From what I can gather from the novel it is about martial arts sects being involves in court politics. Lot’s of conspiracies, etc.
The original novel is told from the FL’s perspective. So this is yet another case of manipulating the script to turn the ML into the protagonist.

It seems that all the good ones are too short (based on the novel, Royal Rumours could easily have had 40 eps.) and the bad ones are too long.

They seem, however, to have a penchant for open endings… Fingers crossed this has a proper ending.

Haha, that’s what I thought earlier this year, but then some of them got delayed and others flopped, so instead I’m in a bit of a draught now…
I’m currently watching some older stuff and I cannot help but thinking they don’t make them like that anymore. So many recent dramas had really bad writing/acting.
So high hopes for this one!!

Any ending that requires additional explaining (from the cast, director or whoever) or an additional “special” episode to tie up the loose ends fits my definition of a sh*t ending.
If the director/scriptwriters had done a decent job in the first place, none of this would be necessary.

This is absolutely nothing like BFTB. For one BFTB is a xianxia with heavy focus on romance and this drama is obviously more about cultivation. Also, and for me that is the most important difference, it has none of the silly, cringe-worthy attempts at humour of BFTB. You will find betrayal and loss of power in so many stories that it really cannot be a criteria for calling this a remake. Otherwise, BFTB could be considered a remake of King Lear…

It isn’t of the highest quality, but I find it acceptable. In the two episodes that I’ve seen so far they managed to avoid over the top effects with the tacky colours that you find in some xianxia.

Watched two episodes of this and find it quite watchable. Yes, the CGI could have been better, but at least they didn’t use any tacky colours. The story is interesting enough to continue and the subtitles are actually quite ok. The story progresses at a decent pace and episodes aren’t very long (+/- 30 min).

If you’re expecting any decent martial arts, then I’m afraid that you will be disappointed.
This is a typical cultivation-style drama, so all they ever do is wave their hands in the air and look constipated. All the rest is CGI.

I think it’s the acting. The actress left the same impression on me in the previous two dramas that I saw with her as the FL.
You call it introvert, to me it feels somehow lifeless and depressed, it’s really hard to describe. I usually like characters that are more reserved, but with most other actors/actresses these characters don’t feel so lifeless.

Yes, subs are a must for me, too and it is frustrating that some dramas that look quite good never get any.
If I remember correctly, the trailer had subs, so maybe it will be ok.

I see… Personally, I’d rather watch a good drama with unknown leads who can act, than some overrated production full of plot-holes with a few famous pretty boys.
For these dramas it sometimes feels like they’re not even making an effort because the fan-girls of those pretty boys will watch any ol’sh*t and rave about the glorious acting even if nobody else can see it.
