Every drama have a biatch character, without it it would be very boring drama.
Actually, there are quite a few dramas that can manage without and still be interesting. There are plenty of other ways to "create adversities". This trope is definitely overused and when the manipulative side-character starts getting more screentime than the FL it becomes simply annoying.
The first two episodes of this were actually pretty entertaining... I like that they didn't exaggerate the martial arts skills like in TBOY, but kept it natural instead.
He like her but his duty for his country is priority for him. I think both going to die in the battlefield.
Yep, facing each other on the battlefield and dying together would make a worthy ending for them. I think there is a scene in the OST where Mo Bei leads an army...
Why did Han Ye lie to his father saying Anle saved him?! Was he backtracking somehow in order to clear the path…
Yeah, I definitely saw the "oh shit!" expression on his face when the emperor told him that he approved of fake CZY as the crown princess. As for his motivation for lying to the emperor, I think the reasons listed by user sakie make sense...
I only read a few small parts in the novel and wish I didnβt because it was enough for me to be underwhelmed…
I usually like to read the novels behind the dramas beforehand. This time I didn't (because already reading too much other stuff). I am thanking the heavens that I didn't because I get so cross when they mangle the novels. Reading it after the drama is finished can now be considered a palate cleanser πππ
The the Di family was accused of rebellion and associating with the enemy because Anle's father moved the Di army…
I don't know what was her reason for doing this. I don't think that jealousy because her husband had the hots for one of the Di women is a good enough reason. My theory is that she was led to believe that the Di family was a threat to her son, the emperor. Maybe by red-umbrella-man...

I think that's a standard punishment for treason. The judgement for this would have come from the emperor, not the empress dowager. Anle's family gave up the crown initially, but the way her father was set up made it look like he wanted to start a rebellion to reverse that decision.
I get why for An Le it's hard to extract revenge from Han Ye, He was supposed to be her tool but he is a kind-hearted…
The Empress Dowager is everywhere? I'm looking forward to her beatification! Does she also get to take a bath? I'm starting to think that all the people who I don't see bathing must be a little bit dirty... π
Well, she has been robbed. This is based on a female-centric novel that has her in almost every scene. In the…
No, that's not what I meant with female-centric. She isn't the physically or intellectually dominating protagonist - both guys are much stronger than her... but she is the central figure and the novel is told from her perspective. We get to know her thoughts and feelings, not those of the guys. I can understand that the author got a lot of backlash over the way the story is going, nobody likes a bait-and-switch π If she is part of the production team, hopefully her ideas will carry some weight to keep the overall tone and the characters true to the novel.
Could it be that the low budget makes them try harder to make good stories? These mini drama lately are much more…
I think it's because the writers/directors have more creative freedom. There aren't so many vested interests fighting to put "their star" in the best possible light and censorship seems also to be a lot more relaxed.
What is it that Anning know about the tragedy 10 years ago? Can someone give spoilers pls?
The the Di family was accused of rebellion and associating with the enemy because Anle's father moved the Di army without imperial order. Anning saw her grandmother give the instruction to send a secret letter (imitating the emperor's handwriting) to the head of Di army to order him to make this move. So in other words he was set up to make a mistake that would get him killed.
I'm beginning to suspect if a lot of scenes were cut to pass Chinese censorship. This is probably the best explanation…
Yes, there is a tendency to white-wash the leads to suit public tastes/censorship, but it would be a bit too easy to use censorship as an excuse for the bad writing/editing. In my opinion they tried to cater to a younger audience who might get bored by all the palace politics and scheming. They slowed and dumbed everything down so that even the people watching this in FF-mode won't get lost.
