I really don't get why it is humanising her to people. This is literally the only way to make her feel pain after all the pain and destruction she has sprinkled across the country. She has earned this torture and I wish someone would tell Jiang Li exactly how much this plot is hurting the princess, so she relish it. Did we forget the early episodes when they kept repeating her nightmare in the grave caused JL couldn't mentally leave the grave? All the people in the mines? Xue papa and son torture?
But fake pregnancy is too much🙄

I don't ignore leads cruelty. When its called for I even applaud it. For the most part JL is well aware that eveyone working for the princess is one bad day away from dying and she won't lament the loss, as she should. She didn't look for him because he was already dead the first they heard of his disappearance. The novel JL/XFF would have knowingly chosen this move specifically because it would tear apart the princess and that would involve her killing off her own allies and while drama JL/XFF is nicer, she is no saint and she definitely can't afford to be. Everyday the princess is in play is another day a town could ennd up like Hauxiang. Also palace Physicians are always near death and noone bats an eye, why should Jiang Li?

This is how I see it play out in my imagination:
If I want to exempt the current Emperor from responsibility (and I do because I'm an Emperor stan):
I would surmise following what we know of King Cheng: he instigated confflict with Dai Kingdom as he has been doing in the north. He either suggested directly or manipulated to let a marriage alliance settle it. A negative marriage alliance like what Wanning suffered implies they were the inferior end. Wanning gets image of country saviour and her brother probably came to rescue her and killed the Dai Emperor- all the glory of this endeavour would go the brother and sister pair and the Emperor would look somewhat bad.
Wanning would obviously hold a vendetta against the kingdom that couldn't protect her and the Emperor that allowed her to be held hostage.

She's not playing a petty trick. She's fighting for their lives. If the princess doesn't unravel the whole empire will soon becomes hers and King Cheng's. The best they could do is try to protect whoever did her check up but the man was taken immediately after; the blame is ENTIRELY on the princess. She killed her loyal doctor and his family; considering she just got pregnant it is more likely for a normal person to keep their loyal Physician to monitor the pregnancy till birth. But the Princess is EVIL, not Jiang Li.
Jiang Li has a false identy and a whole village of peole are alive to reveal this truth; her loyal Physician diagnosed her pregnacy and she killed him and his family immediately. The fault is not Jiang Li, at most she gave the princess too much credit and believed they could pick up the Physician later.

I'm rewatching from Ep. 1

The last time I enjoyed a villain being a villain this much was Princess Weilong but the villain of that show was the only thing I liked.
The Double, I'm loving everything in this show but Shen Yu Rong👏👏👏👏👏- Majestic villianry. The still of him standing over a fallen Princess Wanning 🤌 perfection.
You can watch this man as a cautionary tale but you can't defend against him if he came for you. How could Fang fei have seen the signs before the shovel to her head? How could Princess Wanning, who thought she had him on a string directing his actions, see this coming? The only possible sign is that his mother and sister are a little off but that's the only chance you get and you are trapped.

In the novel, the duke was never ill but he was nursing his father who was in a coma for a long time due to poisoned arrows from an ambush by his close from. He tried to heal him with the help of Jiuyue but he later died.
In the novel, no one is against Fang fei and Yu Rong's marriage. Their origins were both humble and what they had being well matched young talents. They went to th capital with her father's blessings and upon becoming top scorer, his family turned on her believing they could do better.

It wasn't "perfect" because I noticed the "acting" but loved the scene. To try to emote even in real life facing SYR dead eyes and stoned faced coldness!!! Liang Yong Qi is an impressive SYR and every scene he shares with another actor is potent. He sends these vibes that the other actor has to react to and Li Meng's Princess Wanning was cracking under his lifeless gaze. I loved the scene.

He has been collecting accolades since childhood and most beloved person of the most talented woman was one of them. Who gave her the right to give that love to someone else.

Jiang Li inadvertently found the cruelest punishment for Princess Wanning. It's honestly the torture she deserves but I doubt JL would have been able to choose it if she really knew what it meant
