiang Li got to be mourned by her father....
I wish SYR was arrested and prosecuted like the Li's...
I was happy to sacrifice Li Ji for the plot but my Gawd.... 💔💔💔 I'm going to need a moment for Wen Ji. I guess I'm being punished for not caring about Li Ji.
It was a wonderful finale👏👏👏👏

"The character flaw" is that she knew Princess Wanning would kill her own person. But drama JL has been shown time and again to not be as smart as she thinks and usually causes people to die because she tries to get something. It's consistent with her character, she is reckless but she keeps thinking she is only risking herself. If after so many deaths, she has become jaded, it's not a character flaw.
With Jiang Li or more accurately Xue Fang Fei, her revenge plot has been tinged with the saying "If you want revenge, dig two graves".
The Fang fei that went into the grave is not the same as the one that crawled out and is different again from the one playing with the faith of the country for her personal vendetta.
