What ever happens with this show I think the actor playing SYR is one to watch. SYR is not as featured in the novel, so it might be the actor's performance that forced the production team to expand his story. Hate the character but I'm having fun hating him

There is a marrying off plot in the novel but its for JL, not the duke and then Duke got a decree to marry her so it was dead on arrival. One thing I've noticed with "The Double" is they try to keep plot elements of "Marriage of the Di Daughter" even if they mix it up to new characters or merge plots. So I'm interested to see how they handle the Marriage plot.

I never felt any remorse or empathy for Jiang Yuanbai but you raised a good point; he always tried to bodily protect her. My previous assessment of him was "you can't wake a person that is pretending to be asleep" and I still think that's true but now I will say, after losing his first wife and marrying a new wife according to his taste, he couldn't bear to see any faults or cracks. To admit one sin is to admit all of them, so he blinded his eyes at home. Given a less murderous wife, he wouldn't have abandoned his daughters and concubine but to keep the waters still, he needed to send off anyone or thing that rocked the boat.
